  1. Thinking of upgrading from my Hyundai DM-2017 LWB to an Ascent now that they have been around a while and hopefully most if not all of the bugs have been worked out. Any years to avoid? All the kinks worked out of the CVT (no other option, correct)? Any major issues in this model? Thanks
  2. Well, too much rust for me, no jump seats, he does have two of the original wheels. Would go down to $4000, but I was thinking more like $2500. so no deal.
  3. YEP, CO plate, without my shoulder surgery I could hit it with a rock, OK it's 2 miles away but you get the picture! I am not fond of the RARE moniker, but to each their own, I guess. They are fewer and lesser seen. Thanks, I'll report back tomorrow!
  4. Looking at this tomorrow AM Been way out of the loop on older Subies? Had a BRAT in the late 90's, wheels look wrong? Will do at least a compression test. THOUGHTS? About This Vehicle Driven 197,000 miles Automatic transmission Exterior color: Green · Interior color: Fuel type: Gasoline This vehicle is paid off Clean title This vehicle has no significant damage or problems. Seller's Description Rare 1983 Subaru Brat with topper in very good condition. This car sat for a good amount of time so it has some rust in some spots but otherwise pretty clean. See pics and video. The T Top glass are removable if you want to go off road. The interior has been completely cleaned including shampooed seats and carpets. With some small work it can be a daily driver. Newer tires put on. New windshield/wiper blades. Will be done tomorrow April 4th. The pick up has the option of a 2wd and a 4x4 with a manual transmission. Clean title Cash Only
  5. Got this text from my daughter; After taking key out of car, Car still says keys in ignition and won't lock or turn the dome light off. Also when car is in park stick clicks and shifts in it's parked position I am guessing there is a sensor or switch in the ignition lock? So far, after several trys it has always worked and allowed the vehicle to be locked. Thoughts? Not sure what would make the shifter 'click'?
  6. Looking at 2020/21 Accents, wondering what is the status of that CVT. Never been a fan of CVTs, but no other options, also do not see many posts about the Accent. Any major known problems with them? Thanks
  7. Well it is done, battery side was worse. Definitely not fun working blind but, in the future it will be easier. If I have to do it again, it's not my car, just doing a favor. Thanks for all your input. Merry Christmas
  8. So you DO NOT have to remove the bumper cover, some one sent me manual pages and that was needed?
  9. Looking for instructions on replacing the 2010 Legacy Headlamp bulbs. Does not look like they made this easy, like in the past. Any tutorials out there?
  10. The 2010 Legacy we just bought was supposedly in two accidents but there is absolutely zero indication of that. One of the accidents was minor the other one was supposedly moderate with airbag deployment but having done lots of body work and been working on cars for 40+ years I would beg to differ. I guess it's possible if it went to a triple five star Body Shop that is accustomed to doing work on vehicles that are ending up at Mecum Auto Auctions. But I don't think the reports are accurate.
  11. Thanks for all the comments and suggestions, Pretty much the same as my old 99 2.2L. Finished the job yesterday, got the parts from Subaru Superstore in Chandler AZ. Total cost with shipping was $476.10, Belt, Tensioner, Pulleys, Thermostat, Water Pump and Gaskets. Locally would have been $682.54, they did send the wrong water pump so a $95.73 pump went up to $139.95, had to go get that locally in the Springs to complete the job. Someone had been in there before, the pump gasket was paper not metal like Subie uses and one of the clamps on the bypass hose was on the hose, just not over the nipple part coming off the pump, not sure if the T-Belt was done but it is now. New timing belt and pulleys, water pump, thermostat, hoses, coolant, fan belt, oil change, filters - she is good to go.
