  1. They should just pop right off. I just pulled the inst. panel out of my '84 Hatch, those two where tight but they came off with a sharp tug. Hope this helps
  2. Ya I think you are right on the 4x4, I looked in the gallery page but there is a gap between '89 and '91 in the brochures. I'm taking a closer look at the car tomorrow, so I know for sure what it's got. So what's the opinion on these engines? I'm better aquainted with the EA81's.
  3. I'm looking at a '90 loyal L 4d sedan, 5spd, mpfl, with 130k on it. It starts and runs great but the engine ticks pretty bad. So my question is, what do I need to do to get this to stop? And secondly, where these cars all wheel drive in '90, or was it Front or 4x4 as an option? Thanks, Roc
  4. When you say shave the heads a few thousandths, how many do you mean? The airplane guys say .040, but they run a custom intake. Would .040 work with a stock intake or would .020 or less be better?
  5. what about the Aussi 15" wheels? any chance of being a US importer?
  6. Why do I love Subaru? Man, If you have to ask..... you'll just never understand!
  7. Dude, look on ebay. heres one in Ct. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6783&item=2456495609
  8. Yo Honda, ya thats me, grew up in Albany. whats up in stink town?
  9. I've been hooking the advance line to the manifold for a while and have had 0 problems. infact it seems I get better power over all. deffinetly more power at high rpm's do to the increased advance.
  10. Dude, I live at 5750 ft and go over 11,000 and 12,000 ft passes. I run the NGK's and there great! also strip off all the emissions on your intake and have a catless Y pipe made. also lean out your carb. all my cars run great with these mods.
  11. pulling the intake will make it easier but you can do it either way. the upper radiator hose should stay, but I think you have to pull the upper heater hose when removing the intake. Is this the write up I posted a few months ago? I may have writen radiator instead of heater, sorry!
  12. sorry, all the good stuff stays in the stable. The dual carbs I got off a '79 gen 1 import in a JY for $45 but there worth there weight in gold, well if you've got a strong EA71 that is! The wheels are the oval hole 14' pugs. But as I said all the good stuff I keep!
  13. Well, do to lack of time and money I've decided to decommission my '84 Std Hatch and focus on my Brat project. So it's good bye to my old friend "The Little General" the best dam 2 wheel drive I've ever known! Most of the parts will go to my other Soobs but I'll post a "up for grabs " list in the market place of whats left in the next week or two. I'm posting a eulogy at at my geocities page for any wanting to share my grief. http://www.geocities.com/wastelandsubaru/WastelandSubaru.html?1073456668589
  14. Tim where on the western slope are you? I'm in Rifle right on I 70 between Glenwood Springs and Junction.
  15. Myn '84 hatch Std " the little general" has 266k. all original drive train. I put a radiator in at 235k and a JY hitachi at 240k. The ugly little thing just won't die.
  16. I'm on the western slope of Colorado about 90 miles from the border. it's the same out here, most people are content to watch thier old Soobs rust. which is ok for me since I've been able to score a couple good cars from these nonbelivers! we should get a USMB mountain states Moab trip together this fall. Hells gate revenge is a kick a$$ 4x4 trail!
  17. I'm getting ready to put the D/R tranny from my '83 brat into my '84 STD hatch. Does anyone know if the driveline is the same size or will I have to pull one from the JY?
  18. In a pinch I've put the breaker bar on the axle nut and put the car in reverse and SLOWLY backed up until it broke free. never snapped a breaker bar or socket.
  19. I haven't gotten any farther than picking up some gas struts from the JY. after looking at things I chose the struts out of a '83 hatch and thought I'd mount them on the top of the suspention strut some where. But like I said I haven't done anything but drink beer and look at the engin compartment! keep me posted on progress and I 'll do the same if I get off my lasy duff over the holidays.
  20. Ya you can dump all that crap off your intake it makes the car run way better! I posted a walk thru for a EA82 but it's pretty much the same for the EA81's I'll try and find it and bump it up. Roc
  21. I've got the diagrams for '82-'83 from the headlights thru to the taillights. It's 6 GIF's about 12000 kb's. The only way I know to send them is as a file attachment in an e-mail. E-mail me at crazyoneeyedmonkeyman@yahoo.com and I'll send them to whoever wants them. unless theres an easier way that I don't know about, which I'm sure there is. Roc
  22. I'm running one on my "84 hatch. It's really easy to do. I thing I paid $10 for the kit from Carquest. Just drill out the rivets on the chock housing and mount the housing from the manual chock kit on the chock blade arm. Then drill a hole in the dash, route the housing cut it to size and set the pull. thats it Roc
