  1. My Haynes says 14 to 16 ft-lb. When doing intake gaskets make sure both surfaces are smooth and shiny with no old gasket left. I used a block sander (non electric) to get it perfectly smooth all by hand. Hope this helps some
  2. haha i know this is for the high milage roos but i just had to do it '83 EA81 sedan 63,000 original miles
  3. Thanks so much McBrat. I just finished this rewiring up and it works great. I can still see the voltage move around a bit but not nearly as much as before. It barely moves. I wouldnt think that something like that would make such a difference.
  4. McBrat what kind of relay did you use. I just got back from Napa and they told me i needed to know what relay to use. There were pages upon pages of relays that i could have chosen from. You wouldnt happen to have the application that it came from or the # on the relay and brand of relay? Thanks for your help.
  5. I have the auto speedo cable with the threaded tranny side in good shape. You should be able to pull the end off and put it on your manual cable to make it work. Its yours for $2 plus shipping if you want it.
  6. It doesnt unscrew from the cluster. Just pull. It only unscrews from the transmission. Its just a plug at the cluster.
  7. Ok cool thanks McBrat. Now is the relay something that I can pick up at a NAPA? Also what gauge wire should i be running off the battery?
  8. I second.. pretty fugly. He should have spent his money on a faster engine and just a cosmetic restoration..not a cosmetic redo.ug
  9. There is no space under the rear seat at all..its just a piece of foam sitting directly on the floor. If i were to wire in a CD changer i would wire it under the drivers seat or passenger seat. Or if you have a cargo cover then maybe mount it to the plastic that is covering your rear wheel wells. I think it would be too much of a pain to wire it into the roof.
  10. McBrat could you explain to me a little bit more how you went about this? I think im going to do this fix as well before i go back to school.
  11. Ok i just finished swapping in the XT6 alt and am wondering if something is wrong or not. When i have my stereo blairing..with subs and amp the gauge stays right around 13 or 14 ...basically horizontal. The minute i turn on my rear defrost with or without the stereo the gauge dips to 12. Or if i have my turn signal on the gauge dips with the blinking of the turn signal. Do you think everything is ok or is there something wrong with my car to make it do this? Its always done this with stock alternators but i thought that with the higher output that would be a thing of the past.
  12. Ok thanks everyone. Im going to run it on ATF for 200 miles and see what happens. I have to drive 50 miles on thursday and 50 on friday so ill let everyone know how its all going soon. Thanks for the great advice as always.
  13. thats the thing i dont think they are. My theory is they are really gummed up from sitting around the JY for awhile..or just sitting for awhile period. The tranny only has about 75,000 miles on it
  14. yeah my tranny is only a 3 quart beast. Ok will give the ATF flush a try..if it loosens up a good amount would another direction to go be getting some redline?
  15. From what ive seen in other posts ATF does the same thing as rislone. Also i wouldnt want to just be driving around with rislone in my tranny for 20-30 thousand miles would i?
  16. crunchy as in hard to get in or feels like gears arnt meshing correctly right away.
  17. Hey all. Over the past week ive noticed that 2nd and 3rd gear are getting progressively crunchier on my 5 speed from Harry's. I just finished swapping it in 2 weeks ago and wondered if i should drain out the synthetic manual tranny fluid and fill it up with cheap auto tranny fluid..run it for a couple hundred miles then put the synthetic back in. It seems to loosen up considerably when i drive it on the highway for an hour then take back roads but in the morning when its cold its really crunchy. Also could i get away with saving the synthetic thats in it now and just put that back in or just trash it and get fresh stuff after im done with this.
  18. another thing you might want to check is your intake manifold gaskets. Spray some carb cleaner around them and see if the idle pics up. If it does you just found your problem. I had the same problem with my 86 gl hatch and it turned out it had vacuum leaks at the intake.
  19. Take that back panel off of the starter. Its held on by 3 screws. There will be two contacts in there and they are probably worn down. Replace them and your starter will be good as new.
  20. Ok sounds like a plan. I tried down at the manifold and it wouldnt come off because of the rust. Would it work better if i was able to undo the pipe at the valve it self..stuff a quarter in the valve and tighten down the pipe again?
  21. well ok both sides of this pipe are really hard to get off. I want to dissable these valves. Could i just pull the vacuum line going to them so they dont open..or would there be bad consequences to doing that? I tried to take them off and the manifold and that was a no go. I tried to get them off at the valve itself and that didnt work either.
  22. haha yea i thought about a 4wd swap but it would be too involved and i dont really need 4wd. As for the 50/50 i think maybe ill us what i have for now and do the 50/50 later on (like this summer or something).
  23. 2wd soobs are good as well as 4wds. Ive gone through things in my 2wd soob that you would think require 4wd. Anyway your plan sounds good to me. Yeah u should be able to fetch about 500 bucks on here..on ebay maybe even 1000 on a good day.
