Yep, looks like the PayPal is working now, I've gotten two so far this morning. If you tried to register before but it failed try again, that is where we are getting our registration database from, if you don't go through there, we my miss you. So you have your warning, if somehow you get missed, it will probably be because you didn't use the web site. As for posting a list, I guess I could do that, but I'll wait awhile to get one started. -

Didn't get anything from you, did get one person so far that has actually sent money via PayPal. The e-mail site shows that at least 4 people have registered (Tex sent one, but I don't know if that was real or not). You people either need to pay through PayPal or send me a separate e-mail (link on web site) to get mailing info. Brian, you might want to try again, if I get more the one from you, I will return all but one. I sent a reply to the three that I didn't get any money from, the reply included my mailing address. -

Congratulation to Turbone for being the first to register. -
hatch suspension swap question
Dr. RX replied to dragonwingsubaru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I don't know what you would gain by doing this, but if you look at the front struts you'll see that the EA81 series only has two mounting studs while the EA82 has three. You can change the tops, but I still don't understand would you would gain. Sucker king is correct, the EA81 series doesn't have coil over shocks, but the EA82 series does. I don't think there is room for the coilovers on an EA81 series car. -
Anyone buy the EA81T Convertible?
Dr. RX replied to richierich's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I know the seller sometimes visits this board, I hope he realizes what a mistake he made. Does anyone have the buyer's Ebay ID, they could send him a message and ask him about his plans for the car. -
Rebuild EJ20DET
Dr. RX replied to cyboid's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX
Freak, you need to understand that most places that sell these engines have no idea of the Subaru engine coding, they go by what they are familar with, which is usually a Honda or Toyota code. To answer your question cyboid, many of the current WRX engine (2.0 liter) have the same internal components, where you will run into problems is the gaskets. A place the I use to get these type of parts for my JDM EJ20Gs is a place in Japan, ( http://www.japanparts.com/SubaruParts/ImprezaGCGF/Index.htm ), you'll need to give them exact information so that they can get the parts from a Japanese Subaru dealer. So, if you can give me so more info about the engine that you have, I should be able to narrow it down. -
How to remove the coolant under the turbo???
Dr. RX replied to Petersubaru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'm sure that you could replace it without taking all that stuff off, but it would be very frustration. At a minimum I would remove that cooling shrouds. You had better use a genuine Subaru part here, the extra money you might spend would be great insurance. If the coolant hose that runs under the turbo does break or leak, I'd be willing to bet that you would know it long before you would damage the engine. The steam generated by the water hitting the exhaust would be blinding. -
Gee Ken, he said that Phantom Grips suck, so pointing him to John is useless. If you has money to burn, let him burn it. Heck I've got 2 LSDs and a VLSD in my garage, let's see if he can entice me to sell him one of them. PS: Ken I saw the j/k.

Need help with a logo for this year's WCSS
Dr. RX replied to ezapar's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
I don't know about that, I think I remember someone making that suggestion, that they be able to find the show by the logo. PK, your's is just a little too high. But then everyone know how picky I am. -

Tex, you must be bored at work again. The 'D' one would make a great bumper sticker, but then I hate bumper stickers so what would I know. -
Gee, I guess it was your statement, "I now also own the two most difficult, hair tearing, ratchet throwing, sailor swearing cars to work on." But the hair tearing, ratchet throwing and sailor swearing would apply to just about every type of car that I have worked on from one time to another. I think Mitsubishis are much harder to work on the Subarus, especially the V6 models, they hide the alternator next to the firewall, under the head, if you didn't know where it was, it would take you some time to find it. Yea, it's a lucky woman who gets married to a mechanic, I tell my wife that every time she tells me about her firends and their car troubles, and she agrees.

A stethascope has suprised me
Dr. RX replied to pyromanic's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The next time you are under the car, pull the oil pump and look for yourself. Without being right there with you it is next to impossible to guess exactly what is wrong, and believe me, anything said here would be a guess without being there. So do yourself a favor, get greasy, pull the pump and investigate, then tell us what you found. -
The easiest way to tell if it is an 85 or not is to look at the rear view mirrors on the door, if there is a space between them and the door it is an 85, if not it is newer. The 85 was the only year that had that style of mirrors.

I paid $102.50 for both air bags (steering wheel and dash) plus $25 shipping for a total of $127.50, if you are willing to pay that, I will sell these to you, here is a link to the Ebay bid I won, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7951365991 , these are the same as in a 1996 Legacy.
-
As the owner of the vehicle, you can disable the air bags, but you can not have someone do it for you, like a repair shop. Mtsmith is probably correct up to the point of canceling you. When airbags deploy, the damage that they themsleves create is often enough to put you over the limit of the value where the insurance company will total the car. I'm wondering, did the passenger air bag take out the whole rear view mirror or just half of it, most that I have seen will only take out half the mirror. I'll have to look and see what I paid for the set that I have, and no longer need, I got them off Ebay, and they were pretty resonable since no one else bid on them. I would pursue Subaru, it's probably a dead end though. You might want to take good clear photos of any damage or signs of the impact on your cars as evidence.

That's why I suggested Hilt, CA, you can't get any further north on I-5 in California and not be in Oregon. -
I thought you were putting it into another Subaru, but it appears that you have some sort of a kit car that you are installing it into. If it is the avatar picture, do you have any larger pictures?

Boy don't we all wish. Caboobaroo is correct. If you go the EJ22 route, why not use the EJ series tranny too, unless you just have to have D/R, then the only thing you'll need to do it modify the rear piece of a Legacy tranny mount and get the front driveline shortened 55mm. I personally think the with the extra torque of the EJ22, the D/R isn't needed. I'm still trying to find a source in Japan for the EJ series D/R trannies, seems like they have them a lot in Europe, but it is easier to get parts shipped from Japan. Excuse me, I didn't notice the you were in Whales, the EJ series D/R should be readily available there.
