  1. I pick Tool. It's great rock that allows you to do other things and just let the CD play. Plus the name fits I could also listen to some Disturbed, Korn, Sevendust, Godsmack, etc. etc.
  2. tailgatewagon, I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. The Outback is not turbo unless it's an XT, and if it is turbo, it IS the detuned STi motor. In fact, any 2.5 turbo in Subaru's lineup is the detuned STi motor. They are all the EJ257 block and they all have the AVCS DOHC heads.
  3. Better not let THAWA see this argument I prefer the manual AWD because it's always working when you need it (and coz I prefer manual anyway), but the auto AWD can probably offer slightly better gas mileage, and can be turned into 100% FWD for towing purposes...
  4. It depends on what you want. If you want to feel the wonderful boost throwing you back in your seat when you mash the gas and are willing to put up with the slight turbo lag that it has at about 2000-2500rpm (like all turbocharged engines), and want the extra 31 ft-lbs of torque, go with the turbo 4. If you want your torque NOW regardless of engine rpm, or just like the idea of a flat-6, or what have you, and you're willing to settle for 219 ft-lbs of torque as opposed to the turbo 4's 250 ft-lbs, then go with the flat-6...
  5. WRX clutch won't work cookie. Subaru hydro clutches use a push-type clutch, while Subaru cable clutches use a pull-type. The pressure plates are entirely different.
  6. Not only am I not surprised that it's been wrecked before, but I'm sure the engine and transmission have seen plenty of abuse. I would never buy a used WRX/STi for myself, as you can bet money they've been hammered on. If it's a salvage title, I wouldn't pay more than $10k for it.
  7. I can personally attest that getting an exhaust off, say a BD/BG Legacy (95-99), might be worthwhile. Just stick with the right body style, sedan or wagon. I have a 98 Legacy GT exhaust (midpipe and muffler) that I bolted up to my 91 Legacy sedan with no modifications whatsoever.
  8. Looks like that forum didn't last very long huh? Try the link now
  9. I had a boot strap come loose off one of my cvaxles.com axles and since they're so close to me, they had a replacement on my doorstep the next day, no questions asked.
  10. I lust after old forgotten rally cars: Mazda 323 GTX, Toyota Celica All-Trac Turbo, Mitsubishi Galant VR-4, etc. etc. I'd also like to have a 91-94 Nissan Sentra SE-R sometime, as well as a Starion/Conquest. Add a Porsche 944 Turbo and a BMW 318is in there somewhere and that will be a nice collection
  11. I honestly don't see how. You can drop a tranny with a floor jack, you need a cherry-picker to pull the engine. You unplug about 4 wires dropping the tranny, you practically unplug the whole wiring harness pulling the engine. Then think of all the stuff you have to remove off the engine: power steering pump, A/C, etc. etc.
  12. Right, Subaru actually makes a special tool that goes in place of the pitch-stop mount, and it holds the engine at a certain angle for removal of the transmission. You need to play with both the jack under the engine and the jack under the transmission until they are both holding the engine and transmission at the proper angle. Once you do that, the input shaft should slide right into the clutch disc. Once you can put the two nuts on the bottom studs on the engine, you should be able to just tighten the two together...
  13. Really, if you have the grey connector, you should replace it regardless. If yours is cracked (which doesn't surprise me), then you should definitely replace it. The white one is updated to be more resistant to cracking, and is also not oversensitive as the grey one is. Make sure when you change it that you have a long magnet grabber/reacher thingy, as you will most likely drop the bolt down on the block where you can't reach it any other way.
  14. Agreed with Setright. Just make sure the sensor you're getting has a white connector instead of the grey connector your old one has. The white connector means it's the updated one, SOA realized the old ones were prone to cracking and issued a new-and-improved one. www.subaruparts.com should have them for like $30...
  15. If not offroad, you'll forget the myriad of EA82T blowup stories we have on here and you'll want to build your own WRX-killing old-school boosted Turbowagon
  16. One thing I've learned working on these cars: pull the codes before you randomly start replacing stuff. Just guessing at the problem won't do you any good. Did you check the alternator and battery? If you suspect you have no spark, also check the coilpack and igniter.
  17. I know the exact location and can definitely see a meet happening there...
  18. It's pretty much a non-serviceable part. As best I know, the dealer will not sell individual parts to it, they just sell the whole assembly. I had good luck with getting MAF sensors from junkyards, in fact, I believe I'm running a junkyard MAF right now trouble-free and have been for 2 years now. You ought to try hunting for one that way first...
  19. Viscous. From what I understand, all diffs up until 95-96 area will work, any R160 diff. When they switched to the axles without roll pins, that's the R180 diff.
  20. Yes, since the hubs are dramatically different from the 4-lug hubs, they won't interchange. I'm pretty sure the XT6 axles are like the new-gen axles in that you don't have to press them (or vigorously hammer them ) in and out of the hub. However, I do believe that the inner joint is the same on both the EA82 cars and the XT6, same spline count and everything, so if you have an XT6 suspension setup on your EA82 car, you should just be able to use XT6 axles. I'm not 100% sure on that though. I wish Dennis ex24 still frequented the board, because his (now avatar382's) monster XT has an EA82 trans (RX D/R) with an XT6 suspension... He could answer that question for sure. Maybe subaru_styles or Corky could chime in too...
  21. Yep, us Legacy/Outback people are always looking for these wheels, and since we frequent the boards with so many WRX owners, we know exactly where to get them. You could seriously post in the NASIOC Wanted classifieds that you're looking for WRX wheels, and I'd almost guarantee you'll have a promising offer in a matter of days.
  22. The only suggestion I can say at this point is show up for Mastro Subaru's big meet November 20th in Tampa. It's going to be a big WRX/STi fest as usual, so I have absolutely no problem representing the old-school Soobs there. As for a more personal meet, I say just come up with something for us to do: a restaurant for us to eat at, a fun road for us to drive, a local attraction for us to see, something along those lines. I did this very thing last month here in Orlando for Alcyones (XT/XT6/SVX). I planned the whole event, and it was a success, everyone had a great time. But if you do come up with something worthwhile that's on a weekend, I'm definitely up for it.
