You can probably retap them to the original size. Use kerosene as your cutting oil, make sure the tap is straight in, do it very slowly, and clean up any shavings thoroughly when you're done. -
All EJ 4cyl engines now use the same filter, the smaller one, 15208AA100. RallyKeith, it doesn't matter whether his 06 OB is turbo or not. All new EJ253's have the "equal-length" header setup, which wraps around the front of the engine, similar to the turbo headers... instead of Y-ing off behind the engine like the old nonturbo exhausts did. So yeah, it will be a little bit tight. But I never try to take a filter off without a cup wrench. I have the AmPro one at home that fits the factory filter, I'll try to remember to get the number off of it when I get home.

Yes, please. If you want rivalry, get a Mustang or Camaro/Firebird and argue with the group opposite of what you have, which car is a bigger POS. The EJ engines are better than the EA engines, because of this thing called technological advancement. More reliable, more refined, more powerful, less emissions, the whole shebang. Do I hate EA cars? Well, why don't you look at my list of cars in the upper right hand corner of my post. I have two EA cars and one EJ car. I'm a fan of SUBARUS. That's right, I like WRXs and STis. I like Foresters, I like Bajas. I'd kill for a Legacy Spec-B. But, I also like Brats, I also like hatches, I also like Justies (although I have virtually no experience with them), I like 360s, I like Star/FF1s. And it is one of my dreams for Subarus to be recognized for their achievements in days gone by, just as much as for their recent ones. Anyway, [/soapbox], and [/hijack]. -

79 brochure suggests that all 4WD wagons were GLs, as DL wagons were all FWD. Nice score!

Personally, I think the Datsun will win no matter what. They had almost 100hp stock. I don't remember what car you have shift? Either way, if you're still gonna try, put high-octane gas in it, richen the fuel mixture up a bit, and advance the timing until it pings. It's easier to get a few extra HP out of these old mechanically-ran cars than the new computerized stuff. Also, just make sure the engine is tuned up. Plugs, wires, filters, you know the drill.

Major f'ing +1 on no screw extractors. The chances of you breaking them off are 99.99999992673%, and once you do, that's it, you can't drill into it or any other fancy stuff. Unfortunately, NorthWet also has a good point about the fragment being corroded into the head. I've ruined bolt heads trying to get them out, and then I ended up Dremelling the head off, separating the two parts, and screwing the fragment right out. In that case, it was the bolt head that was corroded onto the flat surface, not the threads. But if it's the threads themselves that are corroded, then it's going to be just as difficult for you to break it loose as it would have been if the bolt had remained intact. Tread lightly. Lots of PB Blaster, lots of PB Blaster. -

You have an overhead cam engine, and those are the only heads that will work. Spiffy got the gen marks right, try to get GenIII heads to reduce the chance of this happening again. If you want, just do 90-94 for the years. -
Some people definitely prefer the bugeye over anything else. To a point, I agree, because I still miss the deep-dish fogs in the bugeye. Some people, like me, prefer the 04-05 design over any other GD/GG Impreza. I think it looks the most Subaru-ish. And yes, some people prefer the Edsel nose. I can see how everything looks better, the headlights, the bumper. The grill still ruins it for me though. And then some people prefer the GC/GF/GM Impreza, which ultimately, I do. But the fact of the matter is, Subaru is a company, in business to make money just like anyone else, and sales figures talk, so whatever they have to do to make the MOST people happy, that's what they're going to do.

If you're good with your hands, you could do a couple things: 1) Try to get a pair of vise-grips or a good set of pliers and just try to back the remainder of the bolt out. A 1/4" isn't very much, so vise-grips might work better. However, if this doesn't work, don't keep messing with it and tearing the remainder of the bolt up worse... 2) coz you can Dremel a slit in the top of the remainder of the bolt, large enough for the head of a flathead screwdriver to fit in, and try backing it out that way. Edit: Just like uncoolperson just said Always try one of these methods to unscrew the broken bolt naturally, before you start drilling and tapping. -
Subaru does indeed appear to be ditching the Edsel nose. The 08 Impreza drawing does not have it. While the Edsel-nose cars are doing well here in the U.S. (God knows why ), the U.S. isn't the only market. If the cars don't sell in Europe or Japan, then the designers have to change it again, and that automatically means the U.S. models change with it. That's exactly what happened to the bugeye Impreza. We loved it, probably because we finally had a performance Subaru. But the other markets didn't like it, and weren't buying it. So Subaru went to the 04-05 design. Then they changed it again and tried to fix what wasn't broke But changing back makes me a very happy panda That Forester is just a photochop.

All boxer engines are balanced. Period. Boxer engines and inline-6 engines are the only engines that are inherently balanced by design. That's one of the major reasons why BMW sticks to inline 6's, and Porsche and Subaru stick to boxer engines. But only Subaru is cool enough to use boxer engines across their entire line XT6's aren't 14 or even 15-second cars, although I like your enthusiasm . They're similar in performance to a 1st-gen NA Legacy, probably a little bit faster, so expect high 8-sec 0-60's and high 17-sec quarters. Mike gave the correct engine specs, but www.cars101.com is always your friend if you need more
