  1. Finally, a positive thread I can respond to. I had a very good time this year. I met some cool new people, got a chance to hangout with some I knew from years past, and got to experience it with some really good close personal friends aswell. I'd like to thank Dan, Jay, Noah, and Monica for providing just enough encouragement to keep me driving Ultimate down to the show... and I'd like to thank Art, Craig, and the above again for pulling over with me a couple times on teh way home. I was very happy to see Andy (baccaruda) attend this year... Finally!!! and was very happy to meet Brian (Monstaru) in the flesh. Both are very good people, with a bunch of whack ideas and theories, that I absolutely love to hear about. It was TOTALLY awesome when Noah gave me the keys to his wagon for a run in the mudpit after I had jokingly been asking him to. It really felt good to do that. Thanks! I could keep going on and on and on... but I won't. Zap, I'm sorry to see you step aside... but I know its for the best. I just want you to know we all Love what you've done for the show over the years and that you will still attend the shows to come. On that note, I'd just like to let any of the organizers for the show in the years to come that I will be Happy to help with anything I can, and please don't hesitate to ask.
  2. Monica and I will be meeting you guys down south in Tukwila... Ihave to pick her up from work about 10am.
  3. Did you put a muffler on it? I'm curious to see what my EJ22 sounds like in my wagon... My wagon already has 2.5" from the y-pipe to a FlowPro muffler, sounded mean with the EA82...
  4. Usually people reply to the content of the post, not the formatting of it. Go outside and relax... its just caps lock. Last time I checked upper case letters meant the same thing as lower case letters. I have been out of school awhile though, perhaps you could clue me in on what you highschoolers are learning nowadays? I'm getting so out of touch in my old age.
  5. Does the ticking go away when the car is running? Sounds like it could be the check connectors are plugged in. Find the ECU, and locate the 2 green small connectors, they should NOT be plugged in.
  6. YES!!!! I'll see if I can come by sometime the next week or so and get that harness pulled...
  7. The Perrin EBCS has 3 ports. 2 on one side (labeled Ports 2, and 3), and Port 1 on the opposite side. When installing, Port 1 goes to the wastegate. Now, depending on how you want the solenoid to work (which mode) you connect the turbo side to either Port 2, or Port 3. Port 2 is Fast Response - Interrupt Mode, Port 3 is Bleed mode. Fast Response - Interrupt Mode operates by modulating the pressure going to wastegate very rapidly at vary rates of speed to achieve the target boost. Bleed mode operates by bleeding the pressure off, preventing the wastegate from seeing it until you achieve target boost. (this is like 90% of stock control systems) Depending on what system you are using to drive the solenoid you use one of the 2 different modes. The Haltech is setup for Bleed type boost control solenoids. It would not boost higher than wastegate on the other port.
  8. Minor update... Finally got the Perrin EBCS working. For use with the Haltech it needs to be in BLEED mode, not the other fast response mode you would use with a UTEC or stock WRX ECU. The car pulls hard to 15-16psi, in all gears. I've dialed it back to about 8psi for now. I still need to throw my wideband on it and see where I'm running before I really want to start running high boost. Also I've identified some of the "frieght train" noises. The biggest being the 14" steels the PO put on the car so it could roll, hit the back plates! Just ever so slightly, but enough to make a metal on metal scraping sound. I'm also getting a high pitched whine/squeel from the clutch/transmission area. I'm thinking either the TOB or the pilot bearing. Noise usually stops when I put the clutch to the floor, but I noticed this morning that is not always true. I've also become aware the clutch movement is a little notchy... I'm guessiing somewhere in the linkage or throwout arm its lost its lube from sitting so long. For those that don't like reading, I'll sum it up in: WOOOOOOOT!!!!!
  9. Was the one in washington being sold by Andrew, aka thesubeguy? Cause that one used to be mine... its a nice car
  10. MikeW is exactly spot on. You can spend thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours of work building the biggest baddes Subaru ever... but until you get out there, find what you like doing, and what you want to accomplish, it will all be nothing. Grab a buddy and go out into the woods, try some stuff, GET STUCK. Getting stuck is the best way to evaluate changes that need to be made. Oh hey... Have Fun tooo, after all, thats what it is all about!
  11. Man... You sure are on a roll today... As someone that actually HAS RUN COPPER HEADGASKETS, I can say that the advantages are slight, and the engine will still blow the gaskets if you ping too much. I vote to save yourself the time and money and invest in OE or Felpro gaskets and the needed tools to do the HG's on a monthly basis. Also Wes, you are not the first to contact Cometic about the gaskets, but people that run EA82's (for the most part) don't want to spend the money on that.
