anyone seen any more wheels like this
Subarutex replied to tailgatewagon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I usually just hit the refresh button, and it comes up. I'm glad its just not me though, i thought it had something to do with my proxy server/popup killer. -
I first met Sean at Zap's house. He rolled up in the Rally RX. I heard tales of it, and saw how far on the floor MikeW's jaw was when he got back from a ride. After seeing that car, i knew that I was going to have an RX one day. Luckily I was able to find one, bought it off MikeW. If I had the money, and the time, I would be in Oregon as much as possible tuning my car. But, it hasn't gone to him yet. I plan on doing all that I can do to make my RX the ultimate rx. Straight line and cornering, it will do it all. I'm well on my way, and I got a chance to talk to Sean at the Tree Thing a couple weeks back. He was impressed with what I had done. We talked a lot of theory, about what works, and what doesn't. Hehe, wow that turned into a lot. Anyways, some of that is on topic, some is not. BTW, Matt, if I had had the space to put this car, you wouldn't have gotten it. I hope you do the car right. Feel free to come try and learn from me.

Hey guys, well, my friend that said he would weld this stuff up for me is being flaky. Keeps putting it off. The other guy i've used lives in Forks now :-/ So, is anyone in the Seattle area up for a little bit of welding? I can pay you a bit, but holidays = on a tight budget! PM if you might be able to help, and I'll give you details. Thanks

After the 5 lug conversion, i got the toe set close, but not right on. Took it to Dave's right next to my work, had him do it. He got the Toe set to right, and my steering wheel centered again. But, there is no more room left in the tie rod ends, none. Perhaps I'd be able to get toe in if I put the smaller stock tie rod ends back on. Well, thats kind of a mute point now, I feel like a man that just found out he can't have children. Apparently, my car has been in a wreck prior to me owning. I was aware of this, but didn't know how much damage had been done. Well, the subframe is tweaked, such that, this car will never become the corner carver that I imagined. It will always pull to the right. Here are the stats: Camber: +2.35 Left, +1.60 Right Caster: +2.55 Left, +1.65 Right As you can see, the left side is way off. And its as close as it can get. Left side is where the impact happened. So now what do I do? Scrap the car? Its not going to do what I wanted it to do. I've spent hours and hours researching, how to make this car nimble. Is it worth making it go any faster?

rear disc backing plate
Subarutex replied to junkyardgabe's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
My 5 lug converted RX is sporting 2wd xt6 backing plates in the rear. You have to make the center hole bigger by just about a 1/4 inch all the way around. -
Shudder from Right front... how do i fix?
Subarutex replied to Subarutex's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Bump for some more thoughts... -
Ok, in the RX, when I get off the gas at about 40 the right front wheel seems to shudder, fairly badly. Now, what could be the cause of this? I still haven't gotten an alignment after converting to 5 lugs... could that be it? Or maybe it could be the axle nut? I've already tried the lugs, they were tight as could be. Thoughts?

I won't disclose that information until its declassified.

I'm almost as fast as a WRX, just a touch under. Exhaust and lifted fuel cut would put me there. Still sad to see a car givin' up on. Some real good ideas were flowing over there... lots of inspiration.

How much boost were you running? Intercooled? Selling the cams? One less quick RX for me to be faster than, sad :-/

mmmm....300hp AWD in a 3dr Coupe...
Subarutex replied to Nomad's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Even the engine management? I wasn't aware how interchangable the items were. Thanks Corky! -

If your thinking of making big numbers... which it seems you are, you need to consider the aftermarket for such and engine. WIth the WRX EJ20T you have a huge choice aftermarket components. From piggy back ecu's (utek, unichip) to bigger turbo's, special intercoolers... etc. I agree that the EJ22T is the better engine, but I think that I'd go with the slightly flakier EJ20T and be able to access the huge aftermarket. Not only new, but used. YOu can get some fairly good deals on used stuff for that engine. Also, 300hp crank, or at the wheels? -

Still on the car... IC hasn't been moved yet, hopefully happening soon. -
Hey guys, the idea kettle is brewing over here. For my project i need to have a spider intake i can use on my mockup engine to see if this will all work. So, if you are in the seattle area, and just happen to have a spider intake lying around that you don't need for say, a week or 2, let me know. I'll even tell you what I'm going to use it for. Doesn't need injectors, fuel lines, any of that, just the bottom and top part of the intake, and the throttle body.

Come over sometime, we'll talk. I can take mine apart and show you everything you need to know. Check out my website http://www.subarutex.com Go to the gallery, on the RX pics, there is some pics of the boost controller.

Thinking of dynoing the RX...
Subarutex replied to Subarutex's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Cool deal. I think it would be rad to hook up with Witte, and possiblly get some engine management for my RX. Mark, glad to hear that you might be in. I'll see if I can get something together for us seattlites. Who else would be interested in a dyno day sometime soon thats in the Seattle area, or would be willing to drive for it? -

Corky - I want to get a STOCK RX to dyno also, so I can see where i've come from. Gives me something to compare my findings with. I think I may just hold off on the next round of upgrades until I get this done. Holding off is going to be hard though... i have almost all the pieces now. Good thing its cold out, good deterant from working on the car. -

Witte sir, I am very interested in trying out some engine management. What kind are you thinking of? -

With MBC, the S-AFC, Spider intake, Custom Cold air intake, WRX intercooler... I'm guessing 150 crank horsepower. Stock is 120hp. Maybe putting 100hp to the wheels? Also, this dyno is more exspensive than most because its an all wheel drive dyno. I wouldn't be able to dyno on a conventional one. Those are for 2wd. Why do you think dyno's are brutal? I think the brutalness of the dyno comes from how much power you are putting down. I have a bunch of vids on my computer of cars doing dyno runs... a twin turbo Grand national smoking the tires on one, putting over 1000hp down. And one of a Brat that has a stroked EJ20T in it (i think its stroked) putting down like 500hp. Seems like its a piece of cake. As long as you have the car good and strapped down. -
Ok, well, pretty local to me there is a all wheel drive dyno place. Fame in Redmond, WA. The cost is $150 for the first hour, any hour after that is $100. Even on subsequent visits. So, my questions are: Should I dyno now, or wait till the next round of upgrades is done? Would anyone with a stock RX like to dyno with me... That way we could get a baseline measurement for the rest of the community? ::cough:: Mark ::cough:: Also... has anyone else dyno'd their cars?
