  1. Actually I think we got the EA82s the same time as the rest of the world. I think the delay in models years started with the Legacy.
  2. It should be the same ducting as in any EA82, but I can check my parts book when I get home tonight.
  3. I think you're on the right track, I would definately suspect the ducting.
  4. I wonder about the article, first it states that the car is an 84 RX, well it might have been built in 84, but it is an 85 model. Next he stated that they didn't adjust a valve correctly and it hit a piston. Since these are clearance engines, the valve will not hit the piston, even if it is stuck at max open. Of course they didn't mention what type of new pistons that they installed, but the must have been high dome pistons because stock pistons wouldn't have had that problem. I also didn't see anything about a RA gear set installed in a RX tranny. One thing you've got to remember, they get diffrerent stuff then we do, they got the D/R Imprezas and maybe a RA gear set would work in that tranny. I would be more then happy if you can prove me wrong.
  5. ?????? Tranny cooler lines???? Is it an automatic??? What year is this beast???
  6. I'll believe that when I see it, I've had both types of trannies apart, they are not that similar.
  7. Hate to burst your bubble, but I don't think the RA gear set (EJ series tranny) will work in a RX (EA series tranny).
  8. My 96 Impreza doesn't have roll pins in the axles. If you look at the VLSD, you'll see that it has stub axles that are held in with a 'C' clip, just like that later axles, not a bolt like the EA series cars. If you had a set of those stub axles, you could use any diff.
  9. I must confess, the rear e-brake that Tex installed was my idea and parts, but since I sold my sedan, I didn't have a car to put them on. Tex figured out how to use the existing e-brake cables, so that part is fairly easy. But bracing the ends of the cables so that there is no flex when you pull the hand brake is the trick. Tex ended up using brackets from the front e-brakes. But I'm telling his story, I'll let him fill in the rest.
  10. It is far easier to find a car that is already turbo'd, there are plenty of EA82T cars out there.
  11. Gee, 10 psi isn't too much for this engine, but....... Do a compression test. Did anyone notice that he said REAR E-BRAKE????
  12. The best way is to find a RX in a wrecking yard, good luck doing that. I have a rule of thumb for doing conversions that I have learned the hard way, estimate what it is going to cost you to do the conversion, then double it, even then it probably won't be enough.
  13. So the the wagon has an up video and a down video, and the BRAT does both at the same time. Looks like fun.
  14. The performance method is to use EA81T pistons, they are slightly higher compression then the EA82T pistons. Many many years ago, I work with a boat maker who used Berkley jet drives, at the time these were pretty much unknown, but they sure worked great. The one downside was they required more power to make them work like the prop driven boats, the plus was we never worried about shallows.
  15. Well, my current daily driver is almost as strong as the new STi, and it only has two door. No, the grin would be much wider if it were a 2dr.
  16. Well, we just got back from the International Car Show in Seattle. While we were there, and at the Subaru area, my wife pointed at the WRX STi and said, if you forget about building the garage, I'll let you buy that. If only it were available in a 2dr model, there wouldn't have been a second thought.
  17. Only 130,000?? Heck, it isn't even broken in yet.
  18. Yep, the mock up was of the B9X, but it was at the showing of the 2005 models in Los Vegas.
  19. Sketch?? They had a full size (running) mock up at the showing of the new Legacy last summer.
  20. Getting a salvage tranny could be getting someone elses trouble. The towing company should pay for a new one, a rebuilt one at least. If they have to put out the money, maybe they won't be so stupid next time. Everytime I have had a Subaru towed, they have flat bedded it. Had to have my Impreza towed just last Tuesday.
  21. Gee Rich, a dealer installed A/C is outboard of the altenator, and a factory is inboard. If the A/C in 85 and 86 were dealer installed options, I guess I was seeing things what I looked at the 85 RX sedan that was for sale up here.
  22. I didn't know you were dreaming!! Anyway, now that your're awake, IT WON'T FIT!!!!!!
