  1. Here is a link to Corky's book, http://howstuffworks.shopping.com/xMPF-Maximum-Boost--Designing--Testing--and-Installing-Turbocharger-Systems~PD-639725245313
  2. A turbo that is tuned for a 2200cc engine would not be more efficient then a turbo that is tuned for an 1800cc engine. Chances are the turbo would be larger, therefore having more mass to overcome, the exhaust pressure of an 1800cc engine is less then that of a 2200cc engine and would labor more to get the impaler spinning creating greater back pressure on the valve train, and too much back pressure is not good. You need to understand what map the turbo you are using has, and what map you need to get the performance you feel you need. There are several publications out there on turbocharging that will explain this and how to figure out which map is best for what you are looking for. To get the correct turbo for your engine is a lot more science that just swapping other turbos on the see fi they work.
  3. I can't remember the name of the book, Tex has a copy, he should be able to help you there. As for the Mitsu 3000 GT VR4 turbo (I used to have one of these great cars), like you said, they are for 1500cc engines, but that is half again as too large, you need to find a turbo for a 900cc to 1100cc engine. Do a search for turbocharged motorcycles, that may help, or for a company that sells turbo kits for motorcycles. The main thing you need to be concerned with is the A/R ratio of the turbo (read the book). You might find the right size turbo but the A/R will be wrong, so you'll have to change the impaler housing, compressor housings or both to get the correct ratio. Does the engine you are planning to use have the starter in the center or to the driver side? Center would be better, it would give you more room to work with. If it is the center, you can get it far enough away from everything to minimize sheilding.
  4. Sorry I didn't read this earlier. I can't believe all the misinformation that is going on here. Porsche first started out with a single turbo in the race cars, but after two years went to two smaller turbos, not only did they increase the power of the engines, but also increased the top speed of these cars. I don't know whether it had anything to do with it, but I wrote Porsche a letter when I first heard about their single turbo racing program and told them that my research (a single versus twin turbo 327 Chevy) proved better overall performance. I never got an return letter, but two years later (about the right time to develop a new engine) they were racing the twin turbo and kicking butt. First you need to get some books on turbocharging, Corky's book (not me by the way) is a great start, but I don't agree with some of his thoughts (so what else is new). I have over 35 years of experience working with turbocharged cars, when I started, everything was trial and error, there were not books to help out. Remember, the turbo on the EA82 and EA81 was tuned for an 1800cc engine, if you are going to use two, you need ones that are tuned for a 900cc engine (a 1000cc engine would do also). So that is where you need to look. Honda had a turbo 750 bike, I think that one would be a little too small, also a different power curve, it would be tuned for higher RPMs. Heat is not the problem when using a diesel turbo, the problem is that diesels reach their power band at lower RPMs, and therefore the turbos used on them spool quicker, and peak out earlier then needed on a gas engine. Now if you were creating a progressive setup, the diesel (low RPM) turbo would be a great first turbo and a motorcycle (high RPM) turbo a great second one. You also didn't say which car you are putting this in, hopefully an earlier car without a brake booster, or you will have problems with fitting the turbo on the left side. Brake line heat sheilding is going to a major factor when placing the left turbo. I'd like to see picture of the in progress work, maybe I can give you some pointers as you go along.
  5. Try http://1stsubaruparts.com/ they are closer, Auburn, WA. Is you call, ask for Jason, tell him Corky told you to call. Qman is also one of their regualr customers.
  6. Here is a hint, make you bid the most that you are willing to pay for the manuals, it will only show the amount needed for the next higher bid, so your max bid will be in the background to keep the last second guys for out bidding you, unless they bid higher then you max.
  7. You watch, there will be two or three last second bids on those.
  8. Ken, I have two 4WD TURBOs and one 4WD TURBO RX, it is my RX one that has the broken corner, that is the one that I was looking for.
  9. That's ok, I can fix the one I have since I have both pieces. I'm also going to have to remove some small scatches and some over spray off the one that I have.
