EA82T Whatsthisdo?? (pix)

a naturally aspirated engine runs in vacuum all the time. A turbo or supercharged (called forced induction) car runs in vaccuum till the forced induction raises the pressure above the theoretical value of 0. At this point, it can be said you are getting positive pressure. For my boost gauge, i tee'd into the one of the 2 vaccuum lines on the front of the throttle body. When looking at your picture, they should be directly underneath that plastic protector, and sort of behind and closer to the throttle body than the fuel lines. -
Sure, I can do that. I'm going out of town for a couple days. I'll be back next week sometime, give me a call and we'll talk.

Actually, I have to go to Pullman again, Sorry :-/ I really wish I could go though!

I'm leaving for Pullman Friday evening so I'm out. I'd like to go the following Sunday though, if anybody is interested.

The disty was dry when i checked it. The engine dying was very sudden. Not a puttering out that i'm accustomed too by a wet disty. More like something got in the way of the engine's stroke, and Blam! stopped it dead. I was very careful to only try and start it very very quickly 2 times while in the pool. It was obvious the engine was hydrolocked (water in combustion chambers, that was taken through the intake). The puddly inside of the air cleaner confirmed this. And so did the water that sprayed out of the spark plug holes. That night she was only limping along on probally 3 cylinders if that. But by morning, everything was in tip top shape. The reason I hydrolocked my engine is this: When you are doing a water crossing of any depth, you need to proceed slowly at first, if not all the way through. This allows you to build up a bow wake, a wave or flow of water in front of the car that guides the water around you, instead of into the car. I crossed it twice at a slow crawl, just putting along. I didn't have any problems. Then, i went at it all out. The plunging into the pool at speed and just barreling through cause the water to go everywhich way, uncontrolled. Thus ultimately leading it to my intake, and into my engine.

all you experienced modders....

I have a good friend that is in the process of POR15ing his entire frame. ('51 International service truck) He swears by it. Seems to do that trick, and it looks pretty good. -
Jared's pics can be found here Enjoy!

Got back from the Evans Creek campout today. Had a wonderful time. I blew out one of my tires on a sneaky small rock. No big deal though. Jared had a problem with his strut, and I think a rim, probally something else too :-p Brian got a couple of dings on his red wagon. Took a couple of pics, not many. They can be seen here! Monica and I also had a digital video camera along. Didn't take a whole lot of footage. I have an analog capture of a portion for a teaser. Once I figure out how to get it across digitally i'll post more. Direct link to video is here. You can also find it in that album above. This is pretty much just a teaser. Hope you like! It was great to see everyone. Hope to see you guys again soon. Thankyou to Jared for putting this all together, and thanks Derek in his ZJ (??? i think i got it right) for snatching me out of that water hole. Over all, I think this pretty much sums it up:

Andy, nice to meet you finally! Thanks for bringing me my special package. You'll be one of the first to see the final product. Secrets are rad!!! I'll be in Spokane on next Sunday I think. Can drop a check off, or I can mail it. Hit me up with an email.

he should be at my house tomorrow morning Eric, might as well bring them. I'm not sure if he found some or not. -
I learned this from Corky Bell's Maximum Boost. Its a great book! I think i missed the part about the bleeder. I agree that would work.

Weber special! bulk order, who wants to buy?
Subarutex replied to Ratty2Austin's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Its all about who you know, and who you talk to at bow wow. I ordered my XT6 cluch from them. When i went in the first time, I was quoted at $180. On thursday, he hooked me up fat for $105+tax! Plus, Chris at the lynnwood store will always give me a online discount...or a subaru club discount. -
Most people when setting up turbocharged car want the full boost to come on as soon as possible. Here is the thought behind that. Turbocharged cars don't have power until boost comes on. You want the biggest chunk of rpm range to be giving you full boost. Full boost for longer = full power through as much rev range as possible. Its OK to wastegate, its doing what its supposed to be doing, regulating the boost. If it still is bothering you. Its really easy to fix it, turn the boost controller down.

So uhh, i had a thought. Let see if I can lay it out. First. Things we know: We know that the fundamental differences between the ea82 knuckles and the XT6 knuckles are the bearings and how the strut attaches to them. We know that the fundamental differences between the XT6 knuckles and GC8 impreza knuckles are the bearings. They have the same kind of strut attachment. We know that early gen. legacy struts work, and we are pretty positive GC8 struts will work. (i'm picking up 2 front GC8 struts on friday, so we'll find out soon enough.) If GC8 struts work at the top, then why don't we just use camber plates for a GC8? Seems it would be a lot easier than fabbing up some ourselves. Also, if the impreza strut tops work...and the impreza camber plates work, wouldn't it also mean that impreza strut tower bars would work? Atleast the mounting plates would. The width may be different, but making a bar would be far easier that making the whole thing. Just interjecting some thought. Let me know whats right, wrong, important, or just plain crazy talk!

Could I get a head count for Jared's get-together?
Subarutex replied to ezapar's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I will be there. -
I am under the assumption o2 sensors are always after the turbo. Perhaps the downstream one (factory one) becamse disfunctional and they weren't able to get it out of the bung. So they drilled, and installed another one?

Yes, its an 87 rx. And yes its a hot wire MAF. And yes, sometimes the boost does cut out. Its annoying...but not nearly as regular as it should be. I'm going to buy a HKS fuel cut defender...or a MRT fuel cut defender. Either one should work, and for about $100 too. Only cause i'm not sure what esle to do. Archemitis: 2.2 would be great, if you could keep it spooled. Sure, i'm gonna want to be fast in a straight line...but i'm really into that huge amount of boost just pulling you out of a turn, so I'm going to go with the faster spooling turbo. Either turbo would be great, it just depends on how you want it to drive.
-
Working on it. For the sake of research purposes i'll divulge a little information on my own project. I'm boosting 12psi with an intercooler and some slight fuel management. The car is a daily driver RX. The only problem I have is decreased gas mileage. I have more planned, but darn it, i want to be the first at something, so I'm gonna keep my ideas to myself until I can conjure up something Also...Turbo legacys were 2.2 correct? and the WRX is a turbo 2.0? seems the wrx turbo would be more aptly suited for our little engines.

I just got done watching the video over at Eric's house. WOW!!! I'm truly impressed. It is indeed the toughest looking trail i've ever seen on video (or in person for that matter). The three rigs handled it very well. Eric's camera work was superb. I especially liked the still photo's of the welding w/ the sound in the background. Very Cool. Let me get in line for this video, its definately going to be worth the wait to own.
