  1. I would think you would be getting better than 30mpg. My EA81 gets about that. It got that with a hitachi and now with a weber and your car has a smaller engine and lighter body.
  2. Sounds like the distributor could be the culprit. Easy way to check is to pull the cap off and see if you can move the rotor from side to side. There should be some up and down and a very little to no side to side. If you can wiggle the rotor from side to side a good amount the distributor is done. Also check your vacuum advance. Pop the hose off that goes to the vacuum advance diapram. Put a long hose on and suck on the end of it. With the cap off you should be able to see the diapram advancing the timing. If its not moving (like what happened on my car)..time for either a new vacuum advance or a jy distributor.
  3. what i meant to say is it sounds like the noise is coming from the passenger side but i would be very pissed if i went through the trouble of changing it out only to find it was the drivers side.
  4. Greeeeeaaatt. I probably should have just had brian ship me both of his GCK axles. I only got one them.
  5. The car barely has 70,000 miles on it so these are the original axles. Both sides have intact boots so it is hard for me to tell. When the car is cold and i go i hear the passenger side axle clicking/clunking really bad. Once the car is warm it generally doesnt do it but its been getting progressively worse as time goes on. I have a replacement axle sitting in my trunk waiting to go in and i think this weekend is the time to do it. Id rather not deal with this problem all winter.
  6. Is there a technique for figuring out which axle is shot on a 2wd EA81? I am almost positive the noise i am hearing is coming from the passenger side axle and that would make sense to me since thats the axle that gets the most stress right? Since its an open diff the power flows to that axle more than the drivers side axle.
  7. I dont think that body style taurus was offered with the V8 option. I could be wrong but im pretty sure it was the body style right after that one when Ford started putting the V8 in the SHO.
  8. Alloys? I dont need any but if its got em u might want to grab them for fell board members.
  9. Yea it does have a filter..at least thats what they call it. Its just a screen that u replace periodically. Not much good if you ask me. I replaced mine when i had a 3AT and what do u kno it still shifted like poo. Low miles on it too.
  10. When doing the weber swap u need to fill that hole otherwise coolant will soak that gasket. The weber does not require coolant to that area. All JB welding will do is keep your gaskets dry. It will not block flow. I have had mine JB welded for months now with no problems. Just a word of advice when doing it..do it in stages. dont try to fill that hole all at once or the JB weld may not cure correctly. It took me two or three times to finally fill the hole and then i let it sit for 24 hours before i sanded it flush with the top of the manifold.
  11. There were two types of EA81 alts. The earlier used external regulators while the later used internal regulators. The internal regulatored ones for EA81s were the same for the EA82s. No difference in output or body size. But as GD said...knowing the vintage of everything here i would say that that is an EA81 for sure..whether or not its external or internally regulated..thats the question.
  12. Single range means you do not have hi and low. Hi and low range 4 wheel drive is dual range. The 3AT is not known for reliablity or drivablity for that matter. You would be much better off with a 4 or 5 speed dual range. I went from the 3AT to 5 speed in my 2wd sedan and couldnt believe how much quicker it felt with just a tranny swap.
  13. If your going stock sized exhaust you want 1.75 inlet and outlet. The muffler body should be about 13 inches long if i remember right. And the inlet should be offcenter with a centered outlet.
  14. Dynomax super turbo muffler. Thats what i have on my sedan. Nice and quiet but with a little growl when you get on it. Flows very nice. As for more power you already got the SPFI swap. How is the rest of your exhaust? Do you need to do emissions? If not...dump the catalitic converter and straight pipe it or if you dont like that idea just get a generic high flow cat.
  15. Head gaskets really arnt a problem with the EA81s. Thats mainly an EA82 problem. Do what you said and then throw some new fuel filters in it. Keep good oil in it. Give it a tuneup and you should be set for another 70 thousand miles or more.
  16. Gauge pod is DL ea81s(and ea71s from that time too) only. The radiator you show is a EA81 radiator. The alt is an EA81/82 alt. Either or. Same thing. Looks like quit the stash of NOS parts there. Depending on how much you want for one of those radiators i might be interested. Thanks.
  17. When you get a chance could u post some pics of the 84 Dimond edition. I love those things. Pretty rare too.
  18. HAHA luckely i have not gotten the just peed myself look..yet. Whenever i have a drink i end up sandwiching it between the E brake and the passenger seat. Then again my car is 5 speed front wheel drive. I cant remember if that would work for a 4wd car.
  19. Doesnt look like rust is affecting them though.
  20. Is that a manual SHO taurus? Even if its not that is one cool car. If i were to ever own a taurus that would be the one. Super sleeper award. And as for me...i owned an 86 IROC since senior year of highschool. Basically fully restored. My mom crashed/totaled it at the beginning of this past summer. Now i have an 88 Iroc camaro to replace it. I love the irocs. Look better than the 4th gens IMO.
