I had an 8mm set several years ago on my Legacy, but like the n00b I was back then, I didn't install the #4 one correctly. The contact on the coilpack end hit the lip of the coilpack contact point, and slid back into the boot. So for around 6 months, that wire was arcing from the coilpack. It messed up my coilpack pretty bad, but it didn't affect the wire's contact. I ended up selling the wires. So be forewarned, they're a little more tricky to install than other wires. Like Hodaka said, others have had problems too. But if you pay attention to what you're doing, you should be fine. I may do another set in the future, but they are something like $60-70 a set, so I may just wait until I need a tune-up really badly and I can justify spending that much money on them.

Maybe a good deal on a 79 brat!

The front grill is gonna be hard to find in good condition, but if it has a title for $300, I would do it... ... if I weren't nearly 1000 miles away, and didn't already have 3 other Soobs -

Hmm, does he have a title? -
Yeah, where do you keep finding these cars Bryan? If you don't tell us, we will be forced to kill you. I would definitely do it and not look back. It will keep Lemony company

Finally got my camera to spit its pics out, so here's a pic I took that night of the car sitting in my driveway. I'd seriously be willing to wager that this is one of the ONLY pics taken somewhere besides a dealership, where there is one of the oldest Subarus and one of the newest Subarus together: Oh, and I think I found out why the car was hesitating like it was... I found out the company has been using 89 octane gas in it

You shouldn't need to have an alignment done after doing only the rears. You can't change any of the suspension geometry just by doing rear struts. The fronts, yes, you have to remove the camber bolts to do the front struts, and unless you're REALLY good with eyeballing them back into place like me , you'll need to have an alignment shop set the camber back to spec.

I have the 76-79 brochures, and I don't see anything specifically called a STD or Standard in any of them. Just DL's for the basic models. I think the black trim turn signals are a 78-only thing, and I think the 78's are black trim only! The 76-77 models all have the round headlights with the signals in the grill, as we know, but the 78 brochure I have shows all models having the black trim turn signals, and none of the 79 models have it. I also checked the 80-81 Brat and there's no black trim signals on those either. My camera isn't cooperating with my computer right now, but I'm gonna take a picture of my 78 brochure anyway, and see if I can get CVS or somebody to get the pics out of my camera and burn them on a CD.

I was also gonna say an airflow meter. Try a JY one and see if it helps. Do you have a Check Engine Light? -

w00t! I never thought I'd see that car on this board again! -
+1. If you bolt a turbo onto your 2.5i, blow the engine, and try to get it covered under warranty, Subaru will ask for the old engine back, and they will tear it down to determine the cause of failure. They will be able to tell what you did to it, and then likely deny your claim and make you pay for the new engine, and that is entirely out of your service advisor's hands, no matter how well you know him or her. If you want boost, trade your 2.5i in for a WRX, get ready to pay for a little extra insurance, and have fun the proper and honest way.

It's not that hard to get a conclusive report on whether the HG's are truly blown. Have the coolant "sniffed," that is, tested for hydrocarbons (exhaust particles). If there are hydrocarbons in your coolant, then the HG's are definitely, without a doubt, blown. The work should not cost $4000, at all. Just because the HG's are blown does not mean you need a new shortblock. You can have just the HG's replaced right by a professional who knows Subarus for $1500. The engine could be good for another 200k miles. Do the clutch when it goes out. If you can step on the gas in 3rd, 4th, or 5th gear without it slipping, it's fine. Brakes, I would do those ASAP. That's a safety issue, don't wait on that.

Superlite Wheels, set of 4-15x6, 4x140 Aluminum

Here's the picture from the USMB wheels reference page. These are the right ones, right Terry? -
Haha, I can't help but agree with you... As cute as the 360 looks, I'd rather have the Brat for some reason. Maybe it's because Brats in that good of condition are almost harder to come by than 360's in that good of condition

Sneak Peak : Its 1978 Again
DerFahrer replied to bryanthompson's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
My brochures going back to 76 specifically say all models have front disc brakes, so yes your 79, and my 79, have front discs. Paul says, and some others have said it too, that the FF1 (what you referred to as the Star) had inboard-mounted drum brakes, meaning they were mounted inside of the axles, on the transmission I'm guessing. The early Gen1's (72-75) I want to say had outboard-mounted drums. If Paul doesn't respond first, I'll check tomorrow. Can't wait to see the pics Bryan! -

I might be interested in these in a few months... They're called Superlites, what do they weigh per wheel?
