  1. no it isnt but imm worried about the leaks and i want to get em all patched up and the noise to go away. But i need help haha so I guess ill see if any of my friends can help which is few to none orr wait till ur not too busy if your alright with that. Arrg I wish I knew more, but i guess i can only know through learning haha which is now. Has anyone dealt with CCR? How much is it? Or does anyone have engine parts? *called CCR, lordy for the price, ah well. looks like imma have to just ask around for parts or where to get parts*
  2. I just got it checked out and things are not fun haha. Seems sumthings up with my lifters which I think is adddressed in the "ticking of death" post on here. Theres an exhaust leak?? and the timing belt seals or sumthin around there as wheel as valve cover gaskets.....are these fixes plausible on a simple budget? They shop was talkin about $700 which I almost laughed at them in the face, could get a whole new engine for that. Seems like all those are causing it to leak oil while the lifters are cauusing the ticking noise. Can anyone offer advice? Or does anyone have these items that I could purchase/know of a place that sells them? I really want to fix the engine before resorting to trying to find a new one. Also how good is CCR for rebuilding? Is it expensive? Thanks for the help ahead of time.
  3. well ive decided on gettin some 15s hopefully in the end. Ill have it at a lower height than stock but not too low that it scrapes even pebbles. I think ill have it lowerd around 1-2 max from stock height, ill decide when the time comes. My goal is to have 205/50-55/15 size tires on a decent size 15 inch wheel that can house future wrx front and rear stock brake set.
  4. thanks for the input. I was really intrested in runnin on 14"s so i could have a lower ride height but still not worry about cutting into my tires, but my choices of breaks is nill it seems now if i upgrade. I read that Baer Inc. makes a kit with 11" diameter that can fit 14"s so i was wondering, could that work? I really want to do that with some 14x6 superlights. Should i jus move one up to 15"x6 superlights? Seems it might be easier but i dont want to cut into the fender an all. I basically want a ride height of this porportion :

I was wondering what a good size wheel and tire choice would be for an RX, i want to have it be at a lower riding high due to suspension modification and lookin at how the 13b transplant RX ride hight, hes runnin on 13"s i believe. I would be intrested in perhapes 14x6's and do you think a 205/60/14 could fit in? or maybe even 215/60/14? I would have the fender above the tires and not try to fit the tires in the fender so to say. Does anyone have experience with this? Even with Xt/XT6's?
  6. ah ok, thanks alot. ah but theres one thing haha, i need to get it registered SO soon cuz it was bought outta state and need registration which mean smog test which means....i need to have it running sorta clean haha. ill see if i can find some shop that knows wat there talking about for cheap or sumthin but im still down to meet up. Itd be great if u could give me tips on working on the RX.
  7. crap mine was sorta like that but it still runs and stuff so i think if i do anything more itll go that way as well. i reeeally need to do a comp test to get it sorted but i was wonderin about the motor buying, how much do u think one costs that ud replace with?
  8. sounds like a plan but i dont really have an idea how to do it properly. blaaah. i looked it up and have an idea but i dont have the tools it seems. i think i can find a friend mechanic who can do it though so ill jus have to have my car parked till i can. this really sucks.
  9. it seemed like it was blue or white smoke. The coolant was bubbling though when i saw it. Right now it doesnt seem to overheat and the temp gauge looks normal it also follows how the engine warms up so i dont think it might be broken. The engine idles lower than 2k it seems at first when started and then goes down to below 1k. I discovered sumthin around the clutch line though where there might be a missing bolt to hold it on, i make it high priority to take pics tomorrow when the sun is up again. Think anyone near can come by and check it out perhapes? Live in Davis on the way to frisco from Sac.
  10. i was driving back from Reno yesterday and it seems something might be up with my engine. Im not sure what it is beecause im still starting to learn about cars so im asking you haha. It was very strange but while i was driving back it seemed like i was losing power. I pulled over and i noticed that the engine coolant in the coolant box was bubbling so it was quite hot, also it appeared i was on no oil which is not good heh. Alot of smoke was coming out of the exhaust and for a second i thought totally did something bad. the engine wouldnt start unless i gas it quite a bit and then it would catch. I decided to drive it back otherwise i would of have to pay more towing fees then the car itself. Now that im back at home the car will start easily but there is a ticking noise somewhere in the engine bay, like an old car when its engine is first started and its really cold. I cant really place a finger on where its coming from but it might be the engine itself. It doesnt seem to change speeds when the throttle is pressed so im thinkin it isnt one of the pistons or anything but maybe something else? What would cause alot of smoke to come out of the exhaust and do that? maybe where the engine connects with the flywheel? I was worried thatt maybe my turbo went but it still spools fine it seems also and the spool light comes on. What is the normal rpmm range where the turbo kicks in usually? *update* so when i took out the oil dipstick after a few minutes of low rpm driving to move the car to a better spot to check on it i see some smoke comin out of the pipe, due to heat? im not sure but thats what i seeee
  11. im thinking of taking off my spoiler and selling it for cheap so i didnt know i fu wanted it. i need to get my friends camera so i can take pictures but its aiiight haha. jus check back soon when i post pics.
  12. Hey everyone, was wondering about how i would be able to take of the spoiler for the 89 RX. I really have no need for it since i am lookin at replacing perhapes, dont know with what but it will be old to fit the style . Could someone tell me how to take it off? And was wodnering if anyone would wanna take it off my hands for a cheap price. It appears to have been quickly painted on some areas and maybe some bondo but it seems to be in quite good shape otherwise. Pics up tomorrow.
  13. eh so i did it and it looks....eeeh. I really like the 2nd gen RX-7 turbo hoods. or a 1988 Nissan 200sx turbo hood (the car i was about to buy, not well known like these cars). Calebz, ur hood is quite clean but does it get alot of air? alitte longer going back perhapes for a larger intercooler. Howd u do it again?
  14. ew really? I think it is boxy and fits the design of the Rx, loks like a more cut wrx scoop. i would not have the hood indent but rather have it flush and have it the same colour. ill photoshop it on the RX later tonight and show people what it looks like, hopefully it turns out ok haha

