  1. Just for the heck of it, check the lug nuts. Sometimes a tire store will not get them tight enough and after a week or so they can work loose. I'll try and come by sometime this week and take a look at it.
  2. It must be the Irish in me, but I hate plaid The EA81 GL-10's had velour seats in the them, these would look sweet in your car.
  3. Or the hill holder. The one in my wagon was leaking and I was loosing fluid. So it got the disconnect.
  4. Your all a bunch of Subaru Geeks! Get a life people!
  5. We got between 2.5 qnd 3in today. I'm watching the weather as I type and its still snowing at your place Corky, hasnt snowed here in a couple hours. They say we will get more, I hope so. Qman came by today in his 6, he was all bummed. The car had to much traction and he couldnt have any fun Northguy, you have different snow. Its all packed on the roads, not like here. It turns to slush then ice when it gets cold enough. Then the fun begins Watching the news at 11pm to see all those great Seattle drivers all over the road. Actually saw a report from Snoqualmie pass where some guy from the eastside spun out and got stuck. He was driving a Imp
  6. How do you do that, I dont know :-p
  7. I've driven the Hatch around town here and once up to Rieter Pit, about 125mi round trip. Not once have any local Cops or other City/County/State Cops even give me a second look. This was a Pierce Co. Sheriff that was doing double duty as a Forestry Cop. It was his job to keep an eye on the snowmobilers and such. I knew I needed mudflaps and fender flares, but the other violations were all news to me. I'm still trying to find the Regs on line, but I'm not having much luck. I might have to stop in at a State Police Station to see if they have that pamplet.
  8. Just a little heads up to the folks with lifted rigs in Wa. State. I had a County Mounty stop me during the X-Mas Tree run on Sat. and he informed me my car was quite illegal to run on the hiways For one, he said the lift was only supposed to be 3in, per the GVW of the car - stock. 2nd, he said the bumper was to high. Its not supposed to be above 26in. He informed me I could be sued if I was in a accident even if it wasnt my fault. 3rd, he said that the fenders have to be within 15deg from the center of the hub, in hiegth. 4th, he said the tire offset was a tad out of line. Like about 4in+. 5th, he said I needed mudflaps. I agreed with him there (I have one in the back of the car, just needs to be cut to fit) He had a little pamplet with him, but I didnt get a chance to look the whole thing over. But it did have the WAC codes, so I should be able to look them up on line to double check everything. He told me I need to trailer it for now on, but have fun today He also told me a couple times that there was enough to give me a $600+ ticket Fender flares will help with the tire offset. The mudflaps are no biggie. But the bumper and supposed 15deg offset for the fenders will present a problem. I might have to make a detachable bar for under the bumper/brushguard to bring it down to code. And maybe some kind of flap that hangs down from the fenders where I trimmed.
  9. Is everything still stock? It could be tire selection too. Skinny tires, or underinflated tires might make it more squirelly on corners. But the Hatches do tend to be that way a little.
  10. Had a good time, didnt find a tree tho Gives me a excuse to go to Evans Creek next weekend Got myself stuck once also, pulling off to the side as usual, into the deep stuff. But thats why I carry a shovel Those tires are so wide, they act like a snowplow :-\
  11. All XT's are oddballs. The alt may work, may not. It may have a serpentine pulley on it, which will have to be changed. Or the mounts may be different. You will only know if you have it there to compare.
  12. Funny thing. I looked at the caller ID and saw the number, I dont have a clue who that is I tell the wife. So I didnt answer:rolleyes: You left a message but it didnt come thru till the next day. See you Friday
  13. I was thinking more about the poor car than the driver :-p
  14. The EA81 is a Overhead Valve engine, and the EA82 is a Overhead Cam. You can tell by the timing belt covers on the EA82. The only thing I can thinnk of that might be different on old and new EA81's is the wiring for the carb. Depending if it was a feedaback system now compared to a later model which is not. Actually it sounds more difficult than it is. Its practically a straight swap.
  15. Start a thread in the marketplace for a EA81 engine with low miles, in the PNW. Once you get the engine, help might not be that hard to find
  16. Yes they did. They made Hatches and Brats until the late 80's. I have had 2 hatches that were 86's.
  17. Zap, the tree will fit better in the Toy :-p The weather (at this time) is supposed to be SUNNY :-\
  18. I hate to say it, but thats just lame :-\ You have crashed your hatch a couple times now. Me thinks you should be on a bicycle
  19. The only friends I have are Subaru owners, except for family members. In my area, when people see my Hatch, its a good response. Usually a thumbs up or a "Nice rig, man", or "thats so cool" (from the kids). I had one gal at my espresso stand say its the funniest looking thing she has ever seen. I replied, "would you be laughing when I rolled over your little Honda?"
  20. Ah, should have made that Pacific Ocean So, you are far from local and I guess my original offer is withdrawn. BUT, theres a shop in PDX owned by a board member here who does excellent work. Import Specialties, I believe and his name is Richie on the board.
  21. Generally, anything 84 and up will be a hydraulic lifter engine. Altho theres no guarantee of this either. It would be better f you could find a donor car, one that you know is a runner with just body damage or rust as the problem. The only checks that can be done with the engine out of the car is oil consistency, color and odor. A milky looking oil means theres water in it and most likely a head gasket has gone bad. This isnt terminal either, but you wont know how badly the engine was overheated till you pull the heads and see if theres a major crack between the valves. The location in your sig says Pacific, Wa. Is this the Pacific by Sumner, Wa?
  22. Its 20min for me Be cool if you can make it Richie, and all the others that have never made this outing. Just hope theres more snow than there is now :-\
  23. Hmmm, I really prefer to pitch my tent on a dry surface
  24. Well, he picked the right place to come to. The hospital is the areas best, and the peeps here are even better. Donny and his Bro will be taken care of, thats for sure. Btw, did he fall or jump off a roof?
  25. Welcome to the board, and howdy to a local owner The smoke could either be from bad rings or bad valve seals. Theres enough Soobs in the yards around here, it might be more feasible getting another engine for it. I saw a hyd lifter engine (smoother running) in a wagon at the Tacoma PAP last weekend. It doesnt matter if the car is 2wd or 4wd really, they all work (EA81). The special tool for the axles is just to make the job easier and faster. You can do it without the tool. Let me know if you would like some hands on pointers
