How do I get the steering wheel off of my justy?
DerFahrer replied to djkindt's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
What year Justy is it? There are a number of screws holding it on, if you tell me the year I can help you find them all. You don't necessarily HAVE to use a steering wheel puller to remove the wheel from the column. I took my Legacy's steering wheel off (which had not moved in 152k miles) by just removing the nut and shaking it a bit. -
WJM is at it again...N/A EA82
DerFahrer replied to WJM's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Don't forget the ign system. I don't know if a stock EA82 disty is ready to operate at 8k rpm. Besides, SOHC and 2-valve-per-cylinder isn't exactly a high-revving design. -
EA71 rebuild or replacment questions

Why do you say it's near the end of its life? -
If you don't know who originally did that song, you need to be shot! That vid makes me so jealous. I can't wait to get mine running!

Are you still ordering them based on merit? I'm still up for it, I just can't spare the cash right this instant... I'll definitely have the money for you early next month. -
Alright, time to throw mine in here: 1979 GL 4WD 1600 EA71 wagon. - Accelerator pedal - Gearshift knob and/or 4WD selector knob (black) - Trim around interior door handles (blue) - Driver's window crank That's all at the moment. I'll think of something else and add to this of course. Thanks in advance!!

Same color as mine too!! Yours has less rust though :-\ -
Get this: I didn't see this the first time, but the catalogue says for the V/R... "Includes Fuel Pump Relay Assy" like Todd said... I think that answers my question
-
I just checked the SOA V/R part number and it's no good So what I'm gonna try to do is see if I can find a solenoid or something that will pulsate the +12v current from the battery, and then hotwire it straight to the battery, so the fuel pump will operate and I can have the car running. Then I can check voltage and all that fun stuff. If that doesn't happen, I'll just take the V/R off and have it tested. Thanks man! Also, if you come across another EA71 tranny, lemme know!

If I see a Standard hatch with round headlights, it's usually an older one, so yeah, yours is slightly rare. But I live in FL, where seeing a Subaru is rare enough as it is :-\ Someone in the PNW might see 5 late-model Standard hatchbacks a day...

Ahh yes, I didn't think about the oil pressure switch. Regardless, there is no coolant sensor anywhere near the front of the engine. Are you saying you want to override the stock sensor's control of the electric fan so you can wire up your own sensor to control your aftermarket fan independently? You can do it, but you might have to wire in a resistor or something into your ECU to make it think that it's doing something with that fan signal, or you'll likely throw a CEL.

Okay, I did some searching, and the only relation I can find between "Subaru Legacy" and "Sapporo" is in Russia, so if your Legacy has a Sapporo designation (the only Sapporo anything we got in the States was a Plymouth Sapporo which was a Mitsubishi rebadge), I'd say it's more than likely Russian instead of Japanese. Setright is correct, Japan never got an EJ22 except the EJ22G found in the Impreza 22B.

So I found a place here locally in town who specializes in alternators and starters and electrical parts in general. I was actually delivering a Mazda part to them and decided to ask. Their computer showed one alternator in stock for a 79 (!), and they even had a picture in their system, which is definitely the right one (internal diode). They even said they could likely find a V/R too, not to mention that they'd gladly test both. If I get some time, I might take my old stuff off and have them test it to see if they're good. There might be hope!

This has nothing to do with coolant, that's your crank angle sensor. This is the coolant temp sensor that your ECU uses to do things like adjust the A/F ratio, idle, and turn your fan on. I believe this is the one you're looking for. This is a coolant temp sensor also, but only for the gauge in your dash.
