Mounting a cone filter to EA82 intake
Subarutex replied to Ever Victorious's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
How do you feel about Home Depot racing parts? I have a Home Depot racing MAF adapter, maybe even an extra one. I'll see if I can find it, and I'll help you install it! -
I walked over to CompUSA to do some price checking today... was looking for the Kia, didn't see it. Didn't think to look for a Subaru! damn.

Both check out just fine with a volt meter. Another problem the car has: When holding the throttle at 2500 it will drop, to about 1300, then rev back up, then immediately drop back to 1300. However its done this ever since I swapped to the spider intake and its TPS. I've rewired it several times too... I am concerned about the MAF voltage being thrown out of whack by the SAFC when it exceeds 5v. I'm trying to determine if the SAFC caps voltage at 5v on output, or just won't modify anything over 5v. Oi.

It will idle after a little bit of coaxing. Pig rich at idle though, to the point of blowing gas out the back. Off boost it runs OK. Not great. Boost hits anytime below 3500rpm and the motor is choked off and wants to die, doesn't want to rev. If boost hits after 4000rpm it pulls ok. But i'm only pushing 5psi, so its hardly a pull at all...

Thanks Gary. I knew to take all the sparkplugs out, never heard about the throttle though, i'll add that to my things to do. Very good idea about taking the valve cover off and checking things out, hadn't thought about that. I was just going to play around with moving the cam a tooth this way or a tooth that way on the belt. Any neat method to check if a piston is at TDC? I spose just a good penlight shining down in there would do decent... Dr. Krazy... The only flat cam i've seen was one that came out of my friends chevy 350 after about 250,000 miles, it was baaad.

What would define breaking in properly guys? I'd like to hear all your theories, cause everyone has a different one. Whose do you trust? Brian the subaru Guru? A 15+ yr certified subaru technician? A 10+ yr certified subaru technician? A guy thats been building high power big blocks since before my mom was born? I've personally heard 4 or 5 different ways of breaking in one of these engines. When I originally got the block (from a certified subaru mechanic), I was told to just drive it, that was it. No break in procedure. After those rings failed (due presumably to high boost, as 2 pistons were cracked after only 150 miles) I had the 2 pistons replaced and new rings put in the engine. The hone was touched up, and this certified subaru mechanic told me prime the engine, then start it and hold about 2500 for 10-15 minutes. I did that. Since then I've driven maybe 50 miles on it, mainly in loops around my block. I keep changing the cam timing, and disty timing trying to find the correct spot. I also don't understand how I could "waste a cam". These cams aren't brand new, and were installed and ran well on my previous motor. Also... I don't know how anything i've posted has been sarcastic? I'm honestly looking for opinions on whether or not a RUNNING car can have cam timing off soo bad to yeild these compression numbers. Or how can I have a RUNNING car when half my engine is running at 60psi... Most engines need atlease 90psi compression to run at all. I'm geniunly surprised by hearing about opening the throttle when checking compression. Are you supposed to do it? or not? I've never done it that way, am I just that retarded for not knowing how to do it?

Piggyback Engine Managment!
Subarutex replied to Steveman09's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Not if you don't want to assemble it. I've been running a SAFC for sometime, and have noticed no ill effects. What year car do you have wes? Is it a flapper door or a hotwire MAF? -
Ok geniuses, help me out on this one. Left bank is at 60psi compression, right bank is at 100. Regardless both are low, however will the engine yeild lower compression with the 260 duration Delta cams? If that is the case, it could be that I just still ahve the cam timing fubar'd. If that isn't the case, seems logical that A: the head gaskets aren't sealing, or B: I have multiple leaking valves. Block is rebuilt, remachined, rebearinged, repistoned, reringed, everything. New oil pump. Heads are reconditioned as well. 260 duration Delta Cams. Copper HG's @ 75 ft/lbs.

Doh! I knew that. 12x1.25 just sticks in my mind for some reason... lugnuts?
-
It was the lenght of the stud for the long ones. They didnt have any 12x1.25 studs that long, and they would have to tool some up.

Cool camber item for off-road racing
Subarutex replied to FirstSubaruGLwagon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Someone on here sometime ago was trying to make some. I believe that idea was exhausted when no suitable bearings could be found. Moving this to Old Gen where it might get more exposure. -

91 Loyale Not Pulling When Out of 4WD
Subarutex replied to jsspice's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I had a similar problem once upon a time. I would put it into 4wd, but it was a pain to get back into 2wd. Sometimes it seemed to go into 2wd, but it really was just neutral inbetween 2wd and 4wd. Sometimes it was really hard to move the stick out of 4wd... had to hit it several times to get it to disengage. Turned out I had a mostly bad CV axle. Still good enough to drive on, but it had enough play in it for the tranny to bind up when i did the whole drive straight for a couple feet trick to get it out of 4wd. Replaced the CV axle and have never had a problem since. -
I just keep all my anger and aggression bottled up inside, That happened back when my parents were going through a pretty rough time. It was early in Monica and I's relationship and she was coming over for the weekend from Pullman. I got home friday after work, to find the power off and thought "what a way to impress a girl, invite her over for the weekend to a house with no power." Parents hadn't been able to pay the bill in time, and it got switched off. I then really came to grips with the whole situation my parents were dealing with, and had been for quite sometime, and it really made me angry and depressed. First thing I saw was that brake light, and i just kicked it. I then promptly realized how stupid that was, and went into the garage and got the spare that was hanging on the wall. I was just finishing replacing it when the power lady came by and turned the power back on. Luckily Dad had driven to the power company and paid it, then ***************ed and moaned to have it turned on immediately. A couple hours later Monica showed up, and all was good.

Stop offroading. Hard to break them that way Actually, I've never broken one on trail... I got pissed once and put a foot through one, but thats it.
