  1. nice find. Wish they came my way that cheap!
  2. replace both fuel filters..theres one near the tank in front of the right rear tire and theres one in the engine bay. The one near the tank is often overlooked and napa doesn't even have this one in there computers. I have to bring it in and show them it. I cant remember the part # off the top of my head. Sorry.
  3. I have horrible hessitation if i dont let my car warm up and even when its warm it isn't a hundred percent. I have the Carter-Weber one barrel. Could this be an accelator pump issue as well? Or a clogged jet? Or just a crappy Carb? I want to get it running a bit better especially now that winter is coming.
  4. Ive done the oil pan gasket on an EA81 and Subaru has drilled holes in the crossmember that line up with the oil pan bolts so that you do not have to jack the motor up to take the pan off. Im not sure about EA82's but I have no reason to believe that subaru would switch it up. Any EA82 owners want to pipe in?
  5. I would assume go down to your local subaru dealership and have them order them if they don't have them on the shelves collecting dust.
  6. No problem. Keep me posted. Im curious how yours turns out. And the main reason that i grounded it myself is i don't really trust 22 year old wiring for a modern stereo. I have peace of mind knowing that all the wiring for mine is new (except for the ignition power)
  7. I don't know if you can fit a Double DIN stereo in one of these dashes. There kinda tight. But i do have another alternative. Crutchfield carries a regular aftermarket size headunit that plays CD's and cassettes and is reasonably cheap too. Heres the link. Hope that gives you one more option. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-LwEDX2HbLV6/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=300&id=morephotos&pi=1&i=140FXCD550&display=L#Tab
  8. My first install was in an 86 EA-81 hatch. The rear speakers are 4 inch rounds. They're junk and you'll never get great sound with speakers that small. Only options are to cut the holes bigger and put the 5 and a quarter speakers like you said or forget about stock mounts and get some speaker boxes for 6x9's. But, when doing all of this, dont touch the factory wiring. Its junk. They had a common ground for all the speakers so the best thing to do is just unplug the factory speakers and tuck the wiring out of the way. Then go get some good speaker wire and throw wires to each speaker. Going to the rear speakers you are going to want to remove the kick panels and run wires under there. The front speakers are easy since there close to the the headunit. Just run some wires where ever you want to make it look cleanest. Literally the only thing that i used from the stock wiring was the power wire when the ignition is turned on. I just plugged into that. I didnt even trust the factory ground and instead grounded it to the transmision hump. For the constant power (the one that saves all your presets when you turn the car off) you are going to have to run a wire to the fuse box and search around for a fuse that is always hot even when the ignition is turned off. Sorry for writing a book but i just want to save you from making the same mistakes i made the first time i wired up a stereo in one of these cars. Good luck again!!
  9. Don't the hydraulic lifter engines have the "do not adjust valve clearance" sticker on the valve covers? If so mine is an 83 with hydraulic lifters so he may need hydraulic lifters as well.
  10. If its an EA-81 '89 then you should have clean sailing. Good luck and if you have any problems or questions don't hessitate to shoot me a PM.
  11. Well if its is leaking vacuum at the intake an easy way to test would be to spray some carb cleaner or brake cleaner around that area and see if the cars idle jumps up. If so you found your problem. If its only leaking coolant though the only way to know for sure is to pull the intake.
  12. Im sure if I really tried harder then i could have done it so that fuse box didn't move. I figured it was either that or cut a hole in the door. I chose that of course..lol. It fit in there once I stripped some of the foam padding off the walls of the dash on the inside. It JUST fit though. There is no space to move it from side to side. Also when putting it in, i had to take the fuse box out and put the speaker in through the bottom. I was lucky that everything lined up enough for me to bolt it down.
  13. Ask and ye shall receive. I just went out and shot a few pics of the stereo for everyone. Click on the link in my signiture and go to page 3. If you have any more questions don't hessitate to ask. Ive done 2 stereos in these cars so its not too big a deal anymore.
  14. Yeah i was asking that myself. Could you explain this?
  15. Yeah I'll admit there was def some difficultly in getting a 4x6 to fit where a 3x5 once was but it fit...just barely. I'll see if i can borrow a friends camara and run out to the car a grab a couple of shots of it for you guys. It may take me a bit to do but ill come through! I didn't have a problem with depth on the passenger side even though the Infinity Kappa's i used are somewhat deep. There is only a vent tube behind the passenger side speaker if my memory serves me right. Or were you talking about interference with the top of the glove box?
  16. i might have been unique in what i did with the dash speakers but i put two 4x6 infinity kappa plate speakers in the dash in the stock locations. The passenger side was a direct bolt in deal while the drivers side i had to make a custom bracket from the old mount so that i could put the speaker cover on it again and make it look stock. IF your interested in seeing how it turned out I might be able to go out and snap a few pics for you. It looks stock until you look into the speaker areas and see GOOD speakers there. Good luck with your stereo install. Ive done two stereos in these EA-81s and there a pain in the a**.
  17. I looked around the net and this site but i cant find an awful lot about the EA81T motors. I know they were installed in brats, coupes and wagons in '83 and '84 but were they also installed in the hatch and sedan body styles? Why were they never offered with a manual transmission? Could it not handle the power of the turbo motors? How many turbo EA81 cars were made? I know they are probably pretty rare as i have never seen one in person and only a few on the internet for sale. Im really bored right now if you all couldn't tell and my mind is wandering into the past .
  18. Compared to other cars, subarus water pumps are really easy to get to and work on. I did a a water pump in 3 hours and that was because i was taking my time. I don't even want to know how hard the water pump is to work on on my IROC camaro. "shudder...shudder"
  19. Radiator replacement is really straight forward. Just remove the radiator fans ( a few bolts top and bottom), take the hoses off (sometimes it is just easier to cut them and get new ones from a parts store), unscrew the fan switch, and unbolt the radiator. Also of course drain the coolant!. I had never done a radiator replacement before and when i did, i didn't run into any problems. Radiator replacements are one of the easiest things to do on old subarus in my opinion. That and water pumps. I wouldn't take my chances with a used radiator. Go to one of the local garages and find out where they get new radiators. Then go to them directly and buy a new one. Thats what i did and it was only about 200 if i remember right. Car ran very cool after that. Good luck!
  20. Haha i should really know more before i open my mouth. Well I'm glad to hear its not a air ride XT. Good luck with it.
  21. Does it still have that air suspension and if so does it work well? Cool ride though and good luck!!
  22. Yeah i would be interested in what it takes to do the swap. Do i need different cylander heads or just the intake manifold, throttle body, computer, and i assume a different fuel pump?
  23. Anyone know where i can get one of these and how much they cost. Its a Solex. http://i4.ebayimg.com/01/i/05/32/e8/fb_1.JPG