  10. Meeky, if you have time on your next run, could you get the reflector between the tails lights for my, the one that I have for a RX sedan has a broken corner.
  11. The D/R shifter is different too, I've never seen one like that on an EA82. Yea, you've got to get the tranny and LSD. Man take a day off from work, call in sick, or something, that stuff may not be there next weekend. I know if it was around here it sure wouldn't be, but the the PAP around here are open 7 days a week.
  12. I just get under the tranny and muscle it down and out. If I'm at a wrecking yard I get a rear seat out of one of the cars and let the tranny drop on that. Installing it is the same way, I get under the tranny and lift it up into place. If it doesn't slide in at first, there is plenty of colorful language that fills the air. If you aren't use to doing it this way, I would suggest using a floor jack.
  13. Update on the conversion, yesterday I took a look at the two dashes (yes they are both from turbo cars). The digi dash has a total of 44 wires going to the car, the analog has 42 wires. I looked at the wire diagram and most of the engine wires are the same (although the sensors may be different), but those account for less then half of the wires. Since the rest of the wire are on about 10 different wiring diagrams, it may take awhile to figure out the rest. In the FSM, there is a neat figure the shows where all the wire from the digi dash go, so that will help. Don't expect this to happen over night, this is not a priority project for me.
  14. If you were planning to mail Eric the money, today would be the last day if you want it to get there by the 10th, and you better send it express to make sure.
  15. Well Krissy, that is an endorsement not to go to the Lake Union resturant. The food that I had yesterday was good, but then it's kind of hard to mess up a hamburger. The price was about that same as I would have paid at a place like Red Robin for the same amount of food. Austin, you went to school with fish?? I guess so, they travel in schools. By the way, I think they are fish, but you left out two letters, it should be gillers not gilrs. Maybe I was there on a better day, or they have had a staff change since you were there, or maybe it just that fact that I'm a lot older then you and my taste isn't quite as picky as yours.
  16. With the exception of the few that I know that live in and around Bend, I doubt that many will be driving through there. It could be on the way for those coming up from Reno, but I'll bet they go over to Sacamento and come up I-5. Next time I'm in Sisters, I'll have to look up up.
  17. BlueSoob (aka Amanda), the waitress at the Lynnwood resturant didn't have too much make-up on, infact there were a few that didn't look like that had any make-up on, they all wore white tennis shoes which seemed to match their outfits perfectly. It seemed to be a sports bar atmosphere, several TVs with sport event going on, and a larger screen TV with whatever the main sporting event of interest was playing on it. Overall it was a nice place for lunch, but I don't think I'd take a date there.
  18. I was at the Lynnwood PAP today pulling a tranny, after I finished I call Tex to see if he wanted to go to lunch. There is a Hooters by where he works and since I've never been to one before I though we should go there for lunch. The food was great, but I had a hard time keeping a conversation going with Tex, there were just too many distractions. Nice place, great service, very friendly waitresses, a great place for lunch. Has anyone else been to a Hooters for a meal???
  19. The carb heads are symmetrical, they on either side. Turbo heads will too, but there is a little work involved getting them to work.
  20. Freak, the one is LA is probably with an unlimited budget, and I can't compete with their money. The thing about this event is that the car can not cost more the $2004 to build, I'm sure that I can compete with that.
  21. If it is what he said it is, $600 is a fair price. Offer him less, but be prepared to pay his price. If he needs to get rid of the car, he'll deal with you, if not he may stand solid on the price. Offer $450 and see where it goes from there.
  22. Well, that depends, are you buying or selling?? From your post I'd say you were buying. Has the current owner given you a price??
  23. Jamie, I have a unit that has a hopper on top of the gun, it can be used anywhere, but be prepared for a mess. If you wrap the area in plastic, then step inside, you can retain most of the material. But you will be covered with teh sand or whatever you use.
  24. It would be nice if there were a BOW WOW close enough to make it convenient to go to. I'm not usre, but I think the one in Bellevue closed awhile ago. That would have been the closest to me.
  25. Glad to hear that it is running. Thanks for the kind words.
