99 legacy wagon with 2.2 L, IDLE IS QUITE LOW, INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR LIGHTS FLICKER WHEN IDLING (no flicker when engine is off) ENGINE ALMOST STALLS OCCASIONALLY WHEN COME TO FAST STOP. Had Autozone check alternator while car running and no problem indicated. Then they checked the battery and said it was bad so replaced it for free (under warranty). Flickering and low idle are exactly the same with the new battery. Any thoughts?

have '99 2.2 liter legacy wagon with 170,000 mi. Have been using 10-30 oil. Recently noticed clicking valve sound for first few minutes of driving at beginning of day. Also a slight miss when first starting. Should I try an additive like Sea Foam or Marvel? Noticed on one blog that some 2.2 liters had problem with valve guides dropping to cause sticking.

As described earlier, I was getting wear on the inside of a front tire of 99 Legacy Wagon. The alignment guy said that the camber was one degree negative. Since the camber is not adjustable on this model he suggested using a Fastcam Bolt to adjust the camber. Its an aftermarket cam bolt which replaces the upper bolt on the strut connection. I have seen one on the web that adjusts the camber up to one degree which would be perfect for my wheel. Any thoughts on pros and cons of doing this myself?

The car does drive straight whenhands off, no shaking etc. On the older tires there was some, but less, cupping on other passenger front tire on the inner side. By the way, at this point the cupping/wear only extends in about 1/3 inch from the edge of tire. I'll try taking a picture of it when it gets a little brighter (and stops raining).

Had cupping on previous tire. Got new tires three months ago, with wheel alignment, they said camber was -1.0 deg on front drivers side and could not be adjusted. Now notice getting same cupping on inside edge of same tire. Bushings look fine. Any thoughts? I dont want them soaking me for all sorts repairs when I take it in for diagnosis.

Have a 99 subaru legacy wagon 2.2L with 140,000 miles. Just replaced tires and should probably get wheel alignment. Would it be smart to put on new tie rod ends before getting the alignment? They dont seem loose yet. Also got new rims from tiredirect. Only problem is the lug nuts are too long for the lug nut wrench in the car???

My tran has the filter on the outside so it must be the later one. The tran like the car has 130,000 mi. The problem started this winter. I changed the tran fluid and filter a few weeks ago and noticed no difference in the tran behavior. When I changed the fluid it wasnt discolored but it wasnt clear either.

99 subaru legacy wagon, 2.2Liter shift from 2nd to 3rd has not gotten better with warmer weather. It happens only on the first shifting after the car has been sitting for a few hours. As it shifts from 2nd to 3rd, it revs as if momentarily in neutral before 3rd catches. Is this just a band adjustment which I could do or more?

Two of the problems are now solved. Took it to mechanic on the power steering and he cleaned and oiled the universal joint in the steering linkage, that did it. He said I should probably replace it eventually though. On the catalytic/check engine light, I fussed around with the O2 sensor wires and connectors and two days later the check enginge light went off. thanks for all the tips!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
