Thank you for the reply. My daughter's car is an automatic and the speedometer was still working. I wa actually able to find an Impreza cluster of the same year! I replaced it and the speedometer and odometer are both working. Now I just have to take it back out in the morning and figure out why half of the lights are not working.

The odometer in my daughter's '95 Impreza stopped working and I'm thinking I should try and replace the gauge cluster. I believe the legacy cluster will swap in fine and they are much easier to find in the junk yards. I've read through what I can find using the search but I was wondering if anyone has experience replacing an impreza cluster with a legacy cluster. I'll start by searching for the same year Legacys and Imprezas.

This is not normal and someone here will fill you in on what it is trying to tell you. My guess is you may have some AWD torque bind problems (possibly a bad duty "C" solenoid?) Do you find you are having issues when making slow, tight turns? Does the car slow down and need more acceleration when turning in to a parking space, etc.?

So my son crashed and totaled my beautiful "92 Loyale with only 110,000 miles on it. After much back and forth with my wife I gave in and bought another car for my kids to use. I picked up a '95 Impreza with 125,000 miles on it. It has a 2.2 Liter motor with the 4EAT transmission. Of course after driving it a few days I realized it is experiencing torque bind. I believe it is the transfer clutch solenoid as the FWD fuse did not change a thing. (I will check the TCU codes next.) I plan on flushing/draining the transmission, adding an additive and seeing where that gets me first. The dealer wants $160 for a flush and refill so I thought I would do it myself. I've read so much about Sea Foam but have never heard mention of their transmission product Trans Tune. I was considering adding some prior to draining the transmission. Anyone have any experience with this product?

'94 Loyale EA82 losing coolant?
squatty replied to z4x0r's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I don't want to steal your thread but I have a related question. When people say "overheated" how hot are we talking? I know my car ran hot after changing the coolant and having some air in the system but it never got as hot as the redline. -

I'm in nearly the same boat. My '92 Loyale is doing the same thing. I'm pretty sure it is a head gasket. I recently changed and flushed my coolant. Shortly after I kept needing to add coolant and at first thought it was just air in the system. After adding nearly two gallons of 50/50 over a couple of months I have come to the realization it must be a head gasket. No leaks visible and I just found the smallest amount of foamy oil high up on the oil dipstick. I just couldn't believe the coincidence that the head gasket went right after I changed the coolant and so initially thought it was just air in the system. -
I'll try to keep it short. I live on a private narrow lane. My car is parked on the lane and is usually fine. Neighbors constantly have bible study groups come and park in the lane. Twice now within a year my two Subarus have been backed in to by women (young teenage girls) leaving bible study group at night. Last time it was my 2006 Outback. Tonight it was my 1992 Loyale with 99,000 miles. I am very sad and frustrated. They will pay for repairs but I don't know that I can get it anything close to it's original splendor. Any advice or shared knowledge is appreciated. Thanks First picture is a Loyale (before) picture. Car is in driveway. At time of impact it was parked in front of my house in the lane you see. (Click to enlarge) These pictures were taken tonight after impact.

92 Loyale 4wd Wagon Low Compression
squatty replied to fishminer2000's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If you have the time to wait, I would pass on that one. There are so many older Subarus on Craigslist in the PDX area to choose from. Also try Salem and Eugene Craigslist. -
Got a "35" code: Purge Canister...
squatty replied to yzerman19's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I had the same code and the CEL. I just got one from a junkyard for $15. I'll be putting it in soon and hope this takes care of the CEL... -
My '92 Loyale 4 wd has 185/70/13 tires on it's 13" 4 bolt rims. Looking through Craigslist I see tons of 185/70/14 and other such 14" winter tires and rims. Just wondering if there are 14" subaru rims with the 4 bolt setup or if I'm better off staying with the 13" rims.
