  1. jacking up both wheels on 1 side of the car should work also, unless you've got LSDs
  2. Did you guys get the "hill-holder"? The return spring seems to be random in its fitment. I suspect mostly they've just fallen off, or forgotten to be refitted over the years. All the springs does is take any possible slack out of the cable, and hence the pedal, otherwise its the springs inside the clutch pressure plate doing all that work.
  3. They might have whilethey still had an industry assembling knock down kits, but I think that went south in the early 90s. After that, their design rules allowed in Japanese cars in directly with no modifications (unlike here), so there market got flooded with cheaper 2nd hand Japanese cars. As the carb models were the very low end with manual windows, mirrors, non-painted bumpers (basically aimed at non 1st world markets), the Japanese wouldn't really accept this... Might be a few, but it'd be rare, and even more so nowadays.
  4. Actually, I'm a little surprised no one from the US had a whinge that you "wrecked" a high roof wagon to help with this project Seeing as they are rare there. It's the same as us Aussies complaining when a US person wrecks a coupe
  5. Actually, no you didn't. JDM doesn't have rear fogs, so are the same as USDM & ADM. It was the same with my 93 JDM Legacy import wagon. It had larger red part, "clear" indicators & then 2 reverse lights. ADM got yellow indicators with 1 reverse light & 1 rear fog.
  6. Oz only got factory EA82T (never got the EA81T) for 3 years because of rallying (Subaru won the Australian rally championship for at least 3 years in a row), and while we can benefit from getting Jap half cuts cos the steering wheel is on the same side, the availability is hard. And there is plenty of headroom. The rally teams got a lot of extra power, but they could also afford to rebuild them regularly because of the decreased reliability. Adding a turbo to a vehicle requires engineering. Modifying the turbo on an existing turbocharged vehicle does not. I know I'm going to need one for putting a spider manifold EA82T into my carb EA82 wagon.
  7. Did you get the centre bearing brackets that are welded into the trans tunnel? It's the only bodyshell difference between 4wd & fwd models. cos FWD models are missing this part. Just get the mcut out of a wreck, clean them up, bolt up to the tailshaft so you can position them & get them welded in (just make sure you have the carpet lifted first, cos you don't want that catching on fire...)
  8. That'll be a 2 pin pink plug with 2 wires. Hence the reason Subaru made the power windows wiring a 3 pin pink plug, but with only 2 wires in it. So it couldn't be plugged into the wrong place. Plus, the door speaker wiring hangs off the dahsboard loom, not the body loom.
  9. That's at the gearstick end. Under the dash its a 4 pin tan plug. Well at least it is on my car Every car I've seen in Aus has this extra bit of wiring in the loom (cos its a spare plug near our wiper motor), even tho we only got single range 4wd in 85 & 86, and never the dual range with centr diff lock... I'll get a pick of the wiring I've got when it's light again. It's not fitted to the car yet.
  10. It's just retro fitting the gauge to a car that just had the light means installing an extra wire through the dahs loom, through the car loom, and through the engine loom... Easier to just use what's there
  11. I think this is exactly what he asked in the first place. Yes, you can do it this way. You may need to drop the bolts that hold the centre bearing to the floor so the shaft moves enough for the rear half to slide out.
  12. A: I just figured this out. Tan plug with 4 wires is for the push button 4wd (or centre diff diff). Red wire is the power to the gearstick switch 2 green wires are for the 2 switched wires from the gearstick black is earth There should be a spare round plug near the left strut tower. Check for continuity on the green wires to this plug. Kind of a bit surprised its on that side of the car. Means the wires go across the firewall. Our plug like that is also on the passenger side, but this is the left side for us, and this spare plug is beside our wiper motor (also on the left side). Those things are switched, but the push button 4wd solenoids are still on the left strut tower
  13. Really? Well I learnt something new today. Always thought that SPFI was just a glorified carb, but I suppose that you can better control the emissions on an EFI car, even if its a basic system. Aus didn't get NA MPFI in the sedans or wagons until 89 (and then only until 90), only in the Vortex (XT) before that. And no turbo MPFI after 87.
  14. It goes between the cone washer & the castle nut. It's good few mm thick too, so it should be obvious (if you know to look for it) if its missing.
  15. My rescued project. Lost most of the pix tho. Interior was completely trashed. Fitted a 96 Legacy airbox cos it's more free flowing. Did have a WRX eninge, trans, brakes fitted at one point. My favourite part is the rare rear rubber spoiler (like those that go on the back of RX sedans) And the colour its getting painted (already done the engine bay) when the WRX engine was fitted.
  16. What Brat is in the background? The tray looks too short Or is it just an illusion cos of the ride height?
  17. My current project was rescued from a wrecking yard. Dented doors & front panels, trashed interior. NO RUST around the windscreen which is why I picked it up. 88 carb 3spd auto Touring wagon. Got the yard to remove the engine & trans and just sell me the rest for a reduced price . Good deal for me. Problem is that was 6 or 7 years ago now and it still ain't finished...
  18. A: I can get a photo of the pink plug for the power windows if you wish. You can see the loom running along the floor. It's separate from the main harness (which is why it's easily added to a car like in this case. As has been said, power windows didn't come on models without power door locks. This is still on the RHS for RHD models. C: It hasn't been clarified whether this car is carb or EFI. If it's carb, then this one plug would be spare because its meant to connect the EFI to the aircon wiring. I was confused about this plug too when I converted my carb 88 to MPFI. Tho all Aus cars had aircon dealer fitted, not factory fitted. The aircon wiring is completely separate and installed at the dealer. Not sure how this was for USDM. If Subaru didn't install the cruise, then they wouldn't have bothered installing the switch above the clutch pedal, nor the 2nd brake switch. Would've just left the rubber plug in the hole instead. I've butchered the loom from an 85 wreck to install the cruise & power windows into a 92 model. So who's to know what previous owners have done...
  19. It's a "Spider" manifold. Looks like replaced the dizzy with an electronic version. And that thing looks so wicked. Even more wicked with an EJ20T... tho it prob weighs almost nothing. I wonder if Loyale lower control arms have been fitted. No reason for the wheels to be that far out to fill the flares (apart from looks). Spacers put on the rear to compensate
  20. If your doing the A/C conversion, don't forget there are some seals inside the box under the dashboard (depending on the model)
  21. Don't be too worried if the pump is continuing to run. The fuel will just circulate around the system. There was a problem with the earthing of the fuel pump on the pre 87 models. Dunno about the later models, Aus never got a turbo post 87
  22. A: not the power windows, that's a 3 pin pink coloured plug with 2 wires, and looks to be already plugged in. Trying to think what it is, but I need to think left side B: got no idea C: is for the A/C system to plug into so that the EFI ECU knows to increase the idle D: not sure if it plugs into anything, but the black/red wire is the EFI system power (comes off the ECU relay) E: was thinking the blower motor also. Rear wiper switch?
  23. Have you installed the other flat spring washer in between the cone washer & the axle nut? I've done this by accident before & it means that the nut bottoms out on the end of the thread before it gets the axle tight.
  24. Yes, I'm using a Push-button 4wd gearstick for my centre diff lock
  25. Can you send me a list of parts please? And like others have said a schematic. And is it configurable for km/h? In fact, make a new thread (and post the link ) I need to do this in my Hyundai as I'm installing the engine, trans & wiring from a later model car that has electronic speedo, and the cluster doesn't fit in the hole in the dash. Wanna ditch the central mount speedo & put the tacho there (where it should be on a race car ). This would be ideal to put over to the side where the tiny tacho normally lives. I know this is prob sacrilege, but my Sub is too good to waste on a track
