Seattle Area: Where to get POR 15?
Dr. RX replied to carfreak85's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
OK, to answer your question, try Wesco Auto Paint Supply, there is one in Totem Lake and one in Renton, I'm not sure if there is one in Bellevue or not. -

Air suspension for RXs?
Dr. RX replied to RenaissanceMan's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Nope, the RX never came with air suspension. It would be a pain to install and very expensive to purchase, for the price of one shock/strut you can buy all four normal ones. Most people that I know want to get rid of their air suspension. I did on my GL-10. -
dashboard swap......pain in the ass?
Dr. RX replied to the sucker king's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
About the only difference that I can remember is a DL dash versus a GL dash, the two are different looking, but should be interchangeable. What year is the dash coming from, maybe I have the FSM for that year and can scan a copy of the dash wiring diagram, then you can check it against your FSM. Either way, buy the dash, someone here will need it if you can't make it work. -
Have you tried getting ahold of the guy in Australia, here is the link to his post on the board, http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=17327

mounting gauges on A-pillar
Dr. RX replied to The Scooby's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I used the Autometer one for the Impreza on my 86 GL-10 Turbo Sedan, it mounts just like it was make for the car. -
Heck he should pay you for even wanting it.

Why not e-mail that guy in Australia who put an EJ into a Hatchback.

ALL COLORADO RX owners (and others too)
Dr. RX replied to RSM!'s topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
White or black??? Get me the VIN for my databsae. -
Scooby, if you saw injectors then it is NOT a SPFI engine, it is a MPFI engine. the SPFI is a throttle body injected engine, hence the single point injection. Boy that sure looked like a very light metalic blue, common color for an 86. This car could be like my brown 86, it didn't have the tail, but it had everything else, including the correct VIN. So, when are you going to get me the VIN???

Saw a Brat with an EJ engine
Dr. RX replied to All_talk's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Zeno, maybe I'll be like those veterans who were going to sue Kerry if he didn't stop showing pictures with them in them without there permission. By the why, Kerry doesn't show those pictures anymore. Yea, Zeno you and I are the stand outs, especially me!!! -
Actually the EJ series ranges from 1500cc to 2500, they are EJ15, EJ16, EJ18, EJ20, EJ22, and EJ25. The EJ15 and EJ16 were mainly sold in third world countries, and places that taxed cars based on the size of the engine.

*..Changing from digital dash to regular, help..*
Dr. RX replied to bakerman1's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Oh, it's not too hard to change, you just need to change out the dash harness, which means that you have to take the dash completely apart. That is if your car has a dash harness, but that car may have the dash and front body harness combined, in which chase you'll have to change out the complete front body harness. So, are you ready to take that on?? Doesn't fixing or finding another working digital dash sound easier? I only wish that Subaru would have made a short harness that plugged into the main harness so that these could have been switched easily. -
Was this the blue on out front??? I didn't look close at it. Subaru didn't make a SPFI Turbo. If it has a plaque stating that it is 12 of 85, then it is a dealer special car. Sometime dealers created special cars to sell. I believe the Black Diamonds and the convertables are examples of these. Send me the VIN, I'll tell you if it is a RX or not.

Can't remember the name of the collision repair place, but it is on 56th and Washington.

Duh, did I miss something here??? No, EA82T head won't even bolt to that block. I believe I stated that EJ series heads would, I never said the EA series heads would. So if you just got the short block, you'd still have a lot more stuff to get. There was recently a 95 WRX front clip for sale in Tacoma for $2200, that included the engine, tranny, driveline, complete rear suspension, complete front wiring harnesses, the ECU, the radiator, basically everything that you would have needed for the swap. And you want to spend $1300 for just a short block???

Well to a certain extent he was correct, you can not match up a hydraulic clutch tranny on a cable pull type clutch. You also can not install an EJ22T clutch into a cable pull type setup. The bell housing is different, but not where it bolts to the engine, it is different where the clutch lever mechanisum is. These need to be a matched setup, but either will bolt up to any EJ series engine. By the way, the EJ22T clutch is a push type stepup, it pushes the lever forward, which pull the throw out bearing backwards, since the throw out bearing is attached to the fingers of the clutch it pulls them backwards too and that releases the clutch. The cable pull type pull back on the lever whic pushed the throw out bearing against the pressure plate fingers and releases the clutch. Now you can understand why these two can not be mixed.

Where on earth did you get that infromation???? Any EJ series tranny will bolt to an EJ22T engine and any head will bolt to an EJ22T block, but you need to heed what type of deck the engine the heads came off of before you do. What make the EJ22T engine different from all the USDM EJ22s is the fact that it has oil spray nozzles that spray oil on the inside of the pistons to help with cooling. The only difference in the tranny from other USDM EJ22s is that fact that is has a hydraulic clutch, later USDM EJ series cars have that same set up.

WOW all this misinformation I can't believe it. Anyway, to answer your first question, yes, I have installed an EJ series engine into an EA82 series car, apparently you have never heard of UltimateRX. It is a car that I built using the RX as a start and installed an EJ20G engine with a 5 speed tranny into. As for head swapping, yes it can be done, but what is important is not the size of the engine, ie EJ20, EJ22 or EJ25, but what type of deck (the surface between the block and head) that it has. There are three types of decks on EJ series engine, open deck, semi open deck, and closed deck. The heads need to be matched to those type of deck. Note, the heads will bolt onto any type of deck, but the cooling passages will not match. Any open deck head with work on any open deck engine. One of the common swaps is an open deck EJ20G DOHC head to and EJ22T block. In fact that is one of my projects that I have sitting on a back burner right now.

Well the way you have it set up, the lap belt and submarine belt are the only things that is functional, the shoulder harness just holds your body to the seat back. You should anchor the shoulder belts to a rear seat belt anchor point, then they will keep the top part of your body from going forward.
