Chux's EJ22 swap thread for this week....
Subarutex replied to Numbchux's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
After some google searching, I found some of the '92 Legacy FSM on surrealimages website. I then extracted the engine wiring diagrams, and have them up on my space... I'm gonna go over them tomorrow when my eyes aren't tired, see if I find anything. Hopefully this helps http://www.subarutex.com/92%20Legacy%20Engine%20Wiring.pdf Go ahead and save it... it may not last forever! -
Chux's EJ22 swap thread for this week....
Subarutex replied to Numbchux's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
How should/would the ecu send power to the relay if it itself doesn't have power? (it gets it from the relay, except the small memory wire) The green wire from the relay connects to a green wire off the ecu... and then they go to the diode, then from the diode to the Alt. plug. Somewhere in this line, ign+ needs to be tapped in. -

I'm fairly positive the yellow is hot, and the green is ground. Both should go back to the ECU. However, its just a relay... so even if you switched the 2, it should still work, because it is the closing of the circuit that activates the relay. I stress, both wires do go back to the ECU, and I believe it should be left that way. -
Chux's EJ22 swap thread for this week....

I can't say I'm exactly happy to see you having trouble... but it does make me feel not so bad aobut having trouble myself. Especially since alot of people that have done this swap say its "pretty easy." Ok, now thats out of the way, lets clear some things up. You should have brought over atleast 2 relays, possibly 3 from the donor legacy. Those relays are the Main Relay (6 poles) Fuel Pump Relay (4 poles) and perhaps the Starter Relay (4 poles, i think) All power your ECU gets is from the Main Relay, so it must trip for any of it to work. There should be 4 large yellow or yellow/red wires coming out of it, and 2 small wires...one green, and one black. The black should be grounded, I can't exactly remember where to through the harness, but it needs to be grounded. Green wire should go to ign+. Along its length it goes to a diode, another green wire from the ecu connects to it before then. My diode is brown, and has a yellow wire coming into it, and green wire coming out of it. The yellow wire eventually connects to the yellow wire off the Alt. Plug. Somewhere on this string, it needs to get Ign+. I am unsure if it should be be on the ecu side of the diode, or on the alt. side of the diode, but currently I have mine hooked to the alt. side of the diode. Now the relay should click, when you turn the key to ON (ign+). Once you get that relay to click, you can check the Fuel Pump Relay. The fuel pump relay has 2 fat wires (one yellow, one black/red) and 2 small wires (one yellow, one green). The fat yellow should be tracable all the way back to the Main Relay. The black/red fat should go to the fuel pump. The 2 small wires should both trace back to the ECU. As long as the main relay is tripped, the small yellow should have power at it. The ECU grounds the green wire to activate the relay, and thus turn on the fuel pump. (THIS IS ONE THING MY CAR IS NOT DOING) Ok... I need to get back to work, that is kinda just off the top of my head. I'll check back. I'm pullin' for ya. -
Giant grey plug has been eliminated on my setup... cut and spliced wires together one at a time. So... run both starter wires? I'm currently running the legacy one. How would you reccomend going about joining them?
-
Shawn, what I did with my wagon (its an '86... but this still kinda applies) is bought a brand new radiator, then I had the inlets and outlets modified to be the same size as the Legacy's radiator. I then found a hose the right size with a perfect 90 degree bend in it (it looked like an L, cost about $12 at Schucks) I cut the bend out, and affixed it to the radiator, then in the part pointing down I used a straight section of copper pipe (3" or so long) to join a slightly modified stock hose to it. And, because i forced the 2 hoses together, you can't even tell there is a piece joining them together... aside from the 2 clamps. It would be simple as pie to take this one step further and change the bottom to a larger, 90 degree bend down. Then just use some creative hosage. I'm still not 100% happy wiht my upper hose... The bends don't like the 3" of lift I have.

I have diagrams for a '87... and for the legacy (mostly) I get off work at 5... usually home by 5:30. I'd love another brain to go over this...

Ok guys, i've been going over, and over, and over this car for weeks. I've run out of options and could really use some help. Problems: Ecu doesn't ground fuel pump relay. And the igniter isn't getting a signal to spark the coil from the ecu... Anybody want to come over and take a try at getting this thing started?
-
Syphon is my best friend... and TheXfiend is my roomate. He was just joking around with him. We've done the spark plug against the engine test for spark on all 4 cylinders. I acquired another coil pack to try tonight when i get home. All the sensor wires have continuity back to the ECU. My plan of attack: Replace coil pack see if there are changes. Go to PAP and get some new sensors and try those.
-
I'm pretty sure I've already verified the coil is getting B+ not ign+. I'll try running a wire straight from the battery to the coilpack to see if that differs. I am certain that all the power wires go to a switched power, but one that doesn't cut out when starting.
-
Man, I'm so jealous. I've dreamed of owning a EJ powered RX since I bought mine.
-
everything is out of a good running car... so coil pack should still be good. Also check the continuity between the crank angle and cam sensors... just fine.
-
I remembered reading this a while back, so I searched and found it. Basically, rebuild the stock rear axles with new inner cv races (with the right spline count) and you are good to go.
-
Ok... I'm 95% of the way through this swap, but having a big problem. I'm not getting spark, except sometimes randomly at the end of cranking, or the very begining. (just enough for a pop) Now, we've tried a couple different ignitors. We've check for continuity between the ECU and ignitor, and the ignitor and the coilpack and found no errors. All 3 relays click as we have them configured now... hokily jumpered into working. Advice?

Resurrect an XT6 party?
Subarutex replied to Ever Victorious's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Yo Yo. I've put those mad tyte LeGacY Struts (actually they were IMPREZA) on my RX when I had it. I couldn't find a decent way to w i d e n the mounts, so I ended up using a grinder and grinding about 1/8" off the spindle thing. Yes, this IS relevant because I had xt6 spindles and suspension on my RX for the totally awesome 5 Lug wheels. PS. 18's don't fit... try 20's dawg!! -
2" Headers -> 2.25" Rest of Exhaust.. just a flange?
Subarutex replied to Andyjo's topic in Subaru Retrofitting
Do it. IT won't be a problem at all. I had 2.5" welded directly to my stock EA82 header. No flange or nothing, and it was just crudely crunched down around the smaller header pipe and welded. Noticable power gains (mid to high rpm ranges) and a killer burly sound. -
Woohoo PARTS ARE HERE!
Subarutex replied to Steveman09's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Not to burst your bubble... but those gaskets aren't really anything all that special. I used those my last 3 or so times. This first time they blew, this happened: The Second time... it did that x4. Good Luck. -
Ed.... its a different chassis than the Legacy (obviously) but those WRX struts should work just fine. I would try and put them in as is first, then if the tophats aren't right, you can always change them over from the ones you took off.

Hey... Paypal should still work (with a credit card), and you shouldn't have to sign up either. Or, you can PM Noah and he'll give you his address so you can send him a money order.
