  1. hey which mark do i mark for the timing gun. There are three 10, 0 and 8. I kno that the timing is supposed to be at 8 degrees but there is not a definite line under the 8. 8 is kinda between two lines. The 0 has a very def mark though. So...what do i do. help quick would be great cause im in the mist of it right now.
  2. I thought for sure someone on here said that sedans with 4wd could only be had with single range autos. Maybe the ones you saw were converted?
  3. I wouldnt bother with the head gaskets if i were you. Its the EA82s that have the head gasket problems. EA81s are just known for leaking oil from everything. Heres what i would do to it while its out Rear main valve cover gaskets oil pan gasket oil pump seal/ maybe new oil pump water pump if it needs it
  4. Well i drove it home and it made it home without a problem. Well unless u count the fact that it was a bit out of time..i heard it missing when i gave it light gas and it bucked a good amount as well. Ill have to advance the timing a bit since it felt good at heavier gas. Too bad for me though as i lost/misplaced my subaru 8/10 mm wrench. I hope it turns up otherwise ill be on the lookout for a replacement. that thing comes in handy a lot on this car.
  5. wow interesting..that would explain why my stereo is so/ has always been so fuzzy..i never had that thing connected. Ok thanks for the help. Ill go pick up my car tonight with relative confidence that its all hooked up correctly.
  6. So i should be safe just running it the way it is? I just dont want to take a chance on ruining my new (old) distributor. Also do u kno what the purpose of it was?
  7. I agree removing the hard lines from the intake would make it look nicer but i was lazy when i did my weber swap. The only thing i cant understand is why everyone does away with the EGR valve? Doesnt it do way more good than harm with it lowering the cylinder tempertures? I left mine on since it was still in good working order.
  8. Well the boss gave me that day off so im coming !! Hope my car is running by that point though i dont see why it wouldnt be. I cant figure out how to hook up the coil now. I have the distributor in and its about where it was at before so the timing shouldnt be too far off.
  9. Ok so i got the new distributor in (thanks brian) and hooked up the coil and all but where does the little cylinder thing that is grounded to the top bolt of the coil bracket get hooked up to? The mechanic just left it unhooked and im thinking thats a no no. I believe its a capicitor or diode? I only had one side of it hooked up before cause the other side of it had been missing since i owned the car. Any thoughts on this? I really need my car back asap.
  10. or worse....a Hyundai..lol (no offense to anyone who owns one)
  11. Im 21 and proud of it Now i get to do what ive been doing all legal like lol.
  12. How is it that that car is that rusted out and the front bumper is that perfect ?
  13. If thats the case then i wouldnt worry about it and i would just drive it the way it is until you swap in a manual. As someone else said its probably an adjustment but if your not keeping it then why bother fiddling around with it.
  14. The fix..4 or 5 speed swape Trust me if you've never had an auto EA81 u will hate it compared to your manuals.
  15. There is a reason for that. They didnt come in manual. I never understood that. To get a 4wd sedan it had to be an auto. The same goes for 4wd coupes (not sure but pretty sure that only turbo coupes came 4wd).
  16. maybe some junk stuck in one of the stud holes making it impossible to tighten down the adaptor?
  17. u might still have a vacuum leak. The base gasket shouldnt have any play to it when you tighten it down (in other words it should seat firm all around). Did you check to see that both surfaces are flat?
  18. Hey thanks for the love connie. I gotta load up the pics i took of both of them side by side. Probably wont get to them for awhile though.
  19. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/724118 This is my 83 sedan. They are nice cars. Nothing really all that different from other EA81s
  20. ++1 bad idea on the accel. I had one crap out on me. Never doing anything but a stock coil now. Plus there is no benifit to it.
  21. Which part is the pickup? Thats not the term that my shop used to describe the part so im not sure what to be looking for. As for new coils..try 100 bucks from subaru..um yea not doing that. Im going used.
  22. Probably something else...first off if its idling crappy just after you did the plugs i would make sure that all the plug wires are tight where they are supposed to be. In the past ive made the mistake of not pushing the coil wire all the way in till it clicked. Also check around for a vacuum line that got unplugged in the mist of doing the plugs and wires. Vacuum leaks can cause the symptoms you describe.
  23. Update on the situation...i had gotten so frustrated to begin with i had a my shop look at it since i dont have too much free time to mess around with it. Im a bit embarassed to admit this but in my hast of swapping coils i hooked up the original one incorrectly. I must have just put one wire where it wasnt meant to be. Anyhow that is the reason why it fried out..and took my distributor with it. Now i need an EA81 coil and a nippo denso distributor for an sedan Fwd. GRRRREEAAAT. Luckily they are good guys down at my shop and kno that i dont have too much cash so they just diagnosed it for me and put all wires where they should be but didnt bother replacing the distributor or the coil.
  24. I wasnt before but i am now :slobber: :slobber:
  25. well as of now i still think its the coil cause when im cranking the tach does not move. If you didnt catch it..this all happened again with the original coil. Could the ignitor also cause this same thing to happen? If so..how do i go about testing to see if the ignitor is bad? If it is bad do i need a new (or old) distributor?
