Split motor mounts on an EJ22>Loyale swap

Awesome work! What method did you use to get the plate that way? Just grind it down? Or did you have something more precise? -
Split motor mounts on an EJ22>Loyale swap
Subarutex replied to jelly man's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
Yes sir, thats what my RX has in it now, along with the Group N Tranny mount. Its so awesome! I should do that to the Wagon tooo.... but I don't want to spend the money! -
They decided that they'd rather MAKE money selling guns than lose money selling lift kits for a small market niche vehicle like the subaru.

Using any bits from CBP in aussieland?

Split motor mounts on an EJ22>Loyale swap
Subarutex replied to jelly man's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
You're right, this problem isn't very well documented, and should be addressed. On my RX (EJ20G swap) the car had the round liquid filled mounts when I originally got it. Within a short amount of time those mounts were completely tore up. Since its my go fast car, I decided to spring for some Group N STi engine mounts. I believe it was $60ea from http://www.subarugenuineparts.com These mounts are pretty gnarly, and I doubt they'll give out anytime soon. On my '86 Wagon that just got running with an EJ22 I've also notice the mounts starting to split. These mounts are the square rubber ones. I haven't decided on how to replace them yet. Compounded the problem on this car though is a lack of a dogbone (upper engine stabilizer) and decent tranny mounts. But, replacing EA82 tranny mounts is like a waste of time, they practically disintegrate putting them in. So, there is 2 more for the records. I'm interested to see how many others come forward with this problem. Whats horrible about it is that when the engine first goes in its no problem... but then as you run it just tears them up. I found out both of mine because the exhausts started hitting on crossmembers and such. -

Noah has custom arms in the works... Should be done soon. I'm in agreement with the struts being the culprit.

Attn: Minneapolis/ ST. Paul Members!

Well, I made it. I talked the hotel into letting me check in at 10 So now i'm chilling at the Bruegers Bagels down the street for 3 hours killing time and waiting. The bagels are excellent, the people are kinda scary, and the wifi is freeeeee. One small gripe, there was a mandatory $3 fee added onto my taxi fare because I took it from the Airport... Thats whack!! -
Due to some bad planning I'm flying into MSP tomorrow (sat. 3/10) morning for a wedding. The plan was to get to my hotel in downtown St. Paul and sleep till the wedding in the afternoon... However, check in isn't until 3pm, so no napping for me. So, I'm gonna be in a big city, alone, scared, and sleep deprived for 7 hours with nothing to do. Any insight on things to do that don't cost money (i'm poor) or ::gasp:: anybody want to meet up with me? Hit me up on PM, I will be leaving for the airport around 10 tonight.

To be different? Because he can? Because its what he knows?

For those of you who remember it...

Dude. DIYautotune.com has a write up on how to make your own wiring harness using a ECU connecter (Guy that did/helped Will run MS) He also sells fully assembled MS boxes. Pick a version a go to it. Will, Congrats on getting the car running again. I know how exciting those moments can be! -
New bling for the RX, but with function
Subarutex replied to Turbone's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
What A-Pillar and what guages? Those look good! I'm running a Megan Boost Gauge in an AutoMeter Gauge Cup mounted to the stock A-Pillar. The wiring and vaccuum line is wrapped with this trick looming, looks very nice. -
Welded Rear end on a Daily driver?
Subarutex replied to ivantruckman's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Ditto. I don't believe the fact the rear diff was welded led to the destruction of your tranny. Dollars to donuts it was the rear output that went tits up. The P/T trannies just don't have the strength in the rear output thats needed to support 100% of the power. When/if I ever go Tcased (not very likely) I'll have the tranny inards cryo treated. While it may not be 100% proven to work, it certainly can't hurt... Anything to help push the inevitable back from happening is a good thing. And, for the record of driving on a welded diff. I do it, have been doing it for 3+ years now. No broken axles. I attribute this to 3 things: 1st, I've basically retaught myself how to drive with it. Take extra wide turns into parking spaces, etc... 2nd, My rear diff hanger has been reinforced. This helps keep the diff from twisting and potentially causing bad angles on the axles. 3rd, my lift is fairly mild. My axles are fairly level, with not a whole lot of angle. -
Is it an RX with RWD?
Subarutex replied to [HTi]Johnson's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Sure, throw in a part time tranny... or how about a ticking time bomb? The rear output of these trannies just aren't designed to be used for 100% of the power... especially when you start to abuse it. -
The West Coast Subaru Show Committee is looking for volunteers. We are looking for people that can help not only on the days of the show, but are able to attend several meetings, put in countless hours on their own in these months before the show. This is a very difficult task. We need every volunteer to put in 110% to make this show a success. If you say you'll do something, we (and hundreds of enthusiasts) are counting on you, Please follow through with it! If you doubt the difficulty and challenge in pulling a show like this off, PM Zapar... I'm sure he can lend you some insight. Some tasks/responsibilities may include: Doing Shirts Making Flyers, Maps, and Signage for the event Finding Vendors Doing Event Food Scouting Locations Setting Locations Doing Awards Judging Etc.. If you are interested in helping out please drop me a PM, include in it the following: Name: Phone #: Email: What you bring to the table: (ie. What have you done before, what do you have experience it, what you are willing to do, etc... Please be as detailed as possible!) Here is a Sample of what a PM should look like: Name: Chris Walker Phone #: 425-000-000 Email: subarutex AT gmail.com What I bring to the table: Ability to help design, fabricate, and erect signage for the show, and even provide a wholesale discount. In the past i've helped with registration, so I can offer my insight into what works, and what doesn't. I am willing to spend whole weekends scouring the countryside for the perfect location. I am willing to put in 8+ hours a week to make this show happen. Thanks!

Don't forget the brakes... When it comes time for wheels/tires, check out a 45 series on a 16" wheel. Very firm ride and handling, and looks awesome.

My EJ20G swap doesn't have a walbro, however it does have a high performance Bosch equivelent. Definatelly a must! So far stock, I have more than enough fuel to make my AFR's w/ the Haltech exaclty what I want them to be. I will be interested to see what I'm able to get with a bigger IC and turbo. Now, to figure out which way to go... Front Mount? or Top Mount?
-
HOTT. My EJ20G RX is now finally pushing the right amount of boost... very fun! I'll have to get to a dyno... did you go down to Portland for yours? And how would you feel about a EJ swapped drive/photoshoot sometime this summer? Maybe somewhere out HWY 101...

So... lets try this, someone. Post the results. Hit me up if you need help, i'm more than ready to try this out!
