  1. u mean the idle screw. Thats something you can do by ear and can mess with. I had to hike the idle up on my hitachi a bit. If its too low the car will idle like a tractor.
  2. um i dont even have the capicitor hooked up . Damn. My capacitor doesnt have wires coming out of both ends. Anyone have a capacitor they can send me with both wires on it? I only have a wire on one side of it.
  3. Well when i did all this i took the shortcut since my shop told me that the original coil was still ok. I didnt even mess with the coil i just dropped in the distributor and went. Well last night the coil went out on me. Luckily i had thought ahead and had the spare that subarujunkie had sent with the distributor. Bolted that in and off i went. Anyone got any ideas as to why the old one went out? Maybe it was just time and i had stressed it from hooking it up wrong?
  4. drain it all out. Replace the fuel filter(s). Give it a full tune-up..ie plugs, wires, rotor, cap. You may or may not need to take the carb apart and rebuild it.
  5. Haha i kno Paul i was thinking the same. I remember you saying you thought my exhaust was a little loud well i think you were the first one to hear the beginning of a nasty leak. All fixed now.
  6. just a thought but have u checked the fuel filter(s). If they are getting clogged that could be part of it.
  7. Both of those hoses are coolant hoses. The one that used to go to the base of the carb u need to eliminate cause the weber does not use it. It sounds like you already took care of preping the manifold now u just need to get rid of the line. Simply pull that cylinder like thing off the steel line and put a plug on it. The other one should just plug onto your EA82 manifold. If not i dont see harm in eliminating it as well. Also while your in there you might want to find out why you have all that oil on the top of the engine. Chances are the oil fill tube is leaking. If that doesnt make sense shoot me a PM or something and I'll see if i can explain it better.
  8. Brats are going up in value these days. If its in good shape with very little rust (im sure there is some) then its worth anywhere from 1500-4000. Ive seen them go on ebay in close to mint condition for more. I would just ask him what he is looking for before giving him an offer.
  9. i kept the front one. Its in my basement back at home. The rear one was attached to the pipe and i didnt feel like carting that one home so i just left it.
  10. Well the guy that i had waited for to put a straight pipe in didnt come back from vacation when he said he would. So i gave up and brought it over to they boys at another local place i know. The manager just happened to not be there and the exhaust expert just happened to be a performance buff so he understood why i wanted to dump the cats. I now have a straight pipe from the engine back to my dynomax muffler. It sounds awesome now. Best part...he only wanted 50 bucks for his troubles. He welded it instead of clamping it as well. Cheap and great quality. Cant beat it.
  11. you can make bigger speakers fit where the stock ones are in the dash. I did with my suby. I have infinity kappa 4x6's in the dash. Passenger side is bolt in drivers side you have to get creative. If you want pictures you can go here to see it installed. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/724118/3
  12. and if it is a heat sheild pop it off with a screwdriver and just go without it. Just dont park over grass
  13. Thanks Loyale. It doesnt run so bad that i dont drive it..on the contrary it runs better than most cars ive owned but just not as smooth as i would like..yet. I will try cleaning the carb again.
  14. carter-weber does have a different intake than hitachi..i kno cause i swapped from carter-weber to hitachi then to just plain weber . Now since its a feedback carb does that mean you have an O2 sensor on that exhaust? If so that could be screwing up your emissions test along with the unhooked vacuum lines and "turtle" thingy. I assume that turtle thingy is the silencer for the ASV valves. I have two good ones that i could sell you dirt cheap if you need new turtles (silencers).
  15. Yea that was the first thing that i checked for. I didnt find any and the car runs great except for that weak spot at light throttle. It doesnt hessitate off of idle like a vacuum leak would cause. It hessitates up higher around 2000rpms.
  16. Well the return line was not my problem. I tried it without it and it still sputtered and ran rough off of idle. I think my carburator is just not built correctly. Im thinking either the accelerator pump or the jets.
  17. I just had another thought as to the solution to the problem. When i installed the weber i switched the fuel line fitting from the hitachi (the one with the fuel line as well as a fuel return) to the weber. Im wondering could that return line be causing the problem since the weber did not have one to begin with? Could it be that the carb is getting too little pressure cause the pressure that it is getting is being "bled" off to the fuel return?
  18. hahaha exactly..officer i swear it was like that when i got it..i didnt think they had catilitic converters in 83
  19. That sucks. Well at least it was something simple like a throttle cable. The only times my subaru has left me stranded is when ive been tinkering :-\ Ive learned to not work on it too much..hasnt broken down on me since carlisle ..knock on wood.
  20. should open it up some more when i dump them both!! Its 25 years old and therefore doesnt need to be tested in connecticut. I already found a local shop that will do it under the table..straight pipe all the way out to my muffler without catalitic converters. Even though it doesnt need to be tested its still illegal to tamper with the catalitics..oh well.
  21. haha yea since my car was a carter-weber originally it was spec'd out with the california emissions package..which included two catalitic converters back to back. Good way to rob a lot of power if you ask me.
  22. It started as a little exhaust burble that made the car sound mean so i didnt mind it. Now its turned to a full fledged howl when Im doing nothing but driving around town. I mean this thing is as loud as my IROC (edlebrock headers to 3 inch exhaust). It rotted out right where the transmission exhaust mount attaches to the exhaust. I have two quarter sized holes that are growing by the day. Hopefully on monday i will be getting a whole new exhaust (minus the two cats). Ill keep everyone posted. I already have a new dynomax muffler so i plan on just replacing everything between the muffler and the Y pipe. Im figuring I'll just leave it 1 7/8".
  23. A fuse will blow if there is a short in the circuit somewhere. Your thermoswitch is fine. What i would do is start tracing the wire from the thermoswitch and the fan and see if any of it is frayed or touching metal (ie the car body) where it is not supposed to be touching.
