3at 4wd T-coupe To 4 Or 5 Spd?
Turbone replied to LUVMYBRAT's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The 4spd sucks bad on a turbo, been there - done that. I went through 3 clutches in barely 3 months. Carfreak should speak up, he's done the 5spd swap on his turbo wagon. The only issue is the driveshaft I believe. -
Meet Petter!!! Who's going?

Somebody get me an autograph, please? -
Nope, as a matter of fact they are quite rare. If your Brat has a 3.9 tranny (which it prob does) you will need to convert a 3.9 diff to LSD using the guts from a 3.7 LSD. The parts you want to snag off a XT6 (If your going to re-sell) are the alternator, power steering pump (electric), disty and the running gear (for 5 lug conversion)

Sorry I missed you Todd, maybe next time. I had mechanical problems in my Hatch on the way to the show, blew the rear diff (welded). Limped it home and drove the XT6. Pretty good showing for them, there was 4. Well, theres always next year Glad to see alot of folks again and meet some in person.

Big applause to the Staff, put on a great show again. I think we will be needing some folks to step forward to volunteer for the following events Might be some big shoes to fill tho. Thanks to all the Sponsers, without them it wouldnt happen at all.

If its still running next year around the same time -
timing belt, roll on and off.
Turbone replied to Indrid cold's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
In order to remove the center cover, the crank pulley has to come off. If you dont take off the center cover, you cant install the belts. But you can break the center cover off without removing the pulley, I guess -
timing belt, roll on and off.
Turbone replied to Indrid cold's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I think you are mistaking the timing belts with the accessory belts. The timing belts are inside the timing covers, behind the crank pulley. It needs to be removed to get the covers off and the outer crank gear off. -
I guess if it was easy for the everyone to do thier own maintenance, you wouldnt have a job, would you?

First & second question. The engines are the same for the RX and GL-10. They came with different trannies. The RX has Fulltime 4wd with D/R and center diff lock (there is a AT version). The GL-10 sedan has the single range tranny. Some GL-10's came with a LSD diff, the RX has it stock. The D/R selector is manual, some say this is the tranny for better launches. The pushbutton single range is prefered for the street (not racing). I dont have the ratios at the moment (I'm eating), maybe someones else can post them. The diff lock does just that, its to lock the center diff to make the power ratio to front and back the same.

Not everything will swap over. The 82 is a little different. The tail lights, grill (has the 3rd eye) and I know theres a few other items I cant recall right now. Can a Mod move this to the Old Gen Forum, please?

A beautiful day in Subaru Country!
Turbone replied to Qman's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
My car's center of gravity is so low its like riding on rails. To bad I didnt get to show it off on Sunday, the wife wasnt liking the twisties and dips :-\ The rear was a little heavy also with my 2 boys. Qman was behind me for a bit, he said it looked like my diff was almost scraping the ground a few times -

Yes, the one on the left is mine. It has 2wd struts on the front and modified 2wd shocks on the rear. The drive was great(Altho I couldnt drive like Qman and MrRadon) and the BBQ at 6400ft was great too. I really miss the altitude  I lived and worked at 7300ft for 14yrs. -
changed some parts, and......
Turbone replied to starkiller's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Did the problems start with the o2 sensor change, or was it running like crap before that? -
I would first go back to the tire store to make sure they dont have it. If they dont, I would retrace the route you took on the way back and look for it. That centercap is going to be hard to find.
