  5. Also probably 1600cc engine too. Very fun to watch!

  7. Anyone going to the Olympus Rally this year? Spectating, or participating? I'll be there doing some video work.
  8. Man snow rally cross would be so much fun!! I wish we had more of a chance to do that out here...
  9. I love it! and I second the need for a build thread with lots of pics!!
  10. man that looks fun! Did you guys have the place to yourselves?
  11. I'm going to have to pass. I have to fix my power steering before I can take it out wheeling. Keep me posted on future Sand Lake runs because I really want to get out there with you guys. Have fun!
  12. I was just thinking that it would be good to shoot some video of Soobies in the sand!
  13. Looks like a ton of fun! What day are you guys thinkin about going back down there?
  14. take some good pics for us:banana: I seriously want to get out there sometime with you guys, let me know when you plan to wheel Sand Lake again!
  15. I would be in for a next time with a bit more advanced notice, have to work Sunday. Have fun guys!
  16. I don't know but with all of the white smoke sounds like he is burning coolant, so a leaking headgasket? That would explain the loss of power and trouble starting. How is your coolant level? are you a bit low from time to time?
  17. This is my driveway with 14" of snow taken 12.21.08 I love having my dual range Hi/Low 4WD tranny in my soobie. That combined with studded snow tires I've been able to get around just fine.
  18. Nipper is right, clean, clean, PCV valve, clean... repeat, also... ...if you still are feeling like you want to get rid of the blowby sludging back into your intake you could make or purchase a catch can. This is the set up I have in my '92 Loyale: I plumbed this in and it will catch all of the blowby, hold the oil, but let the combustible gasses continue on into the intake. Works like a charm and easy to drain/maintain. Even passed DEQ with flying colors.
  19. I only have metric sets since this is a Japanese car. But the 22mm fits like a glove on there. Thanks for the LONG pipe idea, I actually used an old broom handle. It finally moved! More leverage was what it needed. Thanks all for the tips. Now I can get this thing done and just in time, There is all ready 3" of snow on the ground when I woke up this morning!
  20. I've been trying to take off the crank pulley on my '92 Loyale so I can replace the timing belts. I took off the starter and had a pry bar stuck on the flywheel teeth to keep the crank from turning. Also using a t-handle with the 22mm socket on the crank pulley nut. Is the nut that holds on the pulley reverse thread instead of righty tighty? I can;t get the dang thing to budge! :Flame:Any suggestions?? Tips?? I need that pulley off so I can get the last timing belt cover off to put on the belts. I wanted to get these timing belts on so I can play in the snow this weekend!!!
  21. Welcome! The best thing to do first is figure out what you want to do and where you want to go with your GL. There are big differences between an off road rig from a rally rig. Off road, beefy bumpers are nice to push, pull, and tow from. But if you want it to perform like an "amateur rally car" you might not want heavy bumpers. A good basic roll cage would serve you more purpose, keep you safer, a place to anchor harness, and stiffen up that chassis for better handling. Your 88GL all ready has a factory "Cold Air Intake". It pulls from the passenger side wheel well. You can remove the snorkel/silencer from the back side of the air filter box in the fender. May sound a bit more throaty but won't give you too much of a gain, maybe a little. You could also put on a turbo muffler, less restricting. With an EA82 engine there is not much you can do to squeeze any more horse power out of it. Guys here have gone with a Webber Carb set up instead of fuel injection. But if you are all ready SPFI you might as well keep it. Really if you want to see any gains you can cut weight on your car. Get rid of the back seat, all interior cushy crap, head liner, carpet, etc..., get rid of stereo, speakers(those magnets are heavy), etc... Then if you are still feeling a little slow swap in an EJ22 engine. I really love my EA82 wagon for wheelin especially with the Hi/Low tranny in it makes for a great off roader. And I too want to build up a fun Rally Cross car in the future. But I think the best way, if you are serious about getting into a rally set up and on a budget, would be to find an old GC impreza that is AWD and 5SPD from '93-'01(what ever the budget allows) and use that as your competition platform. You can find a decent one on craigslist for around $1500. This is what I have found from asking around from rally competitors and the route I am thinking of going. Also I think that Rally America has lifted the requirements for a starter competitor to allow for an AWD Impreza as long as its a NA 1.8L engine, could be wrong though... any one else know for sure? Hope this helps, feel free to ask around and search. Good wealth of info here!
  22. In the picture you can see that I have kept the stock breather lines coming off of both heads. And at the "T" junction where they would normally go into the intake I ran a line to the catch can then out of the catch can back into the intake. The one I have can be purchased from these guys: http://www.perrinperformance.com/products/show/56 or AVO makes one here: http://yhst-49187380673845.stores.yahoo.net/avobrtakit.html hope this helps. Its a good thing to have and it will still pass DEQ, (emissions test we have to pass to register our rigs here in Oregon). If you are handy you could make one yourself. Just shop around, anything with and input, output, and drain will work. The Perrin one that I have has a sight tube so you can see when its getting full. Its easy to clean, well made and looks sharp. I just pop off the sight tube and let it drain into a cup and then reconnect it, good to go.
  23. here is what i have in my 92 Loyale keeps the solids (sludge blow by) from going back into your intake and allows the gasses to re combust. note the indicator on the sight tube in the first picture.
