  1. Agreed. I had nothing but problems with my former 86 IROC that my mom wrecked. The 88 IROC that i have now has very little problems but still doesnt run as reliably as my suby...which is just a weber carb. Im a carb man unfortunatly just cause they are simplier and there is less to go wrong but im sure if i drove a new fuel injected car i would change my mind.
  2. HAHAHAHAHAHA awesome. I seriously am 5 at heart when it comes to fart jokes.
  3. How much fast food do you eat :Flame:Sorry couldnt resist. But seriously mice in the air ducts is a good suggestion. I think i had mice in my old subaru and it would smell something fierce first thing in the morning. That is until i turned the fan on high and blew their nest out..in my face.
  4. Their second attempt (cross-fire injection) sucked as well. They pretty much started to get the hang of fuel injection once Tuned port injection came out but there was still loads of room for improvement. End hijack
  5. Oh did i missinterepret? I thought u meant that the 68 and 69 chargers were undesirable. Did u mean the 68-69 ramblers though? As far as the 66 goes its not my favorite designed muscle car but it certainly is different. I dont remember ever seeing one (let alone two) in person till i saw these ones. Ive been following the prices on Ebay and they seem to be going for more in worse condition than this one is in. Ill look into it further when i get home.
  6. Where have u been lol. Go on ebay and try to find a 68-70 charger for under 5 grand. And even if you find one for under its a basket case. Their prices are going through the roof for good examples. Even the 66-67 style is starting to catch a following. Ive been watching the prices of those rise as well. Mopars are hot right now.
  7. OMG i love your dads bug. Its gorgeous. That looks nice enough to go in VWtrends magazine. I used to be a big bug fan but never owned one.
  8. hahahaha to the above post My car would leak from the rear main seal..and when i say leak i mean..drip, drip drip at every stoplight so that i would have a cloud of blue smoke billowing out from under my car cause it was burning off on the exhaust. Not fun. Needless to say i got the rear main fixed, resealed the valve covers, and oil pump, and oil pan. No more leaks going on three years.
  9. Funny thing is i did the same thing. The only thing i kept off my old 86 hatch was the honeycomb grill and that grill is now on my 83. I like the look of it better than the original.
  10. WoW gorgeous. Good luck with it. You will find this community will be able to help you with just about anything. And BTW the VW camper is so nice. When i was little my neighbors in Acton MA used to have one just like that in that same pea green 70s color.
  11. Interesting. Yea I dont want to replace it just yet. Its only a few years old so it should still be fine. And its only right in the morning when it has sat over night that it does this. Otherwise it behaves normally.
  12. Ok well the throttle cable is fairly new..as in only a year or two old. I needed to replace it when i went from the carter-weber to hitachi. I dont remember if i got a factory cable though. That might be my problem. As far as the distributor goes it didnt do it this morning on me. Weird. Im going to line up another 2wd nippo-denso distributor.
  13. Haha hell of a lot sportier than a Loyale or GL. Those cars could only dream of 130 horse stock.
  14. Well my buddy backed out of the equation so it looks like either i dont bother at all or i go back and check out the 66 really carefully and see if its something i should consider for myself. Ill just not bother with the 67 since i think my parents would murder me and do a good job of hiding the body if i brought home two non-op vehicles.
  15. Cool thanks Jon. Ill go out and get some on friday and see how that goes. Its really annoying having to pull my accelerator pedal up with my foot so my car doesnt stay reved at stoplights.
  16. Im sure that your problem lies in your syncros. When its cold out they are a bit slower than normal. Its just that the syncros cant line up the gears in time so u get a little bit of grind when u downshift. Does this happen only when the car is still cold? I will be willing to bet the "grinding" goes away once the car is fully warmed up. If you dont like the grinding while downshifting i would double clutch it when its really cold out ( ie. going from 4th to neutral...letting the clutch out in neutral...then pushing the clutch again and shoving it into 3rd). You might want to also think about changing your tranny fluid. Not sure if an outback takes auto tranny fluid or manual tranny fluid in their manual trannys.
  17. I shift pretty low in the mornings when the car is cold. Usually around 2,500-3000 thousand and then it jumps higher cause the cable is getting hung up. The alternator is an XT6 that seems to be doing fine as far as the volt gauge is showing but maybe it is on its way out. Hope not though.
  18. Hey now that its been 20 degrees outside when i first start my car from sitting overnight the tach jumps around but the engine doesnt. Then once the car has run for a minute or so it stops and acts normal. Is this early signs of distributor failure? I just put this distributor in not too long ago and i checked it for shaft play and it didnt have any more than my other one had. Only reason i swapped it in was cause the old one had a broken vacuum advance. Also anyone got any tips for how to de-ice a throttle cable or keep it from freezing up early in the morning? Its really annoying when your car revs to 3 grand when you push in the clutch.
  19. Ive been told by a buddy of mine that used to work on landrovers to never buy one. They have ungodly electrical problems apparently.
  20. You've never seen this? http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/brats/cbrat/cbrat.html
  21. Hey Nipper i dont remember if you answered this or not when we were all at Connies BBQ but is that the original color of that outback? Ive never seen another one in that color blue. Its gorgeous. Was it just limited to the...um limiteds?
  22. I have always been more of an EA81 fan than an EA82 fan but all i can say is wow. That things is gorgeous. I would buy it in a heartbeat..do a 5 speed swap on it and be done.
  23. Here is a link of how to adjust your carbs fuel/air at idle. This may help you out some but there might be more going on than just this being out of wack. http://redlineweber.com/html/Tech/carburetor_set_up_and_lean_best_.htm If that doesnt solve it check for vacuum leaks around the base of the carb and intake manifold. They will surely kill your performance. Also do you kno if that carb is jetted for a subaru or not? If not you gotta rejet it so that it will run correctly on your engine. In fact this is the question you must kno first. If you got any more problems you can ask me. Ive been fine tuning mine for a bit now and think i finally have it good. Good luck.
  24. When u say missing, do u mean that when you give it some gas it hessitates and idles rough? How does it idle without u giving it gas? If it idles fine and only hessitates and misses when u give it gas i would be pointed in the direction of a few things. the carb is a possiblility but im willing to rule it out if you can look down it and see fuel getting to the motor without a problem. If the carb wasnt giving you problems before i dont see why it would now. I would replace the fuel filters if you have never done that before as they are cheap and may help more than you think. I would also look into the vacuum advance. My car was missing like mad and bucking at under 2500 rpms because my vacuum advance was broken. You can check this by unplugging the vacuum line from the side of the distributor with the cap off. Put another piece of hose on the distributor and suck with your mouth. If you can see the advance arm inside the distributor move then your fine. If not u need another vacuum advance..or as i did just dump another distributor in if you have one handy. If the fuel filters and the distributor check out then i would start to suspect carb problems. Maybe with the exhaust that was backfeeding through the ASV's u got some gunk built up in a small orifice that u cant see.
  25. Does that mean im one of the few on this board left that actually daily drives a car thats 25 years old? Its reliable and gets good gas milage. Of course now that i said that its going to break down on me
