  1. rev limiter? perhaps you are thinking of the fuel cut... Is it a hard jolt? Or is it actually limiting the revs? Is it an automatic?
  2. Rally: Yes, i agree that the only way to get any power out of these engines is to put in an aftermarket fuel control system. Right now, i'm running whats called and Apexi SAFC. It interrupts the MAF signal goign to the ECU. It has points you can program...that either increase the % of air the ecu is seeing or decreasing it. By doing this, the ECU injects more... or less fuel as desired. Fairly crude I spose. But I got it used for $125 and its done just fine thus so far. I've investigated several aftermarket ECU's. One being the Megasquirt, one you build yourself for like $200 in parts. Another is the ProECM M-1 which is piggyback type computer that actually controls the injectors. I'm not sure on price for this one yet. They market it as a cheaper alternative to a full blown standalone engine management system. I haven't done anything thus far to control the fuel cut. I purchased an HKS FCD that is supposed to interrupt either the MAF or the MAP signal to move the fuel cut higher. Since I already have the SAFC interrupting the MAF signal, and we don't have a MAP I guess it was a waste of $60. But i'll play around with it and see. I'm now going to downtune the upper limits on my SAFC to try and make the ECU see less air than its actually getting. THis of course seems sort of backward... because its up there that potentially needs the most fuel under boost.
  3. Well, my thoughts are the fuel cut is related to the amount of airflow. It senses to much airflow and cuts the fuel. I've hit the fuel cut at as low as 5psi of boost. Going over the pass, with my cold air intake, and the spider intake, and the boost controller. Yeah, my car was sounding pretty bad. Changed the oil, got rid of the lifter clack. The last trip to pullman really did it in for some reason. Also, i have a small exhaust leak where the EGR use to be.
  4. Mitch, PM me sometime and I'll give you my phone number. I'm in Lynnwood. We can take a look at everything and see whats going on. Peace out.
  5. Ok guys, I'm looking for some information on how the car goes about cutting the fuel. If we can figure this out we can much more easily determine a way to bypass it. Thanks!
  6. That is looking pretty good. I have a couple of suggestions, insights... Let me know if these are off base at all. All pertains to the strut situation. Personally, I wouldn't be happy with the kind of bracket you made, mainly because I wouldn't trust my own fabrication skills. What you did does look really good though. I would have made a frakensteined strut. By taking either a XT6 strut or Impreza strut. Putting whatever springs on it you see fit, and then putting the stock EA81 strut top on. On my 5 lug conversion on my ea82 RX, I used Impreza struts with the stock RX strut tops and stock RX springs. A tiny bit of metal working was needed to get the strut top on (i had to open up a whole that had a flat side on it). But, what you ended up with looks damn good. Good work!
  7. I'd like one. I'll pay when I pick it up, sound good?
  8. Very interested, PM me or email me. I'd like to see what you've done. And we can talk about what I'd like. I'd be willing ot pay a bit over since it will be "custom"
  9. I'd be in. Perhaps we could get together and you could make me a custom one. Since I have some neat goodies I have to take into account. After you get the bar in, PM me and we can get together. I'd like to see it.
  10. Just an FYI PK. I have a lifted EA82. Zap gave me a lift block off an EA81 lift for my car for the skid plate. It worked just fine. So you don't have to figure anything new out. Even the bolts were the right size. Also, i have some stock steering shafts, want them?
  11. That sedan has a body kit on it. I want. What is it? Where did you get it? I've never seen anything like that before.
  12. dude, add some coolant. I had my system freeze the other night. Perhaps you gettin ga lot of that. Also, burp the system, get all the air out. Last thing, change the thermostat.
  13. Its already intercooled Austin. Right now Dennis is on the for front of EA82T performance. I'm sure he's thought of it.
  14. Ok, here is the skinny. Legacy turbo will bolt directly to the stock crossover pipe. However, it will not bolt to the stock downpipe. It will bolt to a stock WRX downpipe. A WRX turbo will need a bit of fabrication to get to work. Don't even attempt it unless you have the spider intake. Needs a new flange on the crossover pipe. Needs WRX downpipe. I've also heard that perhaps the Mitsubishi TD04 will work. But, i haven't played around with that. Nor have I played around with the others. This is just information I have groomed from many sources. And remember, bigger isn't always better. Higher PSI isn't always better either. A legacy turbo will push more air at 10psi than a stock turbo will at 10psi. Keep that in mind. For injectors, not sure about drop-ins... I'd get a spare set (junkyard) and send them to a place in Cali, called RC Engineering. Look them up in google. Probally run about ~$50 an injector to get it flowed, cleaned, maybe then can open them up some. Who knows.
  15. WRX intercooler w/ stock wrx bypass valve. I had my bypass vented atmospherically forever. Now I run it recirculating. ONly difference is it doesn't bog down when you come to a stop. Look on my site for pics.
  16. ::cough:: WEBER ::cough:: Seriously though, I think its a carb issue. Brought about by sitting for that time before you were able to get it fixed.
  17. I'm running impreza struts in front, with my stock RX springs. It didn't get any of the usual drop when I did mine this way. So I recomend renting a spring compressor and swapping the springs from your old struts. Then you are good to go. Good luck. Tex
  18. Ok, here is the rundown. Big props to Noah for coming out and helping me fix her. Because of the NA spider manifold I have on my turbo car, the turbo coolant inlet hose is tee'd into the heater hose, instead of coming direct from the Tstat. At this T, the hose that went to the turbo popped halfway off. Not sure how long ago this happened. So, the turbo wasn't getting much coolant, and the engine was leaking it. Thus the rising temps of the engine. Because the turbo wasn't getting coolant, it cooked a little bit of oil, causing the sludge. Fixed the T, added some oil and coolant. Seems good as new. I'll keep you updated on what goes down after this.
  19. its what happens when you let dunces at work use your computer and you leave screens open. Doh! Alright, Noah is on his way up. We're gonna take a look at it. I'll give you a call later if we need your.. um, services. hehehe I'm almost sickeningly upbeat about this, don't you think?
  20. I'll take you up on that offer Noah. What are you up to tonight? Anybody willing to give my car a tow home? about 2 miles... or do you think its safe to drive??

  22. ugh, i know it won't take long. But it costs money :-/
  23. Went to Wendy's on my lunch break. Had to sit in the giant line. Temp rose and sat at about 3/4... got close to the red. I turned on the heater full blast. Trying to figure out why it was getting hot. Got my food, on my way back to work, it started smoke/steam a bit from the edges of the hood. And my oil pressure went down a lot. Like just barely there. So I pulled into the fred meyer parking lot and popped the hood. Now, I observed that one of my breathers (drv. side) had popped the filter element off and may have been leaking oil everywhere. Opened up the rad next. Had a black gunky substance around the inside of the filler neck, and on the cap. Checked the oil dipstick, and the top of it was a bit red (kinda like rust). Then after wiping it and putting it back in. I pulled out the stick and there was a sludgy type stuff on the end. Kinda oily, but sludgy and reddish. I'm back at work, car is parked across the street in the Fred Meyer parking lot. Any ideas of whats wrong? Should I just replace the breather, throw some oil in it and drive it home? Please post here, or call my cell 9056-277-524 Number has been reveresed to prevent bots from getting it. Thanks guys.
