  1. Have you run the engine with the radiator cap off, radiator full and watched for bubbles? If it is a head gasket, there should be bubbles, if there are no bubbles, it MIGHT be the turbo, but I have never seen a turbo water jacket go bad. But that is not saying that it couldn't.
  2. Man, you must be close to Columbia Helicopter. I'd love to get a few of the Sky Cranes to see if I could get one going. That looks like the bone yard for the Sky Cranes that Evergreen has.
  3. Meeky, the 3.90 LSD was an option on the XT6 AWD and is probably the rarest Subaru part around. Bugaru, the only thing you need to know about LSDs is that they are bad for you and you should send every one that you find to me for safe keeping.
  4. I don't remember telling them which vehicle I was using the trip permit for that last time I got one.
  5. Skip, you been smokin wacky tabacy again, where did he state that is was an EJ18T?? I read in his first post that it is "an '84 Turbo with a pushrod 1.8L." I looked at the web site show at the bottom of his first post and didn't see anything about this car.
  6. FOX!!!!!! You forgot to tell him to reinstall the drain plug, now there is oil all over the ground.
  7. I couldn't tell from your response Fox if you knew this, but the axles of the XT6 are totally different at the wheel end then any other Subaru. For my conversion in my RX it was easy because I had a turbo tranny with the 25 splines, so the XT6 axles worked perfectly. But as you probably know, and EA81 series car is narrower that the EA82 series, so you would have make a shorter axle like rguyver did. I'm assuming that he cut two axles, a XT6 and an EA81 in half, took what he needed out of the center, then used thick walled tubing as a sleeve over the two axles and welded both ends.
  8. I guess I'm wondering why you choose a Legacy Turbo radiator, the N/A Legacy has a radiator cap. But I do suspect that if you looked at it long enough that one could figure out how to install the tank (filler, not overflow) as it is on the Legacy. I have gone the other way, and installed a Legacy Turbo engine into a RX and used the RX radiator, after some slight modification to the angle of the input and output tubes. I'm kind of surprized that the Legacy radiator even fits, but it appears that you have made it work, good job. By the way, the air/water IC on the Legacys have a separate water system, it does not use that engine cooling system. The water reservoir is the tank on top of the I/C, the system has it's own pump and radiator.
  9. So, there is an Austin out there, I was afraid he had disappeared off the face of the earth. Actually he called me about a half hour ago.
  10. Brian, you need to get with Jerry (Bratsrus! board name), he lives in Selah. Also Pat (can't remember his board name) who lives in Moxee. Between those two, they should be able to fix you up with what you need and all the help you'll want. Here is a link to Jerry info on the board, http://usmb.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/member.php?s=&action=getinfo&userid=109 Hope that helps.
  11. Gee Freak, you think so???? Maybe I should have used GD's words and said, "suspension type/height". I would think the GD was not talking about how the suspension is hung, but that fact that it is AWD/4WD versus FWD/2WD.
  12. Well, I can say this is how all military commanders would handle it, but as a past company commander, as long as he had called in and explained his situation, and didn't seem to take advantage of the situation, I would have done nothing. I might have welcomed him back and chatted about the problem he had, but no punishment.
  13. Are you looking for new parts or used parts. I have good leads on both, let me know. You might be able to get some parts for one of my projects, so maybe we can trade stuff. E-mail me at Corky
  14. UUMMM, boring, how about two cars that are 4WD and have a 1.8 liter turbo engine, one car an EA82 series sedan, and the other an Audi A4. Same engine size, same 4WD suspension, two totally different cars.
  15. RXs have better weight distribution (weight ratio) then other EA82s????? That's a laugh. There are only a few things that make an EA82 series a RX, and it is hard for me to even think of any of those that would give it better weight distribution (weight ratio). Freak, I don't know of an electronic boost cut that Subaru put on any of these cars, it would have to be after market. Yes the later the model year (newer) the better.
