  1. I know that Subaru went to electronic hill holders instead of mechanical a while back but don't know exactly when. My brother in laws '02 outback and '08 impreza both are electronic hill holder set ups. Sorry for the vague reply.
  2. Thanks for posting the link, I had no idea that you could self diagnose.
  3. Well, thanks for your help everyone. After testing all of the fuseable links for drains and coming up with nothing it turned out to be the alternator spazing out. I had my receipt and took it back to Schucks in exchange for another one. Everything works great now, i just need to go through and read which code its throwing and I should be good to go. Thanks again! dancing banana for everyone!
  4. sorry to hijack but does anyone in the Portland area have a OBD1 reader that I could use on my '92 Loyale?
  5. Man I hate electrical problems. Its so much easier to turn a wrench than to chase invisible electrical issues!!! I borrowed a charger and its charging now. So when I am pulling a fuse I am checking for a signal of current that shouldn't be there when the car is off correct? (sorry, I'm just new at electrical trouble shooting). Also I'm running out to grab a new alternator just in case. Thanks for the tips!
  6. Im guessing i would need to have some current running through the battery right? Need to get a charger...
  7. So I pulled to engine and changed out all of the gaskets, seals, belts, etc... last weekend. Everything went back in fine and it runs great except now the battery goes dead over night. I have a new optima battery and a 5 month old alternator in my '92 Loyale. I checked all of the connections on the battery and alternator and everything is connected. The alternator shouldn't have gone bad that fast. Any suggestions or ideas on what it could be? Thanks!
  8. This is all I have right now, I'll try to find some more pics.
  9. wow, i remember seeing you and your sooby at many a ORG rally cross events. Its a sad day when a sooby dies. But at least it made the sacrifice and kept everyone safe and unharmed. What's the next project?
  10. Nice! I have to work this weekend. But I really want to see your new hatch. The tranny swap was much needed. Next I have to figure out a front bumper.
  11. Looks great! Those hatches are so sweet! Hey we need to hook up and go wheeling some time.
  12. Old transmission out... ready for the dual range putting in the dual range shift linkage and interior all buttoned up. Everything went in easy and without a hitch. I just plugged up the vacuum lines from the old tranny, also I kept the Loyale shifter with the button. I dunno what to hook up to the switch. Any ideas? passenger ejector seat? air horn?... Did the road test and man what a difference in 4 low! Can't wait for some snow!
  13. Well, back at it again. Should go quicker today with my buddy helping out. Thanks for the tip Brian, it took some work to pop it off the hook.
  14. Pile of parts, drive shaft, skid plate, exhaust, etc... Everything disconnected from the transmission, driveline, front axels, etc... Now ready to drop the transmission, but I think its time to call it a night. Quick question, what are people doing with the two extra vacuum lines from the push button 4WD after they are disconnected? Don't really need them with the new transmission.
  15. Well today and tomorrow I am swapping my tranny for a 5SPD D/R. I've been wanting to do this for a while and now have the time. I have been putting up pics along the way here in the retrofitting forum : http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?p=769182#post769182
  16. Pulled off the skid plate and dropped the exhaust off of the block... Rear hanger bushings came off easy... But this one is stubborn, it won't budge...
  17. AND IT BEGINS! up on stands and front tires off. pulled the shifter and console out and moved the carpet out of the way. Next I'm disconnecting as much as I can on top of the tranny from under the hood. Then move the exhaust and drive line out of the way. More pics on the way!
  18. I pulled mine out of a '88 GL from the wrecking yard. Its in great shape and the donor car has 80,000 less miles on it than my Loyale.
  19. Well this afternoon I start the swap process. I'm disconnecting and hopefully pulling the 5SPD S/R out of the Loyale by tonight. Then tomorrow put in the 5SPD D/R into it and road test. I will post pics as things roll along. here's the new transmission waiting to go in the Loyale. I put in new seals, new shift bushings, clutch bearing, dust boot, and tranny mounts. Can't wait to have it in!!
  20. Hey Mike, good to see you and your rig the other day at Best Buy.
  21. Who all went from the USMB? post some pics if you got em. I parked at SS3 Fir Mountain South at .4 down stage from the start, up a little trail to get off of the course.
  22. Here's some coverage of the OTR I shot for Driving Sports: http://www.drivingsports.com/blog/rallysport.html scroll on down the page for more videos of the weekend.
