  1. It is impossible for the spark plugs to go straight through the top of the cylinder head on ANY EJ22 except the 22B. The reason for this is that there's a cam in the way The DOHC engines have the spark plugs going straight through the heads, right in between the two cams. I THINK (I don't know for sure, but I THINK) that the 97-up EJ22's have the spark plugs sitting on the top sides of the heads, but they are going through the upper part of the valve covers. The old EJ22's have them just above the valve covers.
  2. Describe in detail what's happening. I mentioned 90-94 Legacies because damn near every single one of them have the infamous door-lock problem. My Legacy, for example: Any passenger other than myself has to hold their door lock open, while pulling the handle, in order to get out. Otherwise it will lock immediately. I'm still not 100% sure why it does this; I've yet to get around to fixing mine. But there is a plastic clip somewhere that is doomed to break, and that's what happens when it does. Legacy777 has fixed his I believe, hopefully he'll chime in and say exactly what it is.
  3. One such incident isn't anything to worry about. Pushing your car to its limits in general is just like alcohol: it's fine in moderation As long as you don't run it to redline every time you shift for the next 1000 miles, or worse yet, take that highway trip absolutely nonstop before you hit 1000 miles, you'll be fine.
  4. What type of Subaru are we dealing with here? I'll bet a dollar it's a 90-94 Legacy...
  5. The only way I would consider owning one would be... ... if someone could convince me that EVERY single thing from the 04-05 Impreza will fit. Bumper, headlights, fenders, grill (obviously), tallights, etc. Then again, I don't even want to give a statistic to Subaru for selling an 06 Impreza. I still want it to be a failure in the marketplace so Subaru will wake up and change it back. Kinda like the bugeye. So nevermind, I still refuse to own one. I just hope I can get my hands on a new Legacy or Forester before they receive the same treatment.
  6. How do you know it's DEFINITELY non-interference Ed? Did you buy it with a broken timing belt or something?
  7. Hang on a second people. The EG33 is technically an interference engine, like all DOHC Subarus. But the EG33 is the only Subaru motor that had one cam gear-driven off the other. So the gear teeth would have to shear off or somehow skip, but in that .001%-chance of that happening, you would have engine damage. Just had to point that out I coulda told you that though Midwst. I have the EndWrench article saying that.
  8. I could make a "face" comment about these grills too, but it would have a blatant sexual connotation:rolleyes:
  9. Coincidence? I think not. And I'm sure I'll feel the same way about them when I see them in person. I didn't change my opinion about the Tribeca.
  10. I think the no-oil thing is complete BS. Those wheels have to be lubricated, and the engine output system (the coupling arm, arm brace and output shaft) will need lubrication too. Especially since this engine will generate massive amounts of heat, due to the fact that it's doing 4 times as much work in one revolution as a piston engine, and don't forget the power that this thing could make. The age-old saying still stands though: If you can't make it for the common man, it will never be successful.
  11. I'd love to have a hatch too. But of course, this one's about 3000 miles from me
  12. There are definitely more than two XT's in FL. Simply for the fact that I have one, there is another XT 4cyl running around in Orlando (albeit in equally terrible condition), and then there's Manny (avatar382) in Miami with his monster XT. Then there are XT6's and there are many more of those. At one time, austinXT6 who runs the aforementioned xt6.net had THREE of them! Anyway, welcome to the site and definitely check out xt6.net for tons of info. You can use some GL/DL/Loyale stuff on your XT as they're based on the same platform, and there is a junkyard in Tampa that's literally a few football fields, and the last time I was there I saw about 4 or 5 old-school Soobies. I'll try to see if I can get the exact name of it. But yeah, glad to see another FL Soobie person, especially an XT!
  13. From the brochure information I have, 90-92 Legacy LS wagons with 4WD and auto had air suspension as an option, and in 94, they were available on LS wagons, LSi wagons and Outdoor wagons. I don't have any info for 93.
  14. I do have to point out that you're putting words in my mouth here as I said most, not all. On a very rare occasion, I do see some people of wealth who still have the enthusiasm to buy such cars because of how enjoyable they are to drive, not how much they can show off to their neighbors. But the latter point still applies in most cases. I'm glad you live in such an area, because this is entirely UNTRUE in mine. 90% of the WRX/STi crowd in my area have no idea what Subaru made before the WRX and they couldn't care less. I refuse to attend local Subaru meets anymore because I'm flat out ignored. What I still have yet to receive in all this is a GOOD reason for Subaru wanting to do this. Subaru has never been in better shape than they are now, just look at the current lineup and sales figures. The WRX completely transformed Subaru in this country, and upscale luxury had nothing to do with it. I don't know who in FHI or SOA is so greedy, but I hope they get canned. As the saying goes: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!!!
  15. I had my grandfather's 93 Legacy wagon flushed at Aamco at 114k after taking it through treacherous moutain roads earlier this summer. So far everything's been working fine, but I think that's the last time I'll flush it.
  16. Isn't this the honest-to-God truth??? I like Subaru because they AREN'T upmarket. I honestly don't like upmarket cars, because most upmarket cars are bland and boring, built solely for the interest of profit and not enthusiasm, and most people that drive them are rich poseur @$$holes. If Subaru suceeds in going upmarket, this demographic that I just described will now apply to Subaru when it didn't before, and I feel that the die-hard Subaru fans who loved them for their economy and durability will be left out in the cold.
  17. Exactly the type of review I was expecting to see. The company that defies convention, finally gives into it... and does a poor job too.
  18. Same at my dealer. They like the interior and the fit n' finish, but can't stand the front end. The ones I saw them get in the first day are mostly still there and haven't moved. I hope it is a horrific marketplace failure and is killed for 07. I hope the Impreza sales drop off considerably for 06 too.
  19. Yes it can. But I'm sure most of us are not strong enough to break the crank bolt by hand . That's a pretty beefy bolt...
  20. This is an excellent point. I have used this premise to stop quickly several times in my non-ABS cars. However, do understand that your brakes are MUCH more powerful than your engine, and you can actually stall your engine and lock up your wheels not only with the brakes, but with the drivetrain too. Been there, done that, got the T-shirt :-\
  21. Red is technically supposed to be heated to something in the neighborhood of 500º before it will let go. I don't use Loctite, I just torque it down super-extra-tight...
  22. Good thing you didn't have to do all FOUR like me! http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic.php?t=21223
  23. Must be nice, about one in every 100 cars I see is a Subaru