  16. I used to go camping at Lake Isabele, short climb by the old mine, then a little walk to the lake, very beautiful.
  17. I feel I need to set some things straight here, first off, the Hatch Backs never came with EA82 engines in them, they were EA81s all the way to their last year 1989. Like CraigGT stated, the H-6 3.0 is pretty close to the same size as the H-4s, the 3.3 H-6 in the SVXs were longer then the 3.0, but would have the same width, and possibly that same heigth. The biggest parts of converting to an EJ22 would be fabricating a tranny mount (I can explain what needs to be done if you go that way), shortening the driveline, and of course that wiring. The SVX engine could be installed into a hatch, but you would probably have to relocate the radiator to where the spare tire normally goes, which has been done before, and seems to work well. The problem is that the SVX engine is probably the rarest of the engine available.
  18. Well, if it is equality among competitors that you want, that lets create classes like I ran in when I ran SCCA Road Racing. There were many production classes, I ran F Production, if I remember correctly the classes were A through G, in production, the class grouping were mainly based upon engine size. Having a class were you can run just about anything as long as it is considered a SUV is crazy. Like I said, there may as well be not class at all. I'll bet if a XT Forrester ran in the SUV class, they would find some way to eliminate it from that class. What I'm saying is that the rules now allow the running of anything that is a SUV in that class, the wagons and sedan are classified as SUV/MPV, so they have every right to run in that class. I don't see how having a class like the SUV class is putting like performance cars in the same class, especially when a Durango is running with BRATS. I agree that there needs to be some changes, but if this Durango head gets his way, the BRATs will be running in a class were they are not competitive. A RallyCross Manager needs to be impartial, I don't think that Scott has that ability.
  19. So, Ed you are saying that the Forester shouldn't be in that class? Subaru is advertising it as an SUV, but it sure doesn't look and a full size Chevy Blazer/Tahoe or Dodge Darango, it looks more like a station wagon. The turbo version (XT) is said to out perform that WRX in certain situations. What about the Legacy SUS (Sports Utility Sedan)? No, if the rules state SUV/MPV, and the vehicle has factory identification of that status, then it should be legal in that class. If they split that class by engine size, then that Dodges will win one class and the Subarus that other. What I think is crazy is that regardless of class, the fastest times last year were turned in by a 3 cylinder Subaru. Maybe there shouldn't be any classes, just the best time wins. But then all these guys who put out the big bucks of STis and Evos will start bitching when guys show up with cars that they bought for less then the cost of their tires and take the best time of the event. It's too bad that there have to be people who are sore losers and ruin that fun of the sport for others.
  20. I'll bet that anyone who made it to Rieter Pit today, is still thawing out. Man, I'll bet it was really cold up there.
  21. In 89 the RXs did have an automatic option, but Subaru, to the best of my knowledge, never installed a LSD rear diff with an automatic tranny. So that may be the only instance of a RX without a LSD rear diff.
  22. Well I was going to try to be there, but with my wife just getting out of the hospital, I don't think I'll be able to make it. Have fun!!!
  23. The 84 would be a good bet, it could possible have the hydraulic lifter EA81 (1800cc) engine in it. You are in the right neighborhood, there are a few other board members in that area, it might be good for you to get to know one of them, his board name is Qman. Is there any reason why it needs to be a wagon?? What about a Hatchback, they have the same EA81 engine but were available up to the 89 model year.
  24. You need to take the key board off 'cap lock', typing in all caps is equal to yelling on the internet. Sorry I can't help you right now, but if you had a set of Legacy alloys, 15 inch with at least 50% thread left, we might start talking.
  25. I believe your question was, "Is there an easy way...???", the simple answer to that question is, "No!" As you can seen by the answers you have gotten so far, and I believe most of them will work, it is not easy, but it can be done. I use a very long crow bar to counter the breaker bar. Just make sure your fingers are not in between the two.
