would like some gauge suggestions
Subarutex replied to subaru_styles's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Simplicity. I run a single gauge, Autometer Ultralite boost guage. It goes from 30 vaccum (i think...) to 30psi boost. Its mechanical, pretty easy to hook up. I havent' found a round a/f guage i like... ever. So, instead I bought an Apexi turbo timer. This of course has the neat turbo timing function which keeps the car running for a preset amount of time after the key has been removed. It also has an A/F ratio meter on it. Which you can choose to display in voltage... or theoretical ratio (14.1, 12.4, 14.7, etc...). The turbo timer has a nice bright red LED display that is easy to read in all but the harshest glare. I have it located in such a spot that is out of the way, and is very discrete. I've thought about other gauges (oil and water temp, egt) but i just don't see a need for them yet. I don't like the look of having the A-pillar riddled with gauges so i'm going the less is more route. -
How did you go about doing it Caleb? I've been looking at the CO2 ring sprayer... Instead of water.

XT6 fuel pump on EA82T car?
Subarutex replied to smotocon1's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Ian, I just checked my '89 XT FSM and it lists only one fuel pump for the MPFI, Turbo, and 6 cylinder. If I'm reading this right... It is 61-71psi Max. 25gal/ H. Min @ 43.4 psi Hope I read that right. Also, i cross referenced to my '87 standard FSM and the Turbo fuel pump specifications are the same as the one in the XT. Hope this helps. Tex -

Subarutex replied to Subarutex's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center

But, i cant do it alone. Anyone that comes and helps, i'll provide food/pop for. Anybody that comes to hangout is welcome to throw any of their own meat on the barby. My address, mapquest it... call for directions if needed (425)772-6509 21712 21st Ave. W. Brier, WA 98036 I haven't seen some of you guys in forever! Feel free to come up and hangout too!

That is true! I was taught this analogy when I attended a Mequiars Car Detailing seminar. "To get your skin the cleanest, you use a harsher soap. Afterwards, your skin is dry, and you need to use some lotion" The Dawn is the harsh soap, the polish is the lotion. Don't ever use dawn when you don't intend to polish and then wax, it will ruin the paint in this manner. So, i usually go by this method: Dawn soap only when i'm doing a intensive wash/polish/wax job. For the usual wash/wax I use Mequiars Gold Class shampoo. Dawn = Polish ALWAYS!!!
-
Rob, I've done a lot of "paint restoration" work as of late. WIth getting my wagon ready for the show a couple weeks back. After cleaning with a mild DAWN soap wash, I would clay bar the car. Then wash again, with a car wash soap. I then would try something like Mequiars FIne Cut cleaner... if its really bad, maybe the Medium cut cleaner. Both of these have abrasive materials in them to break down the impurities in the paint. After the fine cut cleaner, I would use some good polish. And then finish with a good wax. FOr all the products I personally reccomend Mequiars. However, everyone seems to have their own favorites. The NXT line of products Maquiars has come out with is really outstanding. (Wax and Soap)

Engine Time, Part 2!! Help....*ITS ALIVE!!*
Subarutex replied to WJM's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
tooth off on the disty. Ran into this same problem on my RX. Moved the disty a tooth and got it timed right. But there was no adjustment left. Car ran like bad still. So we kicked back another tooth (delta cams) and now am running about 25 degrees. Good luck. -
The first time I went wheeling, with Zap, and some other guys, i was open. It sucked. I felt like I was slowing everyone down. So then i wanted an LSD, but they are hard to find, and sort of exspensive. I then got a spare diff and had it welded by a friend of Jareds. I've never broken an axle. However, i've bent the bejebus out of my moustache bar. So I got it reinforced. I still think its the beefiest moustache bar this side of... well anywhere. I twisted a stub axle off on the rear hub. That was because of priorly driving to Spokane and back with both axles in. It still takes me 20 minutes or so to put an axle in. And if I do it at a trailhead I always need help. People laugh at me and give me **** for being slow. But I don't mind. Just comes with the territory.

Just found these on the Overboost.com site: http://www.overboost.com/pix.asp?image=./images/1249/full/IMG_6526.jpg http://www.overboost.com/pix.asp?image=./images/1249/full/IMG_6528.jpg Then, in their feature article "The top 25 of HIN - Seattle" they posted this: "9. Nothing says big pimpin more than a lifted 1986 Subaru GL wagon. The 14-inch Peugeot steelies with 28-inch tall off-road tires will give spinners a run for their money on and off the boulevard any day of the week. Just ask Dave from Wendy's or the four smiling Daylighters." I can't explain the jubilee i'm feeling right now.

Need a "4wd" decal from the back of an EA82

These dead threads being resurfaced is really annoying. Mostly because they bump current threads off the first page. -

Sorry about the pics not working guys. :/ In a year or so the RX should be ready. After this experience, i think i've caught the bug. Makes you feel real good when people are wow'd by your car. I think the phrase I heard most was, "that car is SICK!" Lots of people marvelled at how much space was in the engine compartment and how small the engine was.
