Is it just me...
DerFahrer replied to GoldDiggerRoo's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Having not even driven my 79 yet, I can't attest to its power But... the FSM says the torque is only like 80 ft-lbs or something, BUT it peaks at 2500rpm!! That is a thing of beauty, and that can only come from a 2-valve, single-cam, pushrod design. Doesn't do jack for power, but it allows for a lot of torque. My XT, as well as most all EA engines, are the same way. -
76 DL Sedan : Nice
DerFahrer replied to bryanthompson's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
I would pay $1800 for that... If I had $1800, and if I had a way to get the car down here, and if I had a place for it once it got here :-\ -

Subaru Rex - Parts Wanted
DerFahrer replied to Carmen's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Actually, that is essentially our Justy... Your headlights are different, but the platform looks the same. What are the 4th and 5th digits of your VIN number? Still though, our Justy only had a 1.2 inline-three. Yours is a 600cc engine, which we never got at all. -
Subaru Rex - Parts Wanted
DerFahrer replied to Carmen's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
As Kostamojen said, no US dealer will have parts specifically for a Rex, unless it was the newer Rex that IS the same as the Justy. Yours looks similar to this right? -
As long as it has no rust on it, I would say it's worth close to what you're asking...
-
Is it a circular piece of rubber with 4 holes in it? Right before the column shaft enters the rack?
-
Consider yourself lucky to have even seen one. Loyale Turbos are rare enough, a 3-door even more so.
-
I've never heard the term rag joint before... Is it the joint in the steering column, the one that allows the column to bend down right before it goes into the rack? If so, you're in luck, because that joint (usually called a universal joint, like the ones in a driveshaft) is still available from the dealer, part number 731037160, list price is $145.20. 3 in the country at the time of this posting.

Pics of my new Brat
DerFahrer replied to GoldDiggerRoo's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Looks like the only place with any significant rust is the tailgate... Still looks cool, and I feel uncomfortable admitting it, but I like that color -
Nothing wrong with being excited and wanting to share it with others. Looks very nice!

We're just mad at you coz you keep scoring all these NOS parts

Autocrossing the Loyale this weekend... tips?
DerFahrer replied to Syonyk's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Like NorthWet said, don't worry about not having power. In fact, the fact that EA82's are all-torque and no-power could make them a lot more formidable on an autoX course than most might think. Where WRX's are stumbling off-boost, you're pulling forward with authority. The problem is the pronounced understeer and the nonexistant suspension options. I know you don't have time this time around, but if you plan on competing with the car in the future, install a rear swaybar from a car with air ride, like my XT. The air ride cars have the thickest swaybars, and if you put a thick rear swaybar where there used to be none, you will have a much sportier-driving car right off the bat -
Whoa... information overload!! Did some browsing through the model information for much of the Subaru line... There are also EJ222's and EJ223's, as well as EJ252's, and EJ259's. Once I recover from the meltdown , I'll try to see what car has what. Oh, and the 1000 never made it over to the US. It was in the JDM FF1. So that's probably why you can't get any info on it.

Good find Kosta... In that case, that also means that the STi exhaust hangers will work, part number ST440314SS000. They're stiffer than the stock ones, which means more NVH from your exhaust, but they should also last longer
-
I see a few errors, and one I'm not sure about. First off, are you sure the 360 motor is an EA designation? The 360 engine has virtually NOTHING in common with any boxer engine. And where's the 1000 engine? The Impreza 1.8 is an EJ18, not an EA18. If you want to get technical, it's an EJ18E. The SVX is technically an EG33D. The WRX 2.0 in America is the EJ205. The EJ207 is the JDM STi engine. There is no EZ30R. All 3.0 6cyls are EZ30D. There's a few HP and compression anomalies too, but I'll try to look those up later. That's all I can confirm at the moment. I might find more stuff out later.
