  1. too bad its not roling on a full set of those chrome 8 spoke wheels. But im sure for 50 bucks it doesnt matter. Looks very nice.
  2. So i didnt realize that simply taking the coolant line that runs to the base of the carb wouldnt eliminate the coolant running there. Instead it gave the coolant an express way to my garage floor when i started it. It did run nice for the few seconds it was alive. So the carb came off and out came some good old JB weld. I just finished up the first coat of it about 15 minutes ago and am going to do a second coat in a few hours and maybe even a third till its up to the top then ill let it set up over night and file it down tomrrow morning. My gaskets im hoping are still good. They got ever so slightly wet but not terrible. Most of the coolant went to the ground. Anyways enough of my rant.
  3. Yea i have a set i got for christmas and still have yet to use them. That would be my suggestion as well.
  4. I use the tire blackener spray. It says for any plastic or rubber parts and it really blackens up my bumpers on my suby.
  5. Also while your in there replacing the belts you should probably reseal or replace your oil pump. If its original with 250k on it then def replace it.
  6. I have one..its a rue builders rebuilt but i think it needs a going through again..it hasnt been running great. I think something is just clogged. Its only got about 10,000 miles on it since the rebuild. I bought it for 50 would like to get 30 + shipping. I realize you probably want one for free so if no one else steps up then i guess you could consider me a last resort. Oh yea it wont be availible till i take it off my car (sometime next week).
  7. These engines are notorious for leaking obscene amounts of oil from everywhere. The EA82 are at youngest 14 years old, at oldest 22 years old. Seals dry out. I was more curious how you were getting oil in your intake rather than if your motor was coated in the stuff or not.
  8. Where is the oil coming from? Just cleaning it isnt going to get rid of your problem if you didnt stop the source. Look around your intake and find out where the oil is coming in from. Chances are its a clogged PCV system.
  9. First weekend is tight for me but second weekend i should be around on a saturday or sunday (at least one of the two) as long as something doesnt come up. I could volunteer my services
  10. Oh no sweat..i didnt mean to sound like an rump roast. Sorry if it came out that way.
  11. The only thing i would worry about is Rockys plastic bumpers. If there is no flex additive in the paint then it will chip off in a hurry. Other than that minor detail its looking awesome..and yes clear coat that bad boy and then buff away .
  12. Ummmm why does it not have an EGR? The purpose of the EGR is to lower temperatures in the combustion chamber so the engine combusts at the right temp. If you removed or someone removed the EGR that could be your problem right there. It will detonate like crazy i would think..or i could be completely out of my element since i dont know as much about the newer gen subys.
  13. Im assuming this is an EA81 brat? It has an internal voltage regulator if its after 82. 82 and before were external regulators. If you think its your alt again i would check all the wiring to make sure its still good..as well as check the battery. If your battery is on the way out it could very well take the alternator with it.
  14. WOW..thats amazing..to think your going to be breaking in a 43ish year old engine for the first time .
  15. For me it wasnt too bad. Everything from the JY (tranny, pedals, clutch cable etc..) cost about 125 dollars. The new clutch kit cost 140 from subaru. A flywheel resurfacing cost 75. So all in all i ended up spending 340 bucks. Sure i could have skimped here and there but i figured while i was in there i might as well go all out. No sense in putting a new (old) tranny in with a clutch that was on its way out.
  16. Heres a write up I did when i converted from 3AT to 5 speed in my EA81. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=69534 Most aspects are the same for you but some are slightly different. If i recall correctly you will not need to swap radius rod plates like i did (plates that allow the tranny crossmember to bolt to the bottom of the car). Not sure how exactly the wiring will work on an EA82 as to whether or not what i have in my writeup is the same. I really dont see why it wouldnt be but someone else will chim in on that. Hope this gives you an idea of what your facing. It really wasnt all that bad and its makes a HUGE difference in performance. I went from about 25 mpg on the highway to just above 30. Good luck.
  17. woohooo Jon and a Brat..sweet. I really cant wait for this..im practially thinking of it every day now that its getting closer And matt ill throw a few bucks your way for paying for those last spots. Thanks for securing us all a tent
  18. I run the toyo spectrums on my subaru and love them. They are only about 79 dollars a piece and are good tires (rated for 70,000 miles). Ive never had a problem in the rain or the snow. Good luck.
  19. It would be cool looking sure but tons of fabrication work to make it work. Also if you dont do it right you might end up with water in your car. I would vote nay and put your money into a weber or SPFI swap. Youll be happier that way.
  20. Do you guys think i could get away with unbolting one bolt on my intake manifold to take off the air cleaner mount and then bolting it back down without disturbing the gasket? There is also an emissions things that im going to want to do the same thing to. I guess my question is can i get away with unbolting one bolt per side without affecting my intake gasket seal?
  21. So i would be better off using shelac than permatex high temp black?
  22. If your going to do a motor swap why not get an EJ22? They are far more reliable as people on here will tell you all the time. The EA82T was a fine motor for its time but they blow headgaskets and anytime you start modding them your asking for trouble. There are a few people on here running modded EA82T motors but most will tell you its not worth the effort or the money to get one. I kno someone actually blew a baseball sized hole in an EA82T on this board by running too much boost if i recall correctly.
