  1. Tex, almost all of those aftermarket item for the WRX EJ205 (not T or G) will work on the EJ22T.
  2. Well, it looks like I need to get back to working on my EJ20G into RX 3dr web page again. All this info is great, and I tend to agree with the choice of the EJ22T, that is probably one of the best turbo charged engines that Subaru built. The only thing I would do to that engine is replace the SOHC heads with DOHC heads, preferably off of a 97 to 2000 JDM WRX. ALthough I am not the only one on the board (in the USA) that has attempted this, I do believe that I am the only one here in the USA on the board that has completed it. There are many such conversion in Australia where these engines are alot more available. So, if you would like to discuss it, please send me an e-mail at Corky . I should have read your last post. The second gen EJ25 is basically a first gen with SOHC instead of DOHC, they also seemed to have gotten rid of the piston slap problem that plaged the gen one. The EJ22T came with a 5 speed also.
  3. Here is their web site, http://www.ccrengines.com/ And, yes they do sell just the short block.
  4. That's not a bad price, it is close to what CCR Inc. charges for a short block. But CCR Inc. uses new heads on it's long blocks instead of rebuilding old ones.
  5. Actually Ed you are east of Brier, just head west on 228th, do the little joggle by the creek then up the hill to Brier. You drive through Brier on the way to Austin's house.
  6. Patti, welcome, I'm surprized that Austin and you haven't stopped by, but then I haven't seen much of Austin since he started working at Carter's. I wasn't sure which Matt you were talking about, but now I understand.
  7. Hey Austin, show me where the EJ20 and EJ25 are wider then the EJ22 or EJ18. I have an EJ20, EJ22 and EJ18 at my place if you would like to come over and measure. All of the EJs are narrower then the EA82s and only slightly wider then the EA81s. There are many EJ conversions in Australia, but not many in the USA, and I did one of those. The biggest mechanical headache is the tranny crossmember, you will have to modify a Legacy or XT6 crossmember, the front bolts right in, but that back needs to be narrowed. Like Austin said, you'll need turbo axles for the tranny. Be sure you know the tranny ratio, there are many different ratio for the EJ trannys, 3.90, 4.111, 4.444, 4.154, and I think there is another. Make sure you get a match rear diff. Ah yes, the ECU and wiring, I used an after market HalTech unit that came with a wiring harness for the engine. If you have a donor car, you could replace the entire front wire harness in your car with the one for the EJ series car, then you'd just have to tie in the rear wire harness to the EJ harness. It can be done, it takes time, don't hurry it, think things over before jumping in, and you should come out with a nice rig. But don't ever expect to get out of it what you put into it if you sell it.
  8. DanBob99, the problem with a mobile unit is that it is usually only for 2WD (front or rear), the unit at FAME is a 4WD unit, and that last time I saw Tex's car it was a Fulltime 4WD, and you can run those on a 2WD unit. Tex, baseline??????? Your car?????? NOT!!!!!!!!!!! But if you wanted to see if your mods did any improvement, it would be good to run it before. Just let them not that you are trying to get a baseline for your car and they won't do any tuning. That is what eats up the time. I had them sort out UltimateRXs wiring problem for me, but we didn't get it running well enough to put it on the dyno. That would have been interesting. Witte, I think there is a 4WD dyno somewhere in the Portland area, but it sounds like you are working for a place that has a dyno. Hey do you still have that Legacy 5 speed?? E-mail me if you do.
  9. Have the radiator pressure tested, that will tell you a lot. Is it steam or just evaporating water??
  10. Sorry John, I mis-read Austin's post. I don't know what I was thinking, to think that Andrew would come all the way up to Austin's house to trade cars with Austin. Yea, what the heck was I thinking???
