  1. Brian, I said that I didn't know what they called them now, but they are direct decendents of the 360, I believe that in 1981, they were called "Rex", but it only came in a 5 door sedan and a 3 door hatchback (which looks kind of like a wagon).
  2. Like Junkie said, it was imported into the USA from 1967 to 1969, that doesn't mean that they stopped building them and selling them else where. There is a two cylinder Subaru that sells in Japan today, not sure what they call it, but it is still there. I know they sold the 2 cylinder to third world countries long after they stopped selling them in the USA. The chances of it being a USA model are ZERO. Check out this site, http://www.xs4all.nl/~mjs/subaruk.html
  3. Some of you may remember the turbo Brat that I found awhile ago and was purchased by a guy in Florida who came out here and drove it home. When he picked up the car, he couldn't figure out why there wasn't any boost, everything looked good. Upon further inspection, he noticed that one of the exhaust flanges appeared to be leaking, so he took it into an exhasut place. When they pulled the crossover pipe, the only think the was there was the shielding, so they fabricated a new crossover and the boost problem was fixed. I doubt that your's is that bad, but if there is any place where it is leak, the gas will take the lease course of resistence and go out the leak and not the turbo.
  4. I have always used the bolts that came with the ring gear, I believe the threads are the same. I'll have to check on the next one I do, I have one waiting till that person gets a good donor 3.90.
  5. I'm amazed, people have been listening to me, jmr052's comments sound just like what I would have said. Actually if you go to my web site (I need to check and see if it is still up) there is a page with pictures on the conversion.
  6. Yep, it will bolt to any EA82 rear suspension. But as for getting that rear axle bolt off, did you try putting a tire back on and lowering the car to the ground? Was it in a wrecking yard when you tried to take it off? If so, try to find a long rod to put between two of the wheel studs, then try taking the nut off.
  7. Hey Tex, I really like that new hood ornimate that you have on your wagon.
  8. Looks good, but it has the wrong offset for a Subaru. These wheels would stick half way out the wheel well.
  9. No, there is onlt one Subaru authorized Turbo Hatch, and I am in negociations to purchase it.
  10. In UltimateRX, there was no room for a fan larger the 2 inches thick, so I mounted some pusher fans were the A/C condensor used to be. On last check, UltimateRX was still not in top running shape, and too many other project, so it will wait awhile. The fans worked well enough for the times I had the engine running.
  11. Freak, most of the item you mentioned were reasons why not to install an EA82 into an EA81 series car, the EJ series engine is narrower then the EA82 so no cutting is necessary. But Like Shawn stated, the engine is a little longer. But bolting up the EJ into an EA81 series car is not the MAJOR problem, that is getting it wired correctly so that it will run. Also since it is a fuel injected engine, it will need a different, high pressure fuel pump. If you are really serious about doing this, let me know, I do have experience with this type of a conversion.
  12. Here is a little primer on the engine codes EA71 1600 cc OHV, carburated EA81 1800 cc OHV, carberated or turbo charged (83 or 84) EA82 1800 cc SOHC, Carbed, SPFI, MPFI, turbocharged (85 to 94) Then there are the newer engines EJ18 1800 cc SOHC MPFI EJ20 2000 cc DOHC Turbo (WRX engine USA) EJ22 2200 cc SOHC MPFI EJ25 2500 cc DOHC and SOHC MPFI Now for your rig, I don't see the Legacy struts on the front suspension. Doesn't look like an easy conversion to a Subaru engined buggy. I would like to come over a look at the rig after I get back from Canada. Send me a PM or e-mail.
  13. The only convertable Subie that i have seen on e-bay, I did grab the pics, but the car look just like Richie's but was black.
  14. 105K in 5 years, that's not bad, that a little over 20k a year. Heck I put almost 30k on my car every year (most of it freeway driving). I think that the average miles per year is between 15k and 20k, so that isn't too bad, I certainly wouldn't say it was high, just slightly above average. Is it on a salvage title??
  15. I got both the temp guage and pillar pod from Summit, I used that Impreza single guage pod from AutoMeter.
  16. I totally agree with the poll, that front end looked terrible, very un-Subaru like. It's about time that Subaru woke up and started giving the USA all the performance stuff too.
  17. Yes, the EA71 Y pipe is slightly narrower then the EA81. I just pulled mine apart when I installed an EA81 into Lewy.
  18. I don't know, but it is keeping you from getting those parts for me.
  19. Having installed an EJ20G (from a JDM Legacy RS Turbo) into a RX, I can tell you there is plenty of room between the rails for the engine, and since the EJ22 isn't any wider, it should fit just as well. The problem that I had was with the radiator cooling. Solved that by eliminating the A/C and putting two pusher type fans infront of the radiator (it was a twin row), behind the grille.
  20. The database has been revised, please check and see if you RX uis there, if not, PLEASE send me the data. Thanks
  21. Not sure about length, but isn't the 4 speed an electronic auto with it's own control box?? You'd have to figure how to wire that up if you installed the 4 speed.
  22. Hey, anyone out there live around the Montreal area?? I'm going to be in Montreal the week of the 8th on business and might be able to meet with anyone to talk Subies.
  23. Well, as for the water becoming steam, what do you think the exhaust gas temperatures are? I'll bet they are way pass the boiling point of water. Since the water is being injected (sprayed)into the exhaust chamber, I have an idea that it would almost instantly vaporize into steam. If I understand the process correctly, this isn't a full time occurrence, so there is no need for a large water tank, as it would only have an 'on demand' requirement. I believe since it was designed for watercraft that there was no thought of the effect to a cat, since most boats don't need them (yet). But since the water would be at a high temp, but lower then normal, it may cause the cat not to reach the desired temperature to be efficient.
