  1. I believe it has something to do with the venturi effect. The intake manifold will always product a vacuum as long as air is passing through it, all the turbo does is back more air into the same space, there is still a vacuum created. Try this, place a tube into a bucket of water, now blow air across the opening at a 90 degree angle, if done right, you will suck water out of the pucket, that will happen because of the vacuum you are creating by the air passing over the opening.
  2. The answer to your question is, yes Subaru has a factory manual for you car, the problem is that from 93 to 99 they created a series of binders, with volumn 1 & 2 being the 93 model year, each volumn after that was updates and changes between model years, so to get a 96 FSM (Factory Service Manaul), you would need volumns 1, 2, 3, and 4 (there wasn't a volumn for 94) to have a 96 model year set. I have a complete set, volumn 1 thru 13, but do not wish to break up the set, the complete set, all 13 volumns is $325 plus shipping. Because of the size and weight of these books, I would expect the shipping to be somewhere around $50 (just a guess).
  3. If the reason that you are doing head work is because of a blown gasket, and overheating, my recommendation is to use new bolts.
  4. You might check, but that last time I did, CenterForce did not make a clutch for a cable pull type clutch on an Impreza. I have one in my WRX, but that is a hydraulic type clutch. For me, CenterForce makes the best clutches around.
  5. Your are fortunate to live in Florida, www.CVAxles.com is in Florida and those are the people that I recommend for axles.
  6. Got it, your data will show up the next time I refresh the web file.
  7. OK, all the info that I've been given so far (I think) has been up dated, so please go in and check to see if I got it right. I know that there are still a few out there who haven't sent me their data. In an earlier post I showed a site where you can download a reader that allows you to look at MS Excel files without having MS Excel loaded on your computer for those who would like to look at the database. Also, this is actually New Gen, but I'm going to be starting a similar database for Impreza coupes (body code GM), it is my understanding that these cars make up less then 10% of all the Imprezas built. So if you know of someone who has one, or you have one, please send me the same data as shown in the RX database.
  8. Mick, I just sent you 4 e-mails, do not open the second one, subject "Second Scanned Decal", the file is 4meg big, it got saved as a tif file by accident.
  9. Looks nice, can hardle wait to see it in person. You stated it is a 96, but it looks like it has an Outback Sports hood on it. Has it been updated to a 97 or newer hood, grille and lights?
  10. When ever I see some new RXs on the board. People don't regularly e-mail me if there are any changes. For those of you who do not have MS Excel on your computers, here is a link to a web site where you can download a viewer. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=4EB83149-91DA-4110-8595-4A960D3E1C7C&displaylang=EN
  11. Shame on you, Bill would be very displeased with you.
  12. I have a set of those, maybe I'll scan them with a scale and sent the file to McBrat.
  13. If you mean the famous 86 GL Turbo Coupe (which I owned an example of), the answer is no, it must have 56B in the VIN for US models. Incidently, my 86 had the 56B in the correct place, yet there were no markers on the car stating that it was a RX.
  14. Gee Andy, I'm not sure, did you look on the link and count them?
  15. It appears that there are a few new RX owners here on the board, could all RX owners please check my database to see if you car is on there, if not, or if it is. but under a new owner, please PM me so that I can undate the database (spreadsheet). here is the link to the database, http://www.corkysrocks.net/RX%20Database%203.xls
  16. Well, it was snowing when I got out of bed at 7:45 AM today, but now it has stopped (8:00 AM). Looking at the weather channel it seem pretty local, not all over the place. The weather forecast calls for temperature to raise, so i don't expect it to stick around long. Right now it bearly covers anything.
  17. Driving wasn't the only thing you had zero patience with. Don't know what I did, but I'm sorry.
  18. Apparently you've been hiding under a rock, GM has a good size ownership of Subaru, somewhere around 25%. I'm not sure what your experience has been with GM products, but I have owned them for a long time, and have never had any real problems with them. GM is mostly after the technology from Subaru, I doubt that you will see a Subaru like a Saturn, more likely the other way around.
  19. Too bad this isn't like the copper head gaskets. The setup charge for those were the cost of creating a digital file that their machines could use. Fortuantely for us, Skip stepped forward and created that file and sent it to the guy in So Cal, now we can get them at the same cost as any others. It's too bad that I never inherited my Uncle's machine shop, I'd have these turned out in a heart beat.
  20. Are you going to do the labor or are you going to have a shop/dealer do it? If you can do it, it will save you a lot of money. Too bad you are on the other coast, I could save you a lot of money, my labor cost is only $15 an hour.
