  1. I was hoping to get a few of those silver caps for the wagon wheels. And possibly one of these if you came across one... Thanks!
  2. Is there a possibility I could get you to pick up a couple parts for me? I'm in Seattle, and would prefer not to make the trip if at all possible. Thanks, Kevin
  3. Those are a couple of great finds. I know it was difficult for me to start the parting process of the new soobie, but I convinced myself that it must be done. It's kinda sad though- seeing a poor old soobie stripped of all of it's treasures.
  4. Hi all, I spotted a lifted blue late 80's soob take off from a stoplight today in Auburn, WA at the intersection of R and 29th St SE. Does this describe anyone on here, does anyone know who it might be. I enjoyed looking at the vehicle, and would like to meet some soob owners in the area. -Kevin
  5. Yeah, be sure to get your mom a new radiator though... I know the consequences of doing otherwise... Anyway, how did you do the damage in the first place? Phone pole? Tree? Also, I'm in Washington, but I just got an '82 parts car so let me know if there is anything I can send your way that you can't find locally.
  6. No shorts, no burn-- however, no shorts also means a colossal amount of rump roast sweat.
  7. I don't think that there are any factory vinal seats in soobs, much less would I want them. I've been in cars before where, like Karin said, you sat down, and they burned your legs. Also, on warm days, you get a CRAZY amount of butt/lower back sweat when you have to sit on them for any period of time. So there are ups and downs of all vinal. My thought would be just to clean your seats every once in a while...
  8. Yeah, I was surprised. The 409 was great, and the shout was excellent. I'm not sure what exactly did the best, but I do know that my seats are nice and clean now. I used a whole bottle of each, but I think it was worth it, as you can see here: They both are nice and white now, only problem is, I think I scrubbed so hard I created a hole in the left side... uh oh.
  9. Because I developed a few holes in my front seats, I decided to find some new fabric. This turned out to be quite difficult due to it being so obscure. Anyway, I finally found it (in a wagon-- i had to buy the whole thing just for the seats!) and I began the cleanup today. I started out by cleaning it with 409, graduated to liquid laundry soap and moved on to shout. It got all of the grime and most of the stains out. Now onto the tricky part- where would you guys recommend I get the upholstry work done? Specifically in the Auburn/ South King county/ North Pierce county.
  10. Just in case anyone ever needs this info again, I finally got my torque wrench out a few days ago, tightened the castle nut on the outside of the hub up to 150 ft. lbs. and the noise on both sides is gone! So the moral of the story is, make sure you put everything back together the way it came. Thanks for everyone's help!
  11. I woke up to my car a couple years back to find it sitting up on blocks with the brand new alloy wheels gone. I don't know what they were thinking, it would be my guess that the 4 lug configuration isn't that common...
  12. I just got another '82 wagon that I need some help with. The engine is turning over but nothing happens other than that. The guy I bought it from said that it's going to need a new carb. I won't be using it for anything other than trails around my house, but I would appreciate some help getting it fixed. Is there anyone in the Auburn/ Sumner/ South King/North Piece county area that would be willing to help me get this baby running? I'm new to this stuff, and would really appreciate the help. Thanks, Kevin
  13. I haven't checked my mounts, but will tomorrow. I've been keeping a close eye on that thread. I noticed today that my shifter jumps when I let off of the gas... I'll have a look around down there, but if anyone with an EA81 could take a few pictures of what everything is supposed to look like, I would really appreciate it.
  14. The Uhaul tow dollies work perfectly. Be sure to reserve it about a week in advance, and call the day before to make sure they didn't give your trailer away. They aren't the brightest bunch down there...
  15. I'm having trouble finding the place to adjust the shifter for my 1982 4wd GL- EA81. The shifter sits about an 1.5 inches above where it should-- like it should sit level with the plastic between the seats, but it is at a slight angle upwards. Whenever I brake it comes up even more and it turns the 4wd light on on the dash. I've had a look at the shifter directly and can't find anything wrong inside the vehicle, but I am curious if there is an adjustment that can be made outside the car underneath or inside the engine bay and where it would be located. Thanks, Kevin
  16. There is an adhesive that we use at work to bond rubber gaskets to the stainless steel piping for the transport of yogurt. I believe it is by 3M, but can't remember the name of it. It's what I used to put all of my "subaru" pieces and trim back on after my paint job. Works VERY well (almost too well, seeing as how i put my subaru stars on the back on upside down and now i can't get it off to fix it... damn). I'll check on the name of it for you tomorrow.
  17. and what's with yamaha? they make everything from motorcycles to tractors to electric guitars and all sorts of other electronics...
  18. Check your exhaust. I had a loose nut on the stud connecting the exhaust pipe to the flange and it was causing a tick tick tick when I gave the engine gas as well as when I rolled down a hill in 2nd or 3rd gear.
  19. I've gone through most of this stuff recently in the process of fixing all of the problems with the wagon. I would start by checking the main ground from the battery. Mine was loose and causing all sorts of problems. Tightened it up and most of the flickering went away. 2 was a big problem for me. i thought getting a jump helped, but i think it was mostly superstition because it turned out to be my ignition switch. i didn't have to replace it, but a small fix. i ended up taking the plastic off of the steering column as to gain access to the ignition switch. the key was turning in the lock, but the switch had to be turned just a tiny bit more than i could through the lock. i used pliers to twist the stem coming from the ignition lock just a wee bit, enought to turn the switch to get the starter going. 4 was a problem in my car also, i replaced the relay and it worked just fine. I would also recommend opening up the windshield motor and cleaning the contacs in there. sometimes they get covered with grease and fail to make contact properly. also check your ground for the motor. 5 sounds like a low battery... 7 happened once to me also, i freaked out but it hasn't happened since. i've cleaned all the contacts to the battery and whatnot, but i doubt that had anything to do with it. 8 has been happening to me as well recently, and i am curious as to what is causing it. if i find out, i'll let you know though. peace
  20. I'm looking for some new tires. I had some good year 4 season 175/70r13's that i was really satisfied with, but I'm looking for a pair of those and a summer pair as to not wear those ones out too quickly. What does everyone on here recommend?
  21. I figured that too, but then I jacked it up, took the wheel off, and everything spun just fine. But I KNOW something is wrong, and it sounded to me like a stuck caliper also. Is there a way to "loosen" the caliper? The slimeball at the local shop said that my parking brake cable going to that side is too tight (he's the douche that put it in in the first place)... Is there anyway to loosen up that cable as to keep it from dragging? Any other thoughts?
  22. Does anyone know of a way to fix the tiny strips on the inside of the rear window? I have quite a bit of damage to my rear defrost, and it doesn't work at all. I'm getting power to them, and I know that the strips are definately shot, so I figure I should fix them somehow...
  23. Awesome. I've noticed that there are a lot of front end problems with the subies, but you gotta love 'em. Anyway, thanks for the help!