  11. John, I don't think that was Austin, I think it was HondaSucks.
  12. It's not just the dealers, I've gone into parts stores and got the same lack of knowledge. One of my project cars about 10 years ago was putting a V8 into a Corvair. So I go to the part store and ask for a part for the V8. The first thing that ask is, "What car is it in?" To which my reply usually is, "It doesn't matter which car it is in, the engine was in many cars." So they tell me that they can't find the part I'm looking for because the computer need to know which car. So I tell them that it is in a 67 Corvair, so they look it up and tell me that the Corvair never had a V8, to which I reply, "Oh really, do you want to come out and look at one?" So I walk them out to the car, open the engine compartment (by the way, the guy is standing in front of the car waiting to look under the hood) and show them the V8 sitting there. They scratch their heads and can't figure out why the computer is wrong. Another thing that I can't figure out is why a dealer will have a web site, but will not give you web site prices when you stop in at the dealer.
  13. That's cool Zap, I saw a lot of things while on payote, but I never saw any angles, well at least none with wings. Looks like we agree on something else.
  14. I guess you could call me a professional artist since I have sold three of my paintings and one of my sculptures. Haven't really done much lately, I've turned to other artisan crafts, like gold smithing, faceting, and opal cutting.
  15. The best way is to remove the fender, use a forming bag and mallet, then smooth the surface with an english wheel. After i get my garage built, I plan to get an english wheel and a forming bag and several different shaped mallets. But that is still some time off. The front is easy, the rears, it might be better to fab a flare then weld it and cut out rhe old fender.
  16. Alpine Raven, NO RX had AWD, in 1987 the had what is called Fulltime 4WD, but that is not that same as AWD. There is an open diff in the Fulltime 4WD trannys that is lockable, in the AWD trannys there is a viscous limited slip center diff in the tranny. Goatboy, the swap is easy, I've done several myself, and have one to do for a friend soon. But you only swap the center section, you keep the ring and pinion from the 3.90. If you were a little closer, I'd love to show you how, but it's a 3 hour drive from Portland to my place.
  17. The 3.90 is a pretty good sign that you do not have a LSD. For the most part, from the factory, Subaru with LSD's had a 3.70 ratio, here is what the label on a LSD looks like. It is larger then the non-LSD tag.
  18. Yep, that worked. I think I'm still waiting for th video to download.
  19. Bumm, Geocities (aka Yahoo) won't let me view the pics in your first post. Saw the mpeg, looks cool, but looks like a lot of smoke on deceleration on the second lap.
  20. Looking at Warp3's RX leads me to believe that there were no side decals on the RX sedans. Nice ride Warp3, do I have your data for my database??
  21. Thanks Andy, now I have two to update the RX database. Ben, if you go to my web site (see my signature block) and look for the RX spreadsheet, could you e-mail me that information shown there? E-mail to Corky , I have the VIN so you don't need to seen that.
  22. Really nice, can you tell if it has ever been repainted? It looks the original color. There was a guy out here selling his 85 RX sedan that was the same color.
  23. Thanks Ben, for all those concerned, it is a real RX, you can go to my web site and check the VIN if you want, but I know that since it has the 56B combination in the 6th, 7th, and 8th positions of the VIN that it is a RX. I'll have to try and find my 86 dealer broucher, maybe Qman can find his quicker, I seem to remember a small decal on the rear door down low, but I can't remember what it said, I know on my 85 and 86 non-RXs it say 4WD TURBO in red. These decals are no longer availabe for a dealer, I was hopingf to get a set from another board member who bought out a Subaru dealers old parts, but he never came through. I have a source that I could get those decals duplicated if people needed them. Good luck on the spoiler, the original one on mine has two large chucks missing like Skip says happens, I looked a long time before I found one in a wrecking yard and carefully removed it.
  24. TROGDOR, you mean to tell me that you think the Fox would build that car and then just let it sit around? No, he would go out a try to prove the it is everything that he says it is. Those boys with the gum ball machines on the top of their cars would love to bust him again, and with his record, it wouldn't be a pretty sight. So do you see the connection now???
  25. Fox, you just are not understanding, from 85 to 86 the RXs (all sedans) had 5 speed D/R 4WD on-demand trannys, they didn't get Full-time 4WD trannys until 87. The differenece was that the RX (being a turbo) had a ratio of 3.70 and the non-RXs (and non-turbos) had a ratio of 3.90. There arr no center diffs in the 85 or 86 trannys, that didn't come along until 87, with the Full-time 4WD tranny, an 86 RX would have three positions to the level, 2WD (FWD), 4WD Hi, 4WD Low.
