Mine was a feedback carb car so i have the two cats unfortunalty. Once it doesnt need to pass emissions anymore ill rip them both out and put a straight through exhaust on it.
-
Yea my car has two cats as well. The cat that i thought was shot was still good however. I found my rattle. It ended up being the half a$$ weld job on the exhaust mount that goes from the tranny to the exhaust. It had broken and was rattling against my tranny. Oh well...looks as if my car still has carb problems...can anyone say WEBER!!!!

so i got my car towed tonight

Oh ok thanks Will keep everyone posted on its progress -
Yea i dont think these subaru pedals were meant for big shoes. I have big feet and have gotten in the habit of tilting the heal of my left foot out a bit so i can put the clutch in all the way without hitting the brake pedal. Its annoying but i deal. Id just take the work boots off and drive with sneakers or barefoot.

Ive heard pulling your plugs and cranking a few times like that will free it up if it is hydrolocked. -

yea i have AAA plus so i have free towing for 100 miles. Its nice Its not so nice to have my baby towed..along with the window baged since i couldnt put it up anymore. At least i had it towed by someone who loves my car. He towed it two years ago when i didnt know quite as much about cars. He pulled his tow truck up last night and was like "how many miles you got on that thing now? You just dont forget a car that nice" At least i know its in good hands and is being put in a locked yard for first thing monday morning. Thanks for the help Connie. But last night and this morning i was thinking a blown fuse or fuseable link. I checked all the fuses in the fuse box and they were all good so it someithing in the engine compartment..i was too tired out from pushing my car down the street with my gf behind the wheel steering it into a parking spot so i wouldnt get a ticket..to check a bunch of stuff. -

I looked and couldnt find the fusable links. Is it the grey box right behind the battery that holds them? -

Well i kno my carb probably needs replacing too but that wouldnt cause all my gauges along with my power windows and other things to not work. -
My car has been acting funny and running poorly for a little while now. Today it completely crapped out on me. I went to pick up my gf and when she got in and i put it in reverse it died. Putting it in reverse had nothing to do with it though. The dash board lights up but nothing works on it. The power windows dont work and the car cranks over but wont start. I looked under the hood and noticed that my failing raditor was leaking on wires that run inside the cabin. Could this be the culprit right here?

fiber glass stuff

gen 1 and 2 hoods made out of carbon fiber or fiberglass -
That pipe is actually your ASV valve pipe..not EGR. It was meant to introduce clean air from the air cleaner to the exhaust. As for the bolts you are refering they are indeed a Torx bolts. Last time i took a look under there it looked like a royal pita to get those things off. If i understand correctly you damaged that spacer and now need to take it off? I would get some PB blaster and soak the crap out of those two bolts..maybe even start the car up and get those bolts really hot before you try and get them off. As for a special tool i dont think there is one. I think you just have to be somewhat creative..as using a torx wrench will not do it at this point i doubt. maybe cut the sides of the bolt down with a file so that a socket fits snuggly on it. Thats something that i would probably do. BAP ( big a$$ pair) of vise grips might also help. Sorry if this doesnt help you too much. I hate exhaust work and feel your pain. good luck

Hmmm well maybe its been replaced in the past. It looks old as hell though so i assumed it was stock. Will post up my results at the end of the weekend hopefully.

hahahahahahaha i love this board so much. You guys are great. Anyways, When i was under my car i swore that the catylitic converter, or however you spell it ( now you know why i abreviated..I CANT SPELL LOL) was separate from the Y. I saw one u bolt in front of the cat and one behind it.
-
hahahaha you guys kill me. I was under the car today. I think there is a big difference between 2wd and 4wd exhausts as the 4wd ones have cat and y pipe as a one piece deal where as my cat comes off leaving the y pipe there.
-
alright sounds easy enough. Thanks for the quick reply. Ill post results after i do it this weekend. Once my car is old enough to not need emissions im going to look around and see if i can find someone to fab up a new exhaust for me WITHOUT cats muuuwwwahhha. Im thinking 2 1/4 inch exhaust from the stock Y pipe back to a borla muffler or something like that. Should sound pretty sweet.

Hey everyone my cat is shot. It rattles alot from the inside and both heat shields fell off. The car is also idling really rough and i originally thought it was the carburator but am not sure now. I think it could be that my cat is so plugged up that it wont run right. I dont have a welder and dont know anyone who does so for now im thinking of taking the cat off with an impact gun and then pounding the inside of it out and putting it back on. What do you all think?
-
Are they 2wd springs or 4wd ones? Thanks for the offer. I may just take you up on it
-
Oh ok cool. I might end up doing this sometime if i can find someone who has done it before to do it for me. I dont have the tools to cut springs myself. Your brats got a cool stance to it now. And btw i got rust problems in connecticut too . I need to get my sedan fixed again as its rusting faster than i can fix it.

thinking of repainting my wagon + photoshop =
hatchsub replied to Numbchux's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
you couldnt photoshop out the dent on your fender . Sorry couldnt resist. I love the look of it in the blue. I think i like the look of it with black bumpers..otherwise its just too much blue. Get er dun -
oh ok the oldschool technique of cutting springs. Thanks for the reply but im worried about the ride quality with that. This is my daily driver and i dont want to jump onto a sidwalk or something if i hit a bump

not to hijack but how do you lower the front of an EA81? I would really love to lower mine but mines 2wd. Would that pose a problem?

best gas mileage (ea81)
hatchsub replied to tailgatewagon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
well you have the recipe for getting the best gas milage with that combo of 2wd and 5 speed. I average over 30 on the highway with my 2wd 5 speed sedan. -
lookin good...im assuming you cut ALL the rust out before you rivited that piece in right? What the hell am i talking about of course you did
