  1. Hahaha, funny enough I tried to do it that way. I had trouble getting passed the teenager working the box office. Had totally no clue what I wanted to do, and there was never a 'manager' around that could help me.

  3. Looking for a favor from someone in the area. My aunt and uncle live in the area, and are huge movie buffs. Wanted to send them some free movie passes for xmas, but the local theater chain doesn't have anything I can do online. Let me know if you can help me out!

  5. Cool. Keep us posted. In both my EJ swapped cars I just wired it in, and have mentally adjusted the gauge in my head. Also... what did you do for the oil pressure sender?

  7. Update: Got a check from insurance! Apparently, once we got past our agent, and started talking with the claim reps, everything went smoothly. All said and done, I was hoping for around $1500-$1800 in total replacement value. They ended up coming in at $1100 replacement value. After doing some searching around and calling I verified their replacement value. So, $1100 - $500 Deductible = $600 Check from insurance. This will get me the welder for sure... and maybe more if I find a great deal. Doesn't seem like a lot, but it does take care of the single largest purchase. The other items (welding helmet, portable bandsaw, die grinder) i'll be able to pick up as time goes by, hopefully for less than $500. Now to go shopping!
  8. Yeah, I have a set of these hanging on my tool wall. Cost me something like $180 or something like that, including the compression rings, and special copper spray sealant. It never worked out for me. But, I don't blame the headgaskets. I blame the $800 block I bought "freshly machined" and rebuilt. After it not holding together 3 or 4 times I finally took it into the machine shop to have it checked. Both head mating surfaces were severely out of true. I guess my bad trusting an at the time reputable shop. Second mistake was assembling the block myself with not a whole lot of experience. Although after 8 "builds" I got fairly good at the process. Third mistake was improper break in procedures, and refusing to believe in engine management. Or rather, refusing to spend the money on it. A trip to the machine shop on my first build would have cost me $400-$500 to have the heads and block trued to eachother... maybe even torque-plated, and could have saved me 4-5x that much over the course of the year and half I tried to make power. Supposedly the coppers HG's I have can be reused, however you'll need to order new compression rings. This is who I bought them from: http://www.headgasket.com/index.html I'd be happy to send you the set I have, and the spray sealant for $40. No guarantees they are even usable, but maybe.

I wish it had a bit more CFM for running the die grinder, but it does OK. I find it runs a lot when using the grinder, and its pretty loud. I'm looking for ideas on how to quiet it down. Unfortunately, this is still a mobile tool, so I can't just put it in its own room, which most of the internet seems to do. What have you done? Ideas?
  10. I've never had a problem with EJ exhaust studs... That being said, I helped a buddy solve this issue in his brat once... we took the exhaust spacers off, and welded studs to them.
  11. I locked up the garage door with a similar tool Craig, one of these: I captured the rollers in the pronged side, have one on each edge of the garage door. Somebody will have to take a lot more effort, and make a lot more noise to get in. Police don't have any real leads. I'm betting it was a neighbor, or a friend of a neighbor. I don't believe there to be a drug problem in the area at all, but who knows. From what they took, it appears to me they are actually going to use it. So far the insurance company has unconditionally denied the claim, citing the fact I did not own any of the tools. In order for them to reassess the claim, I need to furnish them with proof of ownership. Pictures, reciepts, serial #'s, etc... Problem is, I bought the welder and the bandsaw used. Welder was bought off NASIOC, for cash, about 4 years ago. Bandsaw was bought from a local pawnshop just a couple of weeks ago, but I believe the receipt either got thrown out, or is in the bandsaw case :-/ I have contacted the pawnshop to see if they can come up with a copy of the receipt, while they have been kind and apparently willing to help, I still don't have the receipt. I have the receipt for the die grinder, and should have the one for the welding helmet, I just have to find it amongst all my paperwork. My next step is to go through pictures, and see if I can find pics of the actual tools. And of course I did not record any serial numbers. I am thinking about going through my home, and garage and cataloging everything I own. Seems petty and materialistic to do such a thing, but without doing something like this, I can't see getting anything from insurance if something happened like a fire, theft, earthquake, etc...
  12. Coilovers are actually off of an 05+ Legacy GT. This gives you the modern impreza/legacy style front camber adjustable knuckle connections, and keeps the simple rear lower mount. In order to run those coilovers in the front, you'll have to convert to the modern knuckles. Which means upgrading to the modern brakes, losing your ebrake. There are some ideas for moving this to the rear. For fitting the modern knuckles to an brat, you will need to drill out the ball joint hole in the control arm, so you can fit the modern EJ ball joint. Once that is fitted, you can attach the knuckle, and find a way to mount the top of the strut to the brat. I can tell you that the camber plates that come with most 05+ LGT coilovers WILL NOT fit up into the strut tower on a brat, but GC/GD ones will. The hardest part of going 5 lug in a EA81 is finding an axle solution for the front axle. However, if you stay RWD, just throw and axle stub through the front, and call it good.
  13. Why stop at just the rear end? Lets me honest, torsion rear suspensions are ancient. Just as easy you could fab up a 4 link to a solid axle, or even do a subframe swap out of a s13/14/r32.
  14. Looks clean! What motor mounts do you have? Keep an eye on them once you get it running. I split a set of round liquid ones, and a set of normal square ones between my 2 EJ swapped cars. Both rock groupN mounts now with no issues. You will probably need to use 2 hoses for the lower radiator connection. I ended up finding one that had a nice 90* bend in it to have come right off the radiator and point down, then I had a copper tubing coupler, then I believe I connected a stock EJ hose to that, but I could be wrong... It was a while ago. I put a 10" fan on the front of the radiator, behind the grill. Works great, and it keeps the engine bay looking nice and clean/open looking. Your car looks great, keep up the good work!
  15. On Tuesday evening, I went to my parents to work on my project, like I do every Tuesday evening. What I found, was that someone had forced open the garage door, and walked off with my Lincoln 135 MIG welder (not the gas cylinder or cart though), Milwaukee portable bandsaw, 3M-Hornell Speedglas autoshade welding helmet, and my craftsman 90* die grinder. However, they did not take my 30gal Air compressor (on wheels), nor the other air tools that were on the bench next to the die grinder. They also passed up a dewalt sawzall (which was in a case ONTOP of the bandsaw case). I'm not even going to comment on the car parts that they could have walked off with. Garage was closed (with 6" gap at bottom for the cat), but only latched via the automatic garage opener. Hopefully my parents homeowners insurance will come through, but take this as a lesson. I've had very few people over to the garage, its located on a quiet suburban street, set back (and downhill) from the street, usually with several cars parked in front of it. I can only guess someone scoped some stuff while walking by one night while I was there working. As my parents don't use the garage, so its closed all the time. Thieves were nice, and used a crescent wrench to disconnect the gas from the welder, police actually took it in for finger printing... We'll see. All in all, I wonder what I've done wrong. I've had my wagon broken into 3 times, one of my RX's once, and now this... Oh, so learn this: - Keep reciepts - Photograph items - Document serial #'s - "personalize" tools to make them unique