  16. i saw a nice hood scoop from vis racing, taky sounding name (Zyclone hood scoop but its for the current gen celica and looks pretty nice i think, check it out (http://www.showoffparts.com/abv-00tycel2dzc-015.html) boxy but clean cut. I wonder if this would fit and look nice. And yes i am in Davis, CA.
  17. how hard is it to put a hood scoop on the rx hood. The hood is really havey and it would be so beneficial if there could be one madde of aluminum with the hood scoop (or maybe carbon fiber? ) but that seems expensive, or is it?

If i wanted to swap out the engine for say a newer WRX one and to handle the power if modded i also swapped the drivetrain, would i just need to mod the driveshaft and is it possible for the swaps? as in reasonably possible? Is there any driveshaft from another vehicle i can use or do i have to custom make it. how much is it for a decent driveshaft fabrication if there isnt one i can find from another car?
  19. do you know the price of such a bar would be? and could it be possible to have on thicker? by the way do u know if there are any struts or anything? I really want to work on body roll and stiffness to reduce roll and maximize cornering, since this car wasnt made for speed to say.
  20. concoct as iiiin...could i evver mod some sti suspension? seems maybe possible with a bit of work. I would want some decent suspension to greatly reduce body roll to brring ouut the light weight of the RX.
  21. does anyone know what suspension set up the 89 RX has and is there any aftermarket coilover/struts for it? I know the xt has KYB and there are a few other old subarus supported by tokico. Is there anything for the RX? Or is the RX running any suspension set up of another car?
  22. Hi, I am on the verge of getting an xt6 but its auto. i was looking about increasing the power output in the near future and decided why not do an engine/tranny swap with another engine. I was wondering what could fit. I was intrested in maybe the ej22,ej25 or perhapes from a wrx (ej20T)? And to handle the power increase is there any trannys that could fit? I would highly desire manual. im sure the xt6 has enough engine room. Also does tokico make coil overs? or for a decent performance suspension is there only KYB? Oh and one more thing. I wasnt sure about the LSD but can there be an upgrade/strength increase to handle the load of a decent engine. How does the fulltime 4wd handle? Of course it isnt up to par with new Soobs but I was wondering how it handled the road and if there was excessive understeer/oversteer...thanks alot and sorry for such a long and excessive post.
