  1. No thats not normal. How does the car run other than the milage? It is probably time for a tune up (plugs, wires, rotor, cap). You should also replace the fuel filters (one in engine compartment and one under car in front of right rear tire). If you dont know the last time the O2 sensor was replaced its probably time to do this as well. If you still have problems after that it may be time for a rebuilt carb or a new carb. Hope this gets you started. Good luck and cool car!
  2. Well yes and no. Thats the stock location for the front passenger side speaker in the dash. It was meant to look like part of the vent from the factory.
  3. Click on the link in my signiture and go to page three. Thats how i did my stereo install. Sounds sick!
  4. Fuel filters. Always a good idea to change them up after a time like that.
  5. Even with a 2wd suby i was still able to go through a foot of unplowed snow to pick my dad up from the train station. These cars kick **s in the snow. I had a real hard time getting it to slip...and when i did it was because i hit the brake too hard.
  6. Oh ok thanks everyone. Wesley Willis i would be interested in seeing the underhood diagram as well. While your at it, could you take some picks of the actual carb setup or have you swapped to a weber? Thanks to all who have replied. Steve
  7. Already way ahead of you. Just bought an intake from Monsteru for the hitachi.
  8. The diagram does me a bit of good but its for the Carter-weber..not the hitachi. I may try the book but i dont know how in depth haynes gets.
  9. It aint going to be stock for long ...headers, cam, intake, im hoping for low 14sec quarter mile times. But as i said..i love my camaro cause its hot and fast but...i wouldn't trade my tried and true subaru for anything...especially with winter coming
  10. I know its something simple but did you make sure that the ignition coil wire going to the distributor was fully snapped into the coil? I didn't realize that i hadn't done mine all the way cause i heard and felt the snap but it wasn't all the way snapped in. Other than that i got nothing. Im going to let the other guys ponder that one
  11. Im sure you can get that same great help about the legacy right here on the newer subaru forum. That is a sad day getting rid of that beauty. It looks sick! Its my car on steroids
  12. Hey im getting ready to bolt a hitachi on my EA81 and wondered if anyone had detailed pics of where all the vacuum lines go? I currently have a Carter-Weber so thats not much help. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  13. I was kinda thinking about something like this with a T-handle on top. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/hurst-shifter-handle-ford-mustang-chevy-T5-T-5_W0QQitemZ8013861062QQcategoryZ33736QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Will something like that bolt on? I dont know what the linkage looks like seeing as how i don't have the 5 speed yet. Just planning ahead
  14. Yes! If the leak is big enough it can. I had an exhaust manifold leak on my suby and it idled real rough and wanted to die at stops too. If i didn't completly floor it it would die. Not to mention it sounded like hell.
  15. Are there any good aftermarket shifters for our beloved subarus? Im kinda an american muscle car fan and want to put a bit of that in my subaru. I was thinking a 6 or 7 inch long shift rod by hurst and a hurst T-handle on top. What do you guys think? Im assuming that im not going to be able to swap out the linkage for hurst linkage but im thinking bolting on a new shift rod and handle would not be that big a deal.
  16. Really?..dont suppose you would want to part with it would ya?
  17. Hell i wouldn't mind throwing one on my car right now..lol. I wonder how hard it is to find one of those now?
  18. Anyone seen this? Kinda like 80's rice huh? http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/80s/accessories/80-airdam.jpg
  19. I know its a bit off topic but my IROC only has 190 horsepower stock but its a v8 and has loads of torque making it fun to drive. I agree with the old school rule of thumb to a point about no replacement for displacement...but then again look at the WRX! Final decision is up to you though.
  20. Ouch if its not leaking that could very well be a head gasket. Did this car overheat at some point?
  21. Wait what the hell? Thats not even a brat. Thats like what an EA82 brat would look like...with a dump bed.
  22. really debating the weber now. Anyone know where i can get a set of gaskets to mount it to the intake? I cant seem to get through to anyone at redline...EVER!
  23. Anyone ever find a bolt with the same threads and just bolt it in at the header? Also anyone ever have any problems with a weber icing over in the winter?
  24. way to go! I cant wait to swap a 5 speed into my 83. I hate subaru automatics.
  25. Does this car have an O2 sensor? If so you might want to think about replacing that. My car had a high CO% and failed until i had the O2 sensor replaced. Then it passed without a problem.
