passing emissions with a weber?
hatchsub replied to hatchsub's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I know this is an old post of mine but i have a few more questions about the weber. Will it set off any trouble codes in the computer because im not running the O2 sensor? What did all of you people do with all the vacuum line mess when hooking it up? I mean the EGR valve and the reed valves on either side that are hooked to the header with a steel pipe? Thanks again! -
Hitachi 2brl, Weber, Or SPFI?

Hey how did the weber work out? Better than the hitachi? Was it easy to tune or a pain in the butt? -
Hatch questions-weatherstripping + clicking
hatchsub replied to justified's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Three possiblities for weatherstripping..a junkyard, subaru dealer, or on here. Im sure there is someone in the parts forum thats got something and can send it. Thats what i would do at least. -

Must be nice to live in a place where rust isn't an issue. Last time i was down in Arizona i saw all types of cars that are non-existent in New England. I mean when was the last time anyone up here has seen a rust free AMC Gremlin? Or try about 10 of them. -

Ok thanks mudboat. Ill hopefully be getting it done over thanksgiving break. Now that its getting cold out my car is running like crap with this carter-weber carb. -
I have a set of four 13 inch steel wheels off an 83 GL. Three out of the four are in nice shape for their age and the last one has some rust. All are straight with no dings. If this sounds interesting you can PM me and we can work out the price. Shipping might suck though. :-\ Oh just realized i was in the new subaru forum. Sorry bout that. These will probably not work for you unless u posted in the wrong forum too

Does your car leak a lot of oil? My car was leaking a ton of oil when i got it and did the exact thing you are talking about. Good oil pressure if i was giving it gas but at a light it would go almost to zero. I resealed my oil pump, new gaskets on the valve covers and oil pan and did the rear main seal. Now it goes to about 10-15 psi on idle. This may be a dumb question but have you checked the oil level as well? It could be that your just really low.
-
Thats the first way that the guy told me he hooked it all up. He had a problem exiting freeways though because the oil would build up and go into the intake through the PCV valve when he made a hard right corner. Thats why he switched it over to the way i described above.

I asked someone about this awhile ago when i thought i was going to do this swap. Get a lenth of rubber hose the same diameter as the original stuff and long enough to go from one valve cover to the other right behind the carb. Now that you have that get a (T) fitting and cut the hose and install the (T) fitting and then hook a hose up to the PCV valve. Then cut the hose again and install another (T) fitting. This one is where you will hook up another shortish hose and push in a chevy type breather. You can then zip tie it to the spare tire support or there abouts. The breather (T) fitting should be to towards the pasenger side in relation to the PCV (T) fitting. Im only going on what ive been told but the person who told me this said it worked just fine. Hope this helps.

When putting on an intake manifold and carb should i just put the gasket on dry or use some permetex sealer to make sure that i have no leaks? thanks

High RPMs at freeway speeds, is this norm?
hatchsub replied to 211's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Ouch that does suck. Im getting 27mpg with an EA81. -
Car doesn't like to idle on it's own.
hatchsub replied to markjs's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If its a carter-weber...when looking at the front of the carb there is an idle solenoid to the right (so drivers side of the carb). There is a big screw sticking out of it. This is your idle adjustment screw. Just turn it clockwise to turn up the idle. hope this helps. PS: If you decide the carb has had it im getting rid of my Carter-Weber for a hitachi. Mine hessitates with 58,000 miles on it but runs pretty good when warm. Ill give it to ya for 20 bucks if you really want it but if i were you i would do the hitachi or weber. Good luck -
Hitachi 2brl, Weber, Or SPFI?
hatchsub replied to hatchsub's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Thanks for all the replys guys. Ive decided to save some money and keep the factory look by upgrading to the 2 barrel hitachi from 75subie. -

Thanks for the heads up moosens. It doesn't sound like anything that im interested in though. If it was SPFI then i would think twice about it but if its just carb it doesn't really do me much good. Thanks though. Steve -
Hitachi 2brl, Weber, Or SPFI?

Hey if i was to convert to hitachi from Carter-Weber all i have to do is swap manifolds? Is there any rewiring or is it all a plug in deal with the electric choke? Thanks for any help guys. -

Hitachi 2brl, Weber, Or SPFI?
hatchsub replied to hatchsub's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Sorry i didnt make it clear enough. Its the Carter-Weber one barrel not the good 32/36. -
I have the carter weber right now and im really sick if it hessitating on me. Ive had a hitachi before and it did the same thing. My question is has anyone had a hitachi that didn't hessitate when it was warm? If so i would think that would be my best bet for all around ease of hookup. I don't want to get rid of all my emissions stuff cause i still need to pass. Ive heard a place mentioned on here that was supposed to have very good remanufactured carbs. I don't remember the name of it though. Anyone know what im talking about? I also was just on ebay looking at Hitachi's from other cars. It looks like it wouldn't take too much work for a chevy luv hitachi to bolt up or an old nissan hitachi. Anyone have anything to say about this? SPFI is very tempting but the wiring is what scares me. I do realize that with any of these options i will need either an EA81 2brl manifold or an EA82 SPFI manifold. Im looking for about the same or better fuel economy (currently getting 27mpg on the highway), and a bit better performance. Lets the opinions begin!!

Hitachi Carb Troubles... Again!
hatchsub replied to Mudboat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'm just going on what ive been told before about webers considering i don't have one (been thinking about it though). Ive heard that they're a biotch to tune but once you have it right its a great carb. That price is good too considering that last price i saw for one of those kits was 400+ dollars. The other option that im thinking about and maybe you could too is to convert it to SPFI. This would be the cheaper alternative and more reliable. Just a thought. Good luck in whatever you decide. -

Are the EA82's geared slightly different than EA81's? Cause i have a 3 speed auto and on the highway going 70-75 its doing 4000rpms.
