hah i wish if i had enough money. well well see, the ej25 still seems quite nice sine i know where the motor is coming from and the low end torque but if before i see a ej22t for sale, i will definately check it out. im wondering if the wiring would be very different from the 200 wiring of the ej25?
-
Yes i know im thickheaded but for $800 it doesnt seem so bad. The question is, being as impatient as I am, i want to swap to an ej from my weak EA82T but I am still confused as to which engine I should choose. $800 for longblock 2001 EJ25 and everything from my friend with 50k on the clock. Plus its USDM cali so all the smog thigies would be jus fine. But i want power, and turbo, and reliablilty haha so I am also looking at the EJ22T from the legacy's. I am asking, which do you think should I choose? I am really liking the EJ22T for its stock power and the ability to be easily upgraded but I also like how the EJ25 has alot of immediate power since its NA and the price isn't so bad. So help me all, and let me no your opinions. Also with the 22t i believe i could run the legacy tranny and because of that i could use the lsd 3.9 diff unlike the 4.11 ratio required to tap into the power of the EJ25, the only diffs out there seem to be regular auto ones from the old legacys. well, tell me what yall think.

gearing to 4.11 questions
eddygordouk replied to greggbrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
hah pretty old thread to ressurect but was wondering. I wanted to swap to an ej tranny and engine that had a 4.11 ratio and so was lookin for a matchin rear diff. the question is, being that I have an RX id basicaly have to look for a non turbo gen 1 legacy. i want to still have an LSD though so was wondering, is it possible to just take some of the interneals and match them with the RX LSD diff or the other way round to create a 4.11 LSD diff for the swap? that would be nice. -

just a thought but even though my engine is kiiiinda....bad haha it does that idle problem too. Dont listen to me though since i dont know JACK and need to learn. its most likely due to the fact that i think one piston ring on the 3rd cyl is damaged perhapes? or sumthin, low compression in 2 cylinders but when cold the engine idles quite high, around 2000~1500 but after warming up it starts struggling, then i would have to hold my foot on the gas at while at a stop to avoid it dying. im surprised u havnt come by to check it out yet, maybe could get some ideas? i jus have it chillin till winter break and i live basically 2~3mi from ur work.... -
really? oh ah well. still impreza brakes would sound nice. is there any brake upgrade really for ea82t cars that dont need ebake fabbing?
-
hmm yeah i want to jus run simple xt6 suspension till i can get a much more decent one all around. also ur runnin impreza axles, are they much different (i.e. larger diameter?) than stock old gen? any improvments and can it be done to the rear? id like to run xt6 brake upgrade all around and then look for some new nice decent rotors to put on.

sorry but just wanted a quick question relatin the conversion. was wondering was the cost usually is all said and done for people?

Fixed the RX finally!!!
eddygordouk replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
u can put any engine it seems. i called up the air and resourrce board and they said it was ok to put a ej25 engine. ala all those vanagons with subaru engines in them down socal. -
rearr diff options cuz oftranny swap
eddygordouk replied to eddygordouk's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
so now a website has got me wondering, it seems to show that the auto diff ratio of a wrx is the same as a manual 2001 RS diff ratio. That beign are they then switchable? that would be nice since it would give me a slightly larger amount of places to look for diffs. just a thought. also would i have to shorten/lengthen my axels or anything after swap? -
ever since learning about the speedo sensor in the tranny and odb2 goin into limp mode without it ive been leanin towards tranny swap rather than adapter plate for rx with ej25 going in. i was wondering, what diff would i need? can i use any from an ej? or does it haave to be from a ej25 model car? i have found some wrx rear diffs which sound pretty slick to get, if there is any difference. also i have read tot believe that since i have an ea82t my rear axle splines will fit? or do i need new rear axles also? those are also for sale so im wooondering.
-
yeah i took mine off also. i think its what makes and RX an RX but then again, i want mine to be different hah. Plus the fact that mine was rotting, stupid nerf. ah well. each to their own...

eh, simply creat a rear strut bar that can go across the hatch part and boom, ur good to go with rigidity. or at least thats what id want to do. maybe do it like a triangle where trut goes to either side and then two beams go down from each side and meet at the floor like: __ \ /

questions questions need much info on engine swap!
eddygordouk replied to eddygordouk's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
thanks for the help Snowman. That solves a bit of headache. so ur implying i need to now find the rear lsd an all. i have to replace the back end axels also correct? so that the ratio matches up nicely. I wonder about getting the driveshaft resized? would it perhapes be weaker? should i just creat a new one? im wondering if i can still fit in aircon with the ej25 in my car, could it be done if it was rerouted? i think i need slimmer profile fans so wasnt sure. esp since i live in Cali haha. ive gone too long without aircon but if it cant be done, ill deal with it. im hoping to find the hard parts in the wiring prrocess so that it can be done without any thrown codes so it can pass. thanks for all the help and sorry for so many detailed questions. -

hmm very interesting. then i need to find out where that vss is and also i will be using the wiring harness from the 2001 engine. is it still possible to run stock insrument panel (is that the easier way)? Would it be best to just find an ej tranny now or try to do the d/r one and try to pass the inspection in Cali? -

is cable as effective as hydraulic? looks kinda iffy to me. i have been searchin around but its hard being an ej25 engine. everything is written so plain i dont know what the in depth details are. engine mounts need to be fabricated, crossmember needs modification okaay, but as in how so? -

Well it has been secured, the 2001 ej25 is mine. I believe i have wiring diagrams from both the ea82t and ej25 but if anyone can direct me to perhapes the fsm of the ej25? I am confused about the crossmember, engine mounts an all bit where i have to fabricate and weld a bit. i need some light shone on this. The car im putting the engine in is a 89 RX manual and im wondering if i should switch out for a hydraulic clutch? also ill need to rebend the exhaust setup im guessing? i simply need all the help i can get on how to do this proper haha. Ive read quite a bit on the board but everything seems so simplified (no real detailed layouts of what was done). The planned date is thanksgiving and its study time so nuthing goes terribly wrong -
so these are the sumitomos that i was lookin at online? iiinteresting for all that to be done for uner $300. and i can go to Big O and just ask them to order then for me and then do all the rest? sounds mighty good to me. ill havta see that also. thanks for the info
-
thanks WJM, tthose sumitomos looked like they were the best for the price. ill pick those up in the near future then. cant spend alot since saving for the engine but soon soon soon.

hmm LTL.i saw that and so am hoping for a trucking or roadway style. cheapest it seems and more sensible. thats where the companies come in anyone know of a good one to do buisness with? -
haha cool then, i was just wondering cuz i really wanted to fit some nice 205s. hmm do you think the sumitomo htr200s are the best for price or is there anything else out there? its gonna turn into winter soon but being in Sacramento where it doesnt snow and lately it really isnt raining that hard either, i really only need a tire will both wet/dry traction and no real need for snow. inputs?
-
i feel like biting the bullet and trying to run 205/60/13 on my 5.5" enkeis but should i? should i just forget it and go with 195's? or can it work and not rub or hit stuff? would be nice to have 205 and i can live with a little speedo off, dont drive fast really anywayz but im tryin to gain grip.im thinkin it might lose more grip though since i only really see the sumitomo HTR 200 205's that are designed for 6" rims. big difference putting it on a 5.5"? im really interested in what can work best for a good tire. im mtired of my 175/70/13 snow tires
