  1. Freak, I'll bet you that not everyone and their uncle has a GC8, that is commonly mis-used in the USA as the code for an Impreza, but in reality, that is the code for a WRX (pre-USA model). Most people will know what you are talking about if you use the code GC8, but if you use the correct code, they wouldn't have a clue, that is because people have mis-used the code too long to know the difference. I also posted this subject awhile ago, and no one who responded had the code GC8 on their Impreza.
  2. Yea, with enough money anything can be done, but why??? Like stated here, there are aftermarket stuff that you can use to get the same effect with a lot less cost a trouble.
  3. The rear shocks on an EA82 are similar to your EA81 shocks, no strut tower.
  4. I can't believe his statement about no one calling a Durango a station wagon, then tells us the Jeep Grand Cherokee has the same chassis. I have always considered the Cherokee and Grand Cherokee 4WD station wagons, so by guilt of association, that would make the Durango a station wagon. Then he goes on to say that techincally the BRAT shouldn't be in the class. ??????? So, I guess he wouldn't allow any of the small truck in the class either, like the old Chevy LUV, the Dodge D50, and similar light trucks. The boy need to get out of the competition if he is going to set up the rules.
  5. Again it looks like you haven't been paying attention. I have discussed this very same topic several times here, Tex has even posted a list f parts need for a conversion. As for the rear set up, on an EA82 they use shocks, not struts, there are two bolts into the body, and one bolt at the suspenion, an Impreza uses a strut in the back similar to the struts in the front, so they need a strut tower to bolt to, there isn't such a tower on an EA82. I'm also working on an idea to bolt a complete Impreza front suspension onto an EA82 car. You want to volunteer a car for the prototype??
  6. I hate to tell you this, but there is no crank angle sensor on a 89 GL, that is an EA82 engine and it didn't have a crank angle sensor. As far as I know Subaru didn't have crank angle sensor on any engine until 1990, and then only the EJ series (4 cylinders) and EG series (six cylinders) engines. Sounds like you are not using a Factory Service Manual, but some aftermarket manual that covers many years and many engines, but doesn't separate out the code per engine type.
  7. My GL-10 Turbo 4WD Sedan has the same engine as the RX, I don't have a BOV on it, and I have not had any problems with the turbo. The turbos have a bypass valve in them that are pressure controlled, under normal driving this is good enough. However, if you plan to use your right foot extensively, you might want to go a route similar to Tex and Skip here on the board, and install an intercooler. I think this is where the BOV comes in handy, not to save the turbo, but to save the IC. Most people vent the BOV to the air, I say to vent it just up stream of the turbo intake, this will help lessen any turbo lag on shifts by keeping the turbo spinning.

  9. About 90% of all those things are the same as the Legacy Turbo. I think I have another MAF to trubo pipe I'll give it to you when I give you the good manifold. You flush the PS tank with any parts cleaners. You got to remember, those engine came here in a container after the Pacific Ocean, if the container wis near the top, it got a lot sea spray, and that salt is what caused the oxidation on the engine. I should have the wiring info in about two weeks. Man, you've got to be patient.

  11. The car used to be in Portland, but the guy moved back easy awhile ago. Glad to see a board member ended up with it. I had asked the guy what it would take to put it back to original condition, he wasn't sure, but probably a lot of work since he did alot of mods. The black RXs were built only the last half of 89, they are the rarest of all RXs.
  12. Hey Skip, what is with the trubo in the center of the picture? In the top picture it is dirty and has a small diaphragm for a by pass valve. In the bottom picture it is clean and no diaphragm.
  13. I working on a Legacy this weekend for a friend of Ed's, it really depends upon how much I get done on Saturday, so I can't make a commitment. If I can, I'll show up, but don't count on me for a caravan.

What a laugh, there is a 90 Subaru engine that does have a crank angle sensor, and a cam angle sensor, but the is an EJ22 (possible an EJ18 is Canada), but I doubt that is the engine he is putting in the car because the wiring is so different, a lot more then just one wire. Too bad he hasn't posted a picture yet, that would tell us a lot.

  18. What do you want to know, how it happened, or what you should do now? It would be hard to say why it happened, could have been many things, but I suspect that the last person who removed the nuts, didn't tighten them down far enough. I don't remember even touching them when I had Lewy. As for what you will need to do now is replace the axles, bearings and hubs. Front hubs off any EA81 should work. Get genuine Subaru bearings, and get your axles from Florida (if you haven't already).
  19. Dave, I think you copied one number wrong, it should actually be a letter, but there is enough there for me to tell you that yes it is a RX. You wrote JF2AC5689FE261089, it should be JF2AC56B9FE261089.
  20. Speedbump, if you are talking about the Deschutes Brewery, it is still there, but it is a long way south of where the show will be held. You should be able to get some in at a store in Portland on the way out to Hood River.
  21. Todd, Billy is looking for people to come down to his place and help inventory the parts, then he will have a list. I believe he has donated the parts to USMB (I will get all the decals to hold as a library for reproduction as needed).
  22. The oil pump, water pump and all the front seals (main and cam seals).