I have found some things it can't undo... Usually the same things my normal Craftsman air impact won't get off as well. I've owned it for several years, and the battery seems to have held up fine with only occasional use. This is a decent tool, but if you have the money, I'd definitely try and buy something a bit more expensive... perhaps something with 2 batteries as well.
  17. GD, you have made it very clear that you are not ready to buy a transmission from NZ. Please move on. Chux, in one post you state that not all EJ manual trannies come with VLSD centers. You follow that up by being outraged at the fact that the NZ trannies do not have VLSD and are open. Then you state that all EJ manual trannies have some sort of traction aid. This is all very contradictory. If all EJ manuals have a traction aid, why did YOU jump to the conclusion of open when it was confirmed they do not have VLSD?

  21. Ok guys, I went through and cleaned up the questions. Lets try and keep this on track. Please ask technical questions in the thread I set up. This thread is purely for the logistics of this deal. $350 for a EJ D/R shipped to Seattle is great. I'm on board with Shean at Aaron's Auto Wrecking to be the point man for receiving the major shipment from Ian the Kiwi. But, we need to have the entire deal out in the open, and everyone involved in agreement before we proceed. A summary of what has been said for the deal: In essence, Shean at Aaron's Auto Wrecking will act as Escrow. Money for transmissions will be sent to him. Ian will ship transmissions to Shean, who will then have the ability to ship within the US for those interested, or the transmissions will be available for local pickup. Shean will wire money to Ian's trusted friend who is more familiar with international bank transfers. In my eyes, the only term left to decide is when Shean sends the money to Ian's friend. Does this happen before the transmissions get shipped to the US, or after Shean recieves them. Wiring the money is definitely the preferred method of money transfer, I merely threw out paypal, and carrier pigeon to get the discussion going. Personally, I would like the gear lever setup, and if possible the interior trim piece.

I just want to make sure that if he is going to make some money, you should to Ian. How will payment be processed? Paypal? Cash via carrier pigeon?
  23. I feel someone buying in QTY is looking at more of a business venture, than the friendly enthusiast helping enthusiast setup you have proposed. Feel free to go either way, but I feel if you do send a QTY to one person, that you should consider making some profit for your time. After all, you can assume that someone buying in that QTY would be reselling them for profit. That being said, i think you will probably be able to fill an order of 4-6 trannies shipped enthusiast to enthusiast with ease. I'd say do that, then explore the business opportunity.
  24. Wow... That seems like a great deal. Just want to make sure these are EJ series dual ranges, and is there any possibility of getting any linkages with them or interior pieces?
