  1. yeah the factory clutch should be good for you. These engines even modified are not going to push more than 150 horses most of the time. Most ive heard out of an EA81 was 200 and that was a supercharged one i believe from ram engines.
  2. HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA the best is seeing those plastic spinners on a minivan. Gets me everytime..and yes ive seen more than one wearing them.
  3. or find some alloys...H style looks good on those or rally. H ones are pretty common too. Nice car but yeah the caps gotta go.
  4. All carb issues. Sounds like choke problems if its not starting when cold.
  5. If you want a cheap tape deck i have one that was in my car when i got it. Its a kenewood from the early 90s that worked fine when pulled. 20 plus shipping and its yours. I dont have a book on it i dont think though You also might have to make it fit your dash as im not sure its DIN and im def sure it isnt double DIN.
  6. Yes 86 EA81 hatches could have come in auto. I had an 86 EA81 GL that was 2wd auto. Something tells me that is what this one is.
  7. Well if it was me i would get a beat up hatch that runs good dirt cheap and lift that one and leave the one you have alone. Keep it looking good.
  8. yes the EGR is for emmisions but it also helps lower the temp of the gas in the cylinders. If you have pinging or knocking when under load i would recomend hooking up the EGR again if it was working properly. Get rid of all the other crap though.
  9. DRRRRROOOOOOOLLLLLL. Wow that looks like a new car. I love the second pic where you can see the reflection of the light on the hood. I'm probably a bit weird around here cause i only have a 2wd and dont go wheeling but i love the stance that it has right now. It got a sorta rally car stance to it. EDIT: shouldnt this be in the older generation of subarus not historic
  10. make sure to adjust those valves every 15,000 or so and you'll get plenty of years out it. Great find.
  11. I believe thats what they were on the gl-10 at Harrys. My car is only a GL though so i didnt get door speakers. I only got the standard AM/FM pos 4 speaker system that i had to dump immediately.
  12. Hey Matt. The drivers side speaker is really really small so you want to custom mount something. The passenger side speaker is really close to a 4x6, so close in fact that they will bolt up with no modes. Heres how i did my car. Not sure if you saw this or not. The only hint of there being a none stock speaker there is that the fuse box is slightly tilted. These are infinity kappa 4x6 plate speakers but reference will do the same job for less. To mount it i cut the original drivers side speaker mount so i could remount the grill over the speaker when i was done. I think it came out looking pretty good. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/724118/3
  13. This is going to be a question only you can answer im afraid. It all comes down to how much effort you want to put into it. From your pics it looks like the entire front floor pans need to be cut out and replacements welded in. If you are handy with a welder like you say you are this should not be too big an issue for you to handle. Just make sure when doing this to get ALL the rust or it will return. Also leave no bare metal showing when finished. I would por15 both the inside and the outside if it were my car. Now that its running and driving its worth more though and there are not many subs of that age on the road anymore. Again its your decision but i vote you break out the sawsall and and welder and get to work on that thing. It will be a very cool, unique car when completed. Just my 2 cents. Good luck to you.
  14. I think me and my 83 sedan will make the trip out for that. Ill get to meet some other guys i havent met before. Maybe i can convince my gf to come along too.
  15. OOOWWWW free food i never refuse free food and friendly suby folks And yeah id love to start showing it soon. I need to get some work done to the body first though. The rust is coming back with a vengence. I did all i could on it myself for now but i need a my body shop to do some cutting and welding on my baby. Anyways shoot me a PM when you know exactly when all this work is taking place. Id love to see everyone again and maybe get those pics that melis took at Harrys. No guarantees as i am a college kid with a crap load of work but i will try my best.
  16. Yeah Daves the man. He bailed my A$$ out when i needed the manual radius rod plates to finish my 5 speed swap. I couldnt get enough time to go out to PA again so he went back to Harrys and pulled them for me and shipped them out. Couldnt have finished it without his help and everyone elses on this site.
  17. Well everyone seems to want you to go 4wd i vote you keep it 2wd. Better gas milage cause of less weight and hell you can get through alot with only 2wd. Buckys looking good for middle aged
  18. another thing..the pcv is there for a reason. what are you doing with the valve covers? Are there breathers on them? I would set it up with a PCV valve again.
  19. I did a write up about the swap on an EA81. Its in the USRM. Some aspects are slightly different but for the most part its the same procedure. Someone else can chim in with the differences.
  20. Hmm i replaced them not too long ago but the one near the tank looked a bit gross when i was down there. I think ill try replacing them when i get a chance. Thanks.
  21. this is a roo builders rebuild with about 7-10 thousand miles on it. It seems to run great other than that. Ill look into the choke though when i get a chance.
  22. Hey everyone this problem has slowely crept up on me. I used the search function and couldnt seem to find the exact same problem. When my car idles it idles about 900 rpms in neutral but goes up to 1000 and back down to 900 every few seconds. Anyone have any idea why this is happening? Other than the idle this car runs mint...and pulls harder than any EA81 that ive driven (having only driven autos before :-\ ). Maybe its time for a tune up? The plugs are only about 6 months old. As for the wires rotor and cap they are older but were replaced shortly before i got the car two years ago.
