  1. Yeah... I can see normally it causing stress doing burnouts, but having done it in his car at the time, it seemed so effortless... Like, how can this be hurting anything but the poor bald potenza's??? I finally talked him into some azenis sports when he could put the go pedal down in 5th gear at 60 and spin the rear tires...
  2. OK.. Here is another can of worms. Is there any reason to suspect the push button 4wd are not as strong as the dual ranges? I ask this because Ken and Adam put their trannies through hell... however it doesn't seem like burnouts are hard on a tranny, such as what Dan was doing. Ken and Adam - D/R trans Dan - Push Button
  3. I just want it known that its possible... and I believe its fairly easy to do.
  4. Ahh... so if I'm nice to my tranny it won't break? Does that include talking nice to it, giving it baths, and taking it out for dinner and a movie occasionally?
  5. 6-8 months ago: Danbob99 converts his '89 Turbo wagon (upgraded to the hilt) to RWD, by removing front CV axles, and running the tranny in 4wd (push button). A month of smokey burnouts, drifting, and overwhelming awesomeness came shattering to a halt, when the gears engaging the rear output shaft shredded themselves. (yes, we did open up the case to see exactly what went wrong) No, danbob is no longer RWD. Fast forward a month or 2: Buddy of mine shows up some jeeps. Ends up being towed to his trailer. Obviously a transfercase (nissan I believe) or tranny problem. Everyone banks on transfercase, I offer the suggestion of Dan's experience, and its the tranny. A LONG while later it gets fixed. Yup, you guessed it, tranny was the culprit! (I haven't seen the case opened on this one, but it sounded exactly like dan's experience) Fast forward to a day or 2 ago: Adam NDJ DESTROYs the output gears on his t-cased rig. See it, read it here: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=49835 Hypothesis: Running any EA 5spd (pushbutton or dualrange) in rear output only will result in a dead tranny, by completely destroying the gears that engage and drive the rear output. Kids, have fun, make sure you have a second way home :-p
  6. Good to see it a was an easy fix. I was banking on it being A.
  7. Cool... I've had the LM-1 for a couple months. Its nice. I installed it about 6" from the turbo on the downpipe. my car cruises about 14.7-15 under boost starts 10, drops to 9... then gradually leans out to 11's at the leanest.
  8. Whoa there turbo, there is more than one cause... A. Exhaust leak before turbo (at the heads, or at the turbo) B. Vaccuum leak (or rather, boost leak... check intercooler piping) C. Plugged exhaust down stream limiting flow
  9. Stock has always worked great for my offroading rig. Some people have upgraded to the xt6 flywheel and clutch/pressure plate. Although that does yeild a higher clamping pressure, the xt6 flywheel is significantly lighter however, and many people think heavier flywheels are better for offroading, as it keeps more engine momentum.
  10. Good Luck. Mine is through bolted, and welded. I can hear and feel it move both on the street, and offroad. Sadness :-\
  11. WJM... I hate to burst your bubble, but you are NOT cool enough to refer to yourself in the third person.
  12. First.. there is Spaldings. That you can see from I-90 as your drive towards the idaho. (between downtown and the valley) Then, i also believe there is Whitey's which is off of Francis, north of Division street. Andy (baccaruda) likes to go through the yards quite a bit. I would talk to him. If you need, I have his #, so give me a call and I'll pass it on. Good luck!
  13. I'm proud to show my BYB / Ozified lift. I wear my BYB / Ozified Subaru shirts with pride. To me, there is no alternative.
  14. Roomate brought home some rear struts off of a 2002 or 2003 legacy that he replaced at work. They mount the same as EA82 rears (on the bottom). Height is dead on. Just need to put springs on it and our top hat. Bling Bling bolt in. This is the same as the Legacy B4 (popular in JDM land and modded) so finding coilovers for it won't be impossible. I've even seen a few sets here in the states, but haven't had the funds to move on them as quickly as I would have liked. But with suspension stuff, i'd probally steer away from used and go new. So now I just need to find a shop that will actually look into finding a set for me. Tein's, JIC's, Mmmmm Zeals...
  15. Although, cheaper... I'd want something I had control over. ANd since i'm superior and 5 lugged, I'm on the look out for some nice coilovers for a legacy.
  16. Wow. High roller Big baller. Good Luck.
  17. At home, and mine: '86 Lifted Wagon - Runs, drives, and shines! '87 RX - Runs, drives, boost +10! '00 RS - Runs, drives, awesome in snow (thanks to Syphon's Hakka's) At Home, not mine (belongs to Danbob): '89 RX wagon - Runs, drives, almost as fast as my RX Mine, but not at home: '83 Brat - Runs, drives, currently parked in a nice warm garage... Thanks Syphon! I'm proud to say, that every Subaru I own Runs, and Drives. Its been a long time since i've been able to say that. Woo!
  18. I fail to understand how this is entertaining.
  19. We only have about an inch or so here in lynnwood. The streets and parking lots are all slushy.
  20. Where did you get the hose for your BOV recirc?
  21. After 600 miles, i'm firmly in love with EJ's. Even automatic ones. As awesome as this car is, its my time to move on.
  22. GO RX GO RX GO RX GO RX GO RX GO Danbob and I (man i'm glad I have him as a roomate) swapped my Go Fast Bits BOV from his wagon to the RX. We also hooked up his TurboXS MBC instead of my homemade one. AWESOME Conservately set at 8psi, it pulls beautifully right now. Not quite as hard as 10psi, but very smooth and solid. AFR's are still at WOT in boost 9.8:1 - 11:1. Fuel mileage... not the best... calculated at about 10miles/gallon. I just got a welder (2 weeks ago) so I've been practicing. My first project was completed last night. Its a 2.5" x 5" exhuast pipe with a 1-1/4" pipe nipple on it. This will be placed between my MAF, and my rubber elbow going into the TDO4, allowing me to recirculate my BOV. Luckily the GFB BOV I h ave is a 50/50 so at low throttle modulations its recircs, but on heavy WOT type throttling it vents to atmosphere. Cool sounds, and recirc... best of both worlds. Although, I may just end up recircing the stock BOV. Now I just need to find some hose to connect my recirc dump pipe and my BOV.
  23. Doesn't really seem offroadish to me. But hey, I guess if you like seeing people needlessly beat a poor car to death, thats cool.
