  1. Mary, we could use more people like you Now that ought get some going. I think everyone has made a post (or more) with a bad choice of words, some dont even make sense I applaud your honesty and integrity Hope to see pics of your other projects as well, keeping old stuff alive is a real job/love.
  2. Did you pull the bearing out? There was someone back on the east coast that had OEM parts and one of them was this particular bearing. The bad thing is, its around $60. Maybe if you got it out and took it to a shop that specializes in bearings they would have one that matches.
  3. Search function is your friend..... http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=15008
  4. Disconnect the the green plugs and remove the positive battery cable overnight. This will clear any codes that are in the ECU. If they come back, tell us what they are and we will see what can be done.
  5. Kind of hard to see beeing all black. Where did you get it? And is the car running yet?
  6. If you can, find a set of rear disc for it. You'll wonder why you didnt do it earlier. Extremely easy swap to do also, just make sure its from a 4wd EA82. If you cant get the adjusters backed off, you might not get the drums off either. What kind of torch were you using? A little propane one wont get it hot enough. Try tapping it (sharp hard ones) this might help loosen it up. I believe you only need to turn it 180deg to loosen them. Kind of OT, but where did you work in AK? Fishery, cannery, boat or processor? Should have lots of $ to fix up your Soob
  7. 2 door or 4 door? When people say sedan, some mean 2dr. That would be a keeper, but not to uncommon. Now the tranny, thats another story. Usually anytime after 100K you can expect it to stop shifting into 2nd and 3rd. But rest easy, its an easy fix. Its the govenor on the right side and its easy to change. But it could also mean that the front diff is eating the gear of the gov. In that case a replacement tranny will have to be installed. Then you have a choice, replace with another 3AT (NOT) or install a 5spd. Theres a write up in the USRM for the swap. If your real ambitous, you can install the rear drivetrain and have 4wd
  8. They just rattle and make noise, but they do protect the tall grass from igniting if you park over it. Are you talking about the ones that cover the turbo? Or the ones that wrap around the cat? You might be able to use some header tape on it instead of heatshields.
  9. Jeez, I didnt know those came with afterburners To bad you couldnt have driven the XT out with her, I could have met you over there. Sure wish you would have posted about that a little earlier :-\
  10. I can only assume thats all you could get from the dealer. But we have seen some strange configurations out there, so its possible to think that if you special ordered it, you might have been able to get one with a 4spd D/R.
  11. I quess I was to much a CS to step up earier, so now I'm saying that I agree with Zap and Phat. Do you guys really know what they have done to these cars mechanically? I know they look a little cheesy but they may have also spent alot of $ underneath the cars too. Everyone has different tastes and alot of times you go with what your group/area of style dictates. I say, if you got it, flaunt it!
  12. And thankfully theres guys like me that still have parts for them Is it running now?
  13. Well, I'm impressed. After the trouble you had trying to get it to run right, you actually went and drove it that far without any troubles You did a good job on the carb rebuild and it was your first one
  14. Tom, you will have a long ways to go.....I think he's in Oz
  15. Replacing the seals in the oil pump usually do the trick. Not that hard a job but the parts have to come from the dealer. And welcome to the USMB.
  16. Was the PCV a OEM part? Aftermarket ones have been known to be junk quickly. It does sound like its blowby tho. Was it a complete rebuild? Maybe things are still trying to seat in the engine.
  17. Thats from Oz and a guy named Fossil. Its about a year old(or older) from one of thier Gymkanas.
  18. Well, keeping on topic but going on a small tangent...Whats the census on using the synthetics for trannies and diffs? Or even some of the additives they have out there. I have heard some good things about the additives like Lucas and such.
  19. Welcome back. I think Clover Park is in the Puyallup area, which puts him my neck of the woods.
  20. Well I wouldnt go that far. We can tell you what you should do and what not to do, but we cant babysit you But your doing ok so far
  21. Did you use a EA82 flywheel? Also the pilot bearing in it has to be the same as the tranny or no fit.
  22. "New" cars are still under warranty. Not that it would void the warranty if you worked on your new car, but it just makes sense to have them do it. When I owned my 95 Astro van I had free oil changes for life from my dealership. Cant beat that. But any unauthorized major changes to the car will void the warranty.