  12. Looking at a 2010 Legecy, probably picking up Tuesday. Wondering if anyone has an account and can provide a CarFax as this is from a private party? VIN 4S3BMBC61A3240702 Thanks, Bill
  13. Looking for some information on a 2010 Legacy timing belt change. Looking at this vehicle for my daughter-in-law Saturday and just in case the sellers cannot show proof that the timing belt was changed (157k miles), should have been changed twice in my opinion. Looking for a complete list of parts that would be required. Also the best place to get genuine Subaru parts for the best price. I have ordered parts from Liberty Subaru in NJ always had great prices. Having only experience doing my 1999 2.2 L a few times, I'm sure there are some subtle differences between the 2.2 and the 2.5 and also the 12-year difference in models, but still a boxer. Definitely do not want to go cheap and not get Subaru parts, I did that once and cost me a pair of valve/head jobs when a pulley siezed. Also if anyone has the manual pages for the R&R, would greatly appreciate that. I only have 95, 99 and 99-04 manuals.
  14. Like the title says, My 99 Impreza has been parked at work for 3+ weeks, working from home with work vehicle. Had the opportunity to go pick it up, co-worker REVERSED the jumper cables, blew the 80A fuse. Towed it home with AAA, charged the battery and jumped the fuse terminals, and the list is long. Will get an actual fuse tomorrow, but I do not expect any changes to the list. No Start, Cranks Over (no spark) Fuel (?) No Hazards (no turn signals with hazard button pushed, otherwise work) No Horn No Head or Running Lights (can hear relay clicking when switching between the two) No Power Windows No Power Door Locks No Radio Fan, Interior Light, Reverse, Turn Signals (see above), Wipers and Squirter all work All other in car and under dash fuses are good, do not know where to start? Is there a fusible link somewhere? Thoughts? Bill UPDATE, No response from my OBD2 code reader, computer might be fried but would that affect all the other systems?
  15. I am wondering if any one has a CarFax account and can run my VIN?VIN is 1J4GZ58SXRC228049Looking to possibly sell one of my rides and this may be a plus?Yeah, it's not a Subie
  16. I had to re read that 8k, missed the km, my work goes 5k miles, I still like 3k miles Old School, thanks for the info.
  17. Thought I would revive this year and a half old topic. Any updates on the oil consumption issue, how are the 2016, 2017 and 2018 models? Really need to get a newer vehicle and get rid of three or four.
  18. Can not find info on removing the 99, I see some have a large bolt and circlip mine only has a small allen head bolt, Any tricks, or am I just dealing with rust? Bill
  19. What about the legacies, any idea when they got the FB? And what are your opinions on the 5 and 6 speeds for this era? I'm also guessing current models are still using the FBS and, at what point did the oil consumption not become an issue?
  20. My old 99 2.2 Impreza (260K), while it still runs good, the transmission (5 Spd) is soon to be in need of a rebuild. It is getting costly to keep up with some rust issues, So I have been looking at some "newer" used Subies. (Impreza or Legacy) Having not really kept up with the new models I am seeking advise on some of the following. I really do not want to go older than 2010 or over $15K, but there are a couple of 2009 listed, wondering about 2.0 vs 2.5, Auto vs 5 vs 6 Spd (prefer manual), Turbo (the 2010 Legacy is). Any inherent problems with Model / Years I am looking at? I am not in a rush, but really need some quality guidance from you all experts. 2010 Subaru Legacy AWD 2.5GT Limited Sedan 6 Spd $16,788 RetailValue $14,988 Internet Price Mileage 108,769 2009 Subaru Impreza 2.5i Auto No-haggle price $11,998 Mileage 72K 2014 Subaru Impreza 2.0i Auto No-haggle price $15,998 Mileage 37K 2014 Subaru Impreza 2.0i Auto No-haggle price $15,998 Mileage 42K 2014 Subaru Impreza 2.0i Sport Premium 5 Spd No-haggle price $15,998 Mileage 63K 2009 Subaru Impreza Outback 5 Spd No-Haggle Price $10,998 Mileage 118K These are all in the Denver / Colorado Springs area, and I know I would not get much for a trade-in on the 99 so it will be kept around for BAD snow days, wish some of these were 2 doors, but that's a thing of the past! Thanks, Bill
  21. 99 Impreza L, 2.2 liter Have an issue where neither left nor right mirrors will adjust from in the cabin. I have checked the fuse at this point and that is good. Before I start really tearing into things I'm wondering if anyone knows of any inherent problems that I should check first? Thanks, Bill