  12. Come on man... Just because you have a 3 letter board name does not give you the right to be an A$$. Mod List: '87 RX w/ JDM Legacy EJ20G Haltech E6K Standalone EM USDM Legacy 4.11 gearbox and viscous LSD XT6 5 lug conversion Cobb 3" Cast bellmouth downpipe w/ High flow cat 3" exhaust with Flow Pro muffler Perrin EBCS High output fuel pump Boost gauge Fancy grabby clutch (hydrolic) RX's are a somewhat rare car. I would expect to find them in the 1k - 2.5k range. Depending on mileage, rust, etc... I imagine this will smog like any pre-OBDII car in WA state. Drive in, have the sniffer stuck in the tail pipe, hold at 2500 rpms, and pass! And given that it has the Haltech, I'll be able to tune it pass, or atleast thats the thought...
  13. Yes, the PS whine's a touch, but that IS NOT the source of the noise i'm talking about. I think it is a very slight rubbing of the downpipe on the tranny cross member causing a high frequency rattle sound. High idle when warm seems to be fixed by some tuning on the Haltech. Just installed the Perrin EBCS so maybe I can finally control the amount of boost I get.
  14. The 3 wires on the TPS itself are for the TPS signal. The 3 wires that come off the side to a seperate connecter are for the idle switch. I may have another one of these TPS's laying around here... but I'm going to guess that since my integrated TPS/idle switch 4prong unit on my Spider intake didn't work, that neither would the 3prong unit you have.
  15. Generally I'm not a fan of that style Pug wheels. However these... they look REAL good.
  16. I would have reused the stock intake manifold. Sounds like the manifold you have may be from an '86 car. Still have the old manifold laying around?
  17. Legacy 4.11 5spd gearbox with 4.11 LSD in the back.
  18. The exhaust sounds great. Its not as deep and rumbly as a lot of the WRX's that run around this area. It is significantly quieter now. Monica says it still sounds like a frieght train, but thats mostly the scraping noises (brakes I think) and that gosh darn high pitched squeel/rattle.
  19. NO Dubs. Probally not any spinners either. I have a set of '00 RS Rims waiting for tires, then they'll go on it. But that is a long way down the line. There are many smaller, more important things to be figured out first. To Do List: - Put in new seats - Make Tach work - Fix warm high idle - Install Perrin EBCS - Trouble shoot weird electrical gremlins - Get gauges working (water temp, oil pressure) - Get a NICE boost gauge, one that stays lit, and shows accurately (never buy Faze Gauges) - Find scraping noises (brakes suspected...) - Find high pitched whine/rattle (hopefully its not the turbo :-\) - Put interior back together - Get a professional tune on the Haltech - Drive it. A LOT. On my way into work this morning... I started out like this , then got to the big road and hit boost , the rest of the drive I was somewhere between , , and
  20. Awhile back I sold my RX, with the intention of paying off some debt, and slimming down my collectiong because we are in the process of moving into a condo. I then got a phone call. Telling me the car that I've lusted after for 3+ years was now for sale. After some long talks with the significant other, and some nights on the couch, this showed up at my house. That... was 5 looong weeks ago. It was dirty, moldy, didn't run, and had UGLY wheels on it. 3 weeks ago it ran for the first time. 2 weeks ago I started driving it around the block. Last Friday, I drove it to work for the first time. Today, I put an exhaust on it. Here is what it looked like last night... More Pics can be seen here: http://www.subarutex.com/gallery/v/Ultimate+RX/
  21. Sounds like I'm buying you dinner Friday Night. I get off work at 5pm, and am usually home by 5:30. Right now there is nothing planned, i'll double check with the schedule keeper, and make it happen.
  22. I have a block I can sell you if you need it (MPFI so slightly higher compression), Might have some heads kicking around too... Let me know
  23. I have the next 2 weeks/weekends to get this car running. Begining on the 15th I'll also start moving. I NEED to be able to drive this car by the end of the month. For you that have done EJ swaps, I'm offering food, drink of choice, and probally some cash if I have any left to help me get my car running. Is anybody available this coming weekend? Aside from you kind folks, I only have one other option... and that is something I don't think I can afford right now. :-\
  24. Yah... I already have a wire going from IGN+ to the green wire. My main relay clicks when I turn the key. Still no spark, I don't know what else it could be.
