I'm sorry for having offended you. But I guess You've taken this too personaly. I just said what I think about subaru's offroad. You are probably right about that I don't have that much experience with offroading at all. And about the hairdresser's car.. I was trying to make a joke. (The hair dresser statement is actualy a quote from wheeler dealers on Discovery channel) I was asking for a reaction and I did get it After all I have stated that I love subaru's on and off road. (this is a subaru forum isn't it?) Btw. I'm not much of a video/picture guy but you can watch a few videos on youtube taken with my cellphone (search for subybrat) Also my post count is only in the 50's So I'm realy not that active on this forum. Anyway I'll leave this post alone. Thanks Martin

Well I'm sure you're right but my experience is that subaru's kick sammy's. And you have to face the facts that a Sammy's is for hairdresser's

I'm sure both cars have it's ups and downs but one thing is sure. Nothing beats driveing pass a samurai in a mud pit with your subaru. On every offroad meet i've been, everyone is baffeled about how great the subaru does in all sorts of terain. I once pulled a 2.5 tonn chevrolet blazer out of the forrest when he had blown his transmission. try that with a sammy. And I do agree about the subaru beeing geared to high when putting on big tires. But people tend to forget that if you let out a lot of air it would actualy be lower geared than on the original tires but with a hole lot of grip. I would build myself a nice subaru with 6" lift put in a ej22 and 29" superswampers. Then see how the sammy does it compared to the subaru.

The r180 does look simular to the stock subaru diff as long as we can get the axles to fit this does look doable..

Is it possible to convert a r200 diff to the standard 5mt 3.9 gearing?

Hey I've been thinking. The r180 differential does have some aftermarket stuff for it included arb lockers. Is it possible to use one of those in a subaru configuration?? I was thinking mounting a t-case on my brat with 2 r180 differentials with lockers in both.. Is this possible or have I missed something??

well I will give this a shot. I do know that the signal has to be square wave. .. Untill I figure this out I will wire in a switch in place of the soon to come pwm

I know for sure that I have the us tranny style with the clutch pack. I know this because I put it there.. And yes I have an electronics degree

Well maby that would work... simple is always better. So if I run a wire to the solenoid and feed it with 12v it should split 50/50 by locking up those transfer clutches? Thanks

Hey I have this svx with an automatic 4eat in it. My problem is that my svx is an euro style and the transmission is a US one.. those differences makes the centerdiff not engage the way I want. What I want is to have a device to controll this diff manualy with a potmeter or something so that when the road get iced up I can adjust the power to the rear. Now I do know electronics and I can build pretty much whatever I want.. The question is what do I want? Does the solenoid in the diff get a square pattern or a wave pattern signal? How many volts are the signal? If I can get some answers to this I can build a controller to adjust the center diff.

I was running the stock ea82t fuel pump with the ej20g. Found out that the pump didn't hold up starving the car at high rpm's and the car actualy did run bether when I mounted the walbro 255.

I had 29x10.5x15 tires on my brat with a 6 inch lift

Those tires are realy good on about every surface exept tarmac!! About the gearing I did have those exact tires on my brat with a 6" lift.. The gearing is a bit high but if you let a lot of air out of them (I was running the offroad with less than 10psi) the car will perform realy good as the gearing will be bether and the footprint of the tires wil be huge. Well I've come to this 1500dollars is a lot for suspention.. even for a good suspention. Now I did write that I wanted "killer suspention" and i still want that. But by browsing tein's webpages I found that they are making another cheaper kit without dampening controll. And it "only" costs around 800$ Mye question is. Is it good value for money to buy the flex system with the 16 modes of dampning adjustments or am I going to be satisfied with the basic system. I don't want to buy the basic system to 800dollars and then regret not buying the flex system witch is 1500dollars

Dave Is the edfc up and running?? Is it worth the extra costs?? The only thing that worries me with this setup is that with the edfc you have to lower the upper mount in the rear. My car is almost due to inspection and when they see "home made" solutions like that they won't aprove it. And frankly my car is already pretty custom and hard to get through. The "rednecked" mount in the rear would only add one extra nail in the coffin

Hey I have the following setup: 1985 subaru xt turbo ej20g engine (on 22psi boost) legacy gearbox autronic stand alone ecu front mount intercooler legacy front suspention (5 lug) xt6 rear suspention el cheepo legacy coilover kit +++ My problem is that i hate my current suspention setup.. In the rear I use the standard xt truts with the cheep (e-bay) legacy coilover kit and in the front I use legacy struts with the same kit. The car is lower than original with this setup but the car is way to stiff with no traction when the road get's rugh. One bump in the road and I loose traction. I belive that the cheep coiloverkit is too ehh cheep adn is also made for a much heavyer car. My car is a "killer" when running drag races and outperform most other cars on that kind of event but add one bumpy turn and I loose bigtime. Now what I need is some "killer" suspention to go with the rest of the car. I was thinking to go with a spax rsx (www.spax.co.uk) fully adjustable suspention in the front (where I can impreza/legacy stuff) But in the rear I'm stuck. Could I use the impreza suspention there too perhaps with some modifications??? In that case how?? I'm open for sugestions as I know this must have been tried before Thanks

I have the same ones on my ej20g xt. (They are on legacy spindels) Those brakes are realy good brakes compared to the stock ones.

I'm also thinking about ignition. On the ea82t there's an distribuitor but on the ej22t there's multiple coil's In my mind the distribuitor is betther especialy if I want to run the megasquirt. Does anyone of you guys have an torque chart for the 2 engines up trough the power band??

I currently have an Subaru Brat (1989) with an 6" lift and 29" superswampers. The car handles great offroad but it lacks power in the steep hills. Therefore I need a power uppgrade. I'm no stranger to swapping engines in a Subaru. I have installed an ej20t with drivetrain and everything into an xt turbo (needless to say.. it runs great) After that swap I realized that I have an spear engine (ea82t) that i have previously (1 year ago) rebuilt with forged piston's and new seals and bearings all round. I also have an megasquirt injection system that I've previously built for this engine I've been reading alot about the swap from an ea81 to an ej22 and I understand that this is the way to go if you want low rpm torqe. Below is an hp/torqe chart for the engines It doesn't seem to be that much difference at 2400ish rpm. But what's important to me is how they behave around 1000-1500rpm. ej22: 130@5600 137@2400 ea82t: 111@4800 134@2800 Does the turbo on the ea82t flow anything around 2400rpm at all?? If I go with the already available ea82t will it help me in any way in the hills?

Coolant sensor should be under the inntake on the passenger side. I would plumb it into the heater hose as sugested.
